1 T he king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

Entonces el rey ordenó que todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén se reunieran con él,

2 T he king went up to Yahweh’s house, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, with the priests, the prophets, and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in Yahweh’s house.

y el rey subió al templo del Señor en compañía de todos los varones de Judá y de todos los habitantes de Jerusalén. Lo acompañaban los sacerdotes y profetas y todo el pueblo, desde el más chico hasta el más grande. Allí leyó, de modo que todos oyeran, todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en el templo del Señor.

3 T he king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book; and all the people agreed to the covenant.

Luego, el rey se puso de pie junto a la columna e hizo un pacto en presencia del Señor, de que siempre lo seguirían y cumplirían sus mandamientos, testimonios y estatutos, y que con todo el corazón y con toda el alma cumplirían las palabras del pacto escritas en ese libro. Y todo el pueblo confirmó el pacto. Reformas de Josías

4 T he king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out of Yahweh’s temple all the vessels that were made for Baal, for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky, and he burned them outside of Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.

Entonces el rey ordenó al sumo sacerdote Hilcías, a los sacerdotes de segundo orden, y a los guardianes de la puerta, que sacaran del templo del Señor todos los utensilios que habían sido hechos para Baal y para Asera y para todo el ejército de los cielos, y que los quemaran en el campo del Cedrón, fuera de Jerusalén, y que las cenizas fueran llevadas a Betel.

5 H e got rid of the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the army of the sky.

Quitó de sus puestos a los sacerdotes idólatras designados por los reyes de Judá para quemar incienso en los altares de los montes en las ciudades de Judá y en los alrededores de Jerusalén, y también a los que quemaban incienso a Baal, al sol y a la luna, y a los signos del zodíaco, y a todo el ejército de los cielos.

6 H e brought out the Asherah from Yahweh’s house, outside of Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast its dust on the graves of the common people.

Hizo también que la imagen de Asera la sacaran del templo del Señor y de Jerusalén, y que la llevaran al valle del Cedrón para que allí mismo la quemaran y la redujeran a cenizas; y el polvo lo echaron sobre los sepulcros de la gente común.

7 H e broke down the houses of the male shrine prostitutes that were in Yahweh’s house, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.

Mandó derribar también los aposentos en el templo del Señor donde se practicaba la prostitución idolátrica y donde las mujeres tejían mantos para Asera.

8 H e brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.

Josías ordenó que todos los sacerdotes de las ciudades de Judá fueran a Jerusalén, y desde Geba hasta Berseba profanó los altares de los montes, donde los sacerdotes quemaban incienso; además, derribó los altares que estaban a la entrada de la ciudad, del lado izquierdo de la puerta de Josué, el gobernador.

9 N evertheless the priests of the high places didn’t come up to the altar of Yahweh in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.

Los sacerdotes de los altares en los montes no podían acercarse al altar del Señor en Jerusalén, sino que comían panes sin levadura entre sus hermanos.

10 H e defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

Josías profanó también a Tofet, que está en el valle de Ben Jinón, para que ninguno ofreciera a su hijo o su hija en el fuego para rendir culto a Moloc.

11 H e took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of Yahweh’s house, by the room of Nathan Melech the officer, who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

Quitó también los caballos que estaban a la entrada del templo del Señor, junto a la cámara del eunuco Natán Mélec, el cual tenía a su cargo los ejidos. Esos caballos habían sido dedicados al sol por los reyes de Judá, pero Josías ordenó que los quemaran.

12 T he king broke down the altars that were on the roof of the upper room of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of Yahweh’s house, and beat them down from there, and cast their dust into the brook Kidron.

Además, el rey Josías derribó los altares que los reyes de Judá habían mandado hacer, y que estaban sobre la azotea de la sala de Ajaz, lo mismo que los altares que Manasés había mandado construir en los dos atrios del templo del Señor, y enseguida arrojó el polvo al arroyo del Cedrón.

13 T he king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon.

Profanó los altares de los montes delante de Jerusalén, a la derecha del monte de la destrucción, los cuales Salomón, rey de Israel, había mandado construir para Astoret y Quemos, los repugnantes ídolos de los sidonios y de los moabitas, y para Milcón, el repugnante ídolo de los amonitas.

14 H e broke in pieces the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and filled their places with men’s bones.

Hizo pedazos las estatuas e imágenes de Asera, y rellenó el lugar con huesos humanos.

15 M oreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.

Josías destruyó también el altar que estaba en Betel, y el altar del monte que había construido Jeroboán hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar a Israel; destruyó aquel altar y le prendió fuego hasta reducirlo a cenizas, y le prendió fuego también a la imagen de Asera.

16 A s Josiah turned himself, he spied the tombs that were there in the mountain; and he sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them on the altar, and defiled it, according to Yahweh’s word which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

Ya volvía Josías cuando vio los sepulcros que estaban allí en el monte. Entonces mandó sacar los huesos de los sepulcros, y para profanarlo ordenó que los quemaran sobre el altar. Así se cumplió la palabra del Señor, que el varón de Dios había anunciado en su profecía.

17 T hen he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

Después de eso, preguntó: «Aquí veo un monumento. ¿De quién es?» Los habitantes de la ciudad le respondieron: «Es el sepulcro del varón de Dios que vino de Judá, el cual predijo contra el altar de Betel todo lo que tú has hecho.»

18 H e said, “Let him be! Let no one move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

Entonces Josías dijo: «Que nadie lo toque ni mueva sus huesos.» Fue así como se preservaron sus huesos y los del profeta que había llegado de Samaria.

19 A ll the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke Yahweh to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.

Pero Josías ordenó que se quitaran todos los santuarios de los altares que había en los montes de Samaria, con los cuales los reyes de Israel habían provocado la ira del Señor, e hizo con ellos lo mismo que había hecho en Betel.

20 H e killed all the priests of the high places that were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.

Además, sobre esos altares sacrificó a todos los sacerdotes de los santuarios que había en esos montes, y quemó sobre ellos huesos humanos. Después de eso, volvió a Jerusalén. Josías celebra la pascua

21 T he king commanded all the people, saying, “Keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.”

El rey dio a todo el pueblo la siguiente orden: «Celebren la pascua del Señor su Dios, tal y como está escrito en el libro de este pacto.»

22 S urely there was not kept such a Passover from the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;

La pascua no se había celebrado desde los días en que los jueces gobernaban a Israel, ni tampoco en los días de los reyes de Israel y de Judá.

23 b ut in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, this Passover was kept to Yahweh in Jerusalem.

Pero se celebró en Jerusalén en el año dieciocho del reinado de Josías, en honor del Señor. La ira del Señor contra Judá

24 M oreover Josiah removed those who had familiar spirits, the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in Yahweh’s house.

En cumplimiento de las palabras de la ley, escritas en el libro que el sacerdote Hilcías había hallado en el templo del Señor, Josías acabó también con los encantadores, adivinos y terafines, y con todas las prácticas repugnantes que solían verse en Judá y en Jerusalén.

25 T here was no king like him before him, who turned to Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; and there was none like him who arose after him.

Ni antes ni después de Josías hubo otro rey que se volviera al Señor con todo su corazón, y con toda su alma y con todas sus fuerzas, y que cumpliera toda la ley de Moisés.

26 N otwithstanding, Yahweh didn’t turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger burned against Judah, because of all the provocation with which Manasseh had provoked him.

Sin embargo, era tal la ira del Señor contra Judá por todas las provocaciones de Manasés, que el Señor seguía muy enojado.

27 Y ahweh said, “I will also remove Judah out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’”

Por eso dijo: «También quitaré de mi presencia a Judá, como quité a Israel, y desecharé a Jerusalén, ciudad a la cual había escogido, y al templo del cual yo había dicho: “Allí estará mi nombre.”» Muerte de Josías

28 N ow the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Los demás hechos de Josías, y todas sus obras, se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá.

29 I n his days Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates; and king Josiah went against him; and Pharaoh Necoh killed him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

Por esos días, el faraón Necao, rey de Egipto, se dirigió al río Éufrates para luchar contra el rey de Asiria, y el rey Josías salió a enfrentarse con él en Meguido, pero en cuanto Necao lo vio, lo mató.

30 H is servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place.

Sus oficiales lo pusieron entonces en un carro, y llevaron su cadáver de Meguido a Jerusalén, para ponerlo en su sepulcro. La gente del país tomó entonces a Joacaz hijo de Josías, y lo ungieron y lo proclamaron rey en lugar de su padre. Reinado y derrocamiento de Joacaz

31 J ehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

Joacaz tenía veintitrés años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó tres meses en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Jamutal hija de Jeremías, y era de Libna.

32 H e did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, according to all that his fathers had done.

Pero Joacaz hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, tal y como lo habían hecho sus antepasados.

33 P haraoh Necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of one hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

Para que Joacaz no reinara en Jerusalén, el faraón Necao lo encarceló en Ribla, en la provincia de Jamat, y al país le impuso un tributo de tres mil trescientos kilos de plata y treinta y tres kilos de oro.

34 P haraoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim; but he took Jehoahaz away, and he came to Egypt and died there.

Además, el faraón Necao puso por rey a Eliaquín hijo de Josías en lugar de su padre, y le cambió el nombre por el de Joacín; luego tomó a Joacaz y lo llevó a Egipto, donde murió.

35 J ehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh. He exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, from everyone according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Necoh.

Joacín pagó al faraón el tributo de plata y oro, pero para cumplir con este tributo tuvo que imponer al pueblo un impuesto sobre el valor de la tierra que cada uno poseía, y ese dinero se lo dio al faraón Necao. Reinado de Joacín

36 J ehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

Joacín tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén once años. Su madre se llamaba Zebuda hija de Pedaías, y era de Ruma.

37 H e did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, according to all that his fathers had done.

Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, tal y como lo habían hecho sus antepasados.
