1 N ow the gates of Jericho were all shut because of the people of Israel. No one went out and no one came in.

Ierihonul era închis şi fortificat din cauza israeliţilor. Nimeni nu ieşea din el şi nimeni nu intra în el.

2 T he Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and soldiers.

Domnul i-a zis lui Iosua: „Iată că dau în mâna ta Ierihonul cu regele şi cu luptătorii lui viteji.

3 W alk around the city. Have all the men of war go around the city once. Do this for six days.

Toţi oamenii înarmaţi să mărşăluiască în jurul cetăţii, înconjurând-o o singură dată. Aşa să faceţi timp de şase zile.

4 S even religious leaders will carry seven rams’ horns. They will walk in front of the special box of the agreement. Then on the seventh day you will walk around the city seven times. And the religious leaders will blow horns.

Şapte preoţi să meargă înaintea Chivotului, purtând fiecare câte o trâmbiţă din corn de berbec. În ziua a şaptea să înconjuraţi cetatea de şapte ori, iar preoţii să sune din trâmbiţe.

5 W hen you hear the long sound of the ram’s horn, all the people should call out with a loud noise. The wall of the city will fall to the ground. And then all the people will all go in the city.”

Când trâmbiţele din corn de berbec vor suna prelung şi le veţi auzi sunetul, tot poporul să scoată strigăte puternice. Atunci zidul cetăţii va cădea la pământ şi poporul va putea să atace, fiecare bărbat drept înainte!“

6 S o Joshua the son of Nun called the religious leaders and said to them, “Take up the special box of the agreement. And let seven religious leaders carry seven rams’ horns in front of the special box of the agreement.”

Iosua, fiul lui Nun, a chemat preoţii şi le-a spus: „Luaţi Chivotul Legământului şi şapte preoţi să poarte trâmbiţele înaintea Chivotului Domnului.“

7 T hen he said to the people, “Go and walk around the city. Let the men ready for battle go in front of the special box of the agreement.”

Apoi a spus poporului: „Porniţi şi înconjuraţi cetatea, iar oamenii înarmaţi să pornească înaintea Chivotului Domnului.“

8 W hen Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven religious leaders carrying the seven rams’ horns before the Lord walked on and blew the horns. And the special box of the agreement of the Lord followed them.

După ce Iosua a vorbit poporului, cei şapte preoţi care purtau trâmbiţele înaintea Domnului au trecut în faţă, sunând din trâmbiţe, iar Chivotul Legământului cu Domnul venea în urma lor.

9 T he men ready for battle went in front of the religious leaders who blew the horns. The other soldiers came behind the special box of the agreement while the horns sounded without stopping.

Oamenii înarmaţi au trecut în faţa preoţilor care sunau din trâmbiţe, iar ariergarda urma Chivotul. În timp ce mergeau, preoţii sunau din trâmbiţe.

10 B ut Joshua told the people, “Do not call out or let your voice be heard. Not a word should come from your mouth until the day I tell you to call out. Then you must call out.”

Iosua poruncise poporului următorul lucru: „Să nu strigaţi, să nu vi se audă vocile şi să nu vă iasă nici un cuvânt din gură, până în ziua când vă voi porunci să strigaţi! Aşadar doar atunci să strigaţi.

11 S o he had the special box of the agreement taken around the city once. Then they returned to the tents and stayed there through the night.

Chivotul Domnului a înconjurat o dată cetatea, după care au intrat în tabără şi au petrecut noaptea acolo.

12 J oshua got up early in the morning. And the religious leaders took up the special box of the agreement.

A doua zi Iosua s-a trezit în zori. Preoţii au luat Chivotul Domnului,

13 T he seven religious leaders carrying the seven rams’ horns in front of the special box of the agreement began walking and blew the horns without stopping. The men ready for battle went in front of them. The other soldiers came behind the special box of the agreement. And the horns sounded without stopping.

iar cei şapte preoţi care purtau trâmbiţele din corn de berbec înaintea Chivotului Domnului mergeau sunând din trâmbiţe. Oamenii înarmaţi mărşăluiau înaintea lor, iar ariergarda mărşăluia în urma Chivotului Domnului. În timp ce mergeau, se suna din trâmbiţe.

14 T he second day they walked around the city once. Then they returned to the tents. They did this for six days.

Au mai înconjurat o dată cetatea şi în cea de-a doua zi, după care s-au reîntors în tabără. La fel au procedat timp de şase zile.

15 O n the seventh day they got up early at the rising of the sun. They walked around the city in the same way, but on that day they walked around the city seven times.

În ziua a şaptea s-au trezit în zori şi au înconjurat cetatea ca în celelalte dăţi, dar de şapte ori. Aceasta a fost singura zi în care au înconjurat cetatea de şapte ori.

16 T he seventh time, when the religious leaders blew their horns, Joshua said to the people, “Call out! For the Lord has given you the city.

A şaptea oară, în timp ce preoţii sunau din trâmbiţe, Iosua a poruncit poporului: „Strigaţi, fiindcă Domnul v-a dat cetatea!

17 T he city and all that is in it must be destroyed because everything in it belongs to the Lord. Only Rahab, the woman who sells the use of her body, and all who are with her in the house will live, because she hid the men we sent.

Cetatea cu tot ce-i în ea să fie dată Domnului spre nimicire. Cruţaţi-o doar pe prostituata Rahab împreună cu întreaga ei familie, fiindcă a ascuns iscoadele trimise de noi.

18 B ut keep yourselves from the things that are to be destroyed. Or while you give them up to be destroyed, you might desire them. Then you would make the camp of Israel sinful also, and bring trouble on it.

Nu luaţi nimic din ceea ce trebuie nimicit, pentru ca să nu fiţi şi voi nimiciţi sau să puneţi tabăra lui Israel în pericol de nimicire şi să o tulburaţi.

19 B ut all the silver and gold and objects of brass and iron are holy to the Lord. They will go into the store-house of the Lord.”

Tot argintul şi tot aurul, precum şi toate obiectele din bronz şi din fier sunt închinate Domnului. Toate acestea vor intra în vistieria Lui.“

20 S o the people called out and the religious leaders blew the horns. When the people heard the sound of the horns, they called out even louder. And the wall fell to the ground. All the people went straight in and took the city.

În timp ce se suna din trâmbiţe, poporul a început să strige. Când s-a auzit sunetul trâmbiţelor şi strigătele puternice ale poporului, zidul s-a prăbuşit. Poporul a pătruns în cetate, fiecare om în dreptul său şi a capturat cetatea.

21 T hey destroyed everything in the city, both man and woman, young and old, cattle, sheep, and donkey, with the sword.

Au nimicit cu sabia tot ce se afla în cetate: bărbat şi femeie, tânăr şi bătrân, boi, oi şi măgari.

22 J oshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the house of the woman who sells the use of her body. Bring out the woman and all who are with her, as you promised her.”

Iosua le-a poruncit iscoadelor: „Intraţi în casa acelei prostituate şi scoateţi-o afară împreună cu tot ceea ce-i aparţine, după cum i-aţi jurat!“

23 S o the young men who had spied out the land went in, and brought out Rahab and her father and mother and brothers and all she had. They brought out all of her family and took them outside the tents of Israel.

Tinerele iscoade au intrat şi au scos-o afară pe Rahab, pe tatăl ei, pe mama ei şi pe fraţii ei împreună cu tot ceea ce-i aparţinea. Au scos afară întreaga familie şi i-au aşezat în afara taberei lui Israel.

24 T hen they burned the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only the silver and gold and objects of brass and iron they put into the store-house of the holy tent of the Lord.

Au ars cetatea împreună cu tot ce era în ea, nu însă şi argintul, aurul şi obiectele din bronz şi din fier, care au fost puse în vistieria Casei Domnului.

25 J oshua saved the life of Rahab, the woman who sold the use of her body, and those of her father’s house and all she had. She has lived among Israel to this day, because she hid the men Joshua had sent to spy out Jericho.

Iosua a cruţat viaţa prostituatei Rahab şi a familiei ei, lăsându-i totodată tot ceea ce-i aparţinea. Şi astfel, ea a locuit în poporul Israel până în ziua aceasta, deoarece a ascuns iscoadele trimise de Iosua la Ierihon.

26 T hen Joshua made them promise at that time, saying, “May the Lord destroy the man who gets up and builds this city of Jericho. With the loss of his first-born he will begin to build it. With the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

Cu acel prilej Iosua a rostit următorul blestem: „Blestemat să fie înaintea Domnului omul care va încerca să reconstruiască această cetate a Ierihonului. Cu preţul întâiului său născut să-i pună temelia şi cu preţul celui mai tânăr să-i aşeze porţile.“

27 S o the Lord was with Joshua. He was well known and respected in all the land.

Domnul a fost cu Iosua şi faima lui s-a răspândit în toată ţara.
