1 T he Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?”

Los zifeos fueron a visitar a Saúl en Gabaa, y le dijeron: «¿Sabes que David está escondido en el valle de Jaquilá, al oriente del desierto?»

2 T hen Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

Saúl se levantó y fue al desierto de Zif, en busca de David, y se llevó consigo a tres mil de sus mejores soldados.

3 S aul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

Acampó en el valle de Jaquilá, junto al camino, al oriente del desierto. David, que también estaba en el desierto, se dio cuenta de que Saúl volvía a perseguirlo,

4 D avid therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had certainly come.

así que envió espías para asegurarse de que, en efecto, Saúl lo estaba buscando.

5 T hen David arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David saw the place where Saul lay, with Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army. Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped around him.

Entonces se dispuso a ir adonde Saúl estaba acampando, y luego de examinar el lugar vio donde dormían Saúl y Abner hijo de Ner, que era el general de su ejército. Y Saúl dormía en el campamento, y el ejército acampaba a su derredor.

6 T hen David answered and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?” Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”

Entonces David les preguntó al hitita Ajimélec y a Abisay hijo de Seruyá, que era hermano de Joab: «¿Quién me acompaña al campamento de Saúl?» Y Abisay dijo: «Yo voy contigo».

7 S o David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay around him.

Y David y Abisay fueron de noche al campamento donde estaba Saúl, durmiendo en su tienda. Tenía su lanza clavada a la cabecera, y Abner y su ejército dormían alrededor de él.

8 T hen Abishai said to David, “God has delivered up your enemy into your hand today. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.”

Entonces Abisay le dijo a David: «El Señor ha puesto en tus manos a tu enemigo; si me permites, con su propia lanza puedo, de un solo golpe, dejarlo clavado en tierra.»

9 D avid said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against Yahweh’s anointed, and be guiltless?”

Pero David le respondió: «No lo mates. ¿Quién puede atentar contra el ungido del Señor y permanecer inocente?»

10 D avid said, “As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will strike him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish.

Dijo también: «Juro por el Señor que, si él no lo hiere, o no le llega el momento de su muerte, o no muere en batalla,

11 Y ahweh forbid that I should stretch out my hand against Yahweh’s anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let us go.”

él me impida atentar contra la vida de su ungido. Pero toma su lanza, y la vasija con agua, y vámonos.»

12 S o David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul’s head; and they went away: and no man saw it, or knew it, nor did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh was fallen on them.

Y tomando de la cabecera de Saúl la lanza y la vasija con agua, salieron del campamento. Nadie se dio cuenta de nada, pues el Señor había hecho que todos cayeran en un sueño profundo.

13 T hen David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afar off; a great space being between them;

Entonces David se fue al lado opuesto del monte, y se detuvo a cierta distancia, sobre la cumbre del monte,

14 a nd David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Don’t you answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered, “Who are you who cries to the king?”

y desde allí gritó muy fuerte, de modo que todo el ejército y Abner, su general, lo oyeran. Y dijo: «¡Abner, respóndeme!» Y Abner le respondió: «¿Quién te crees que eres, para gritarle al rey?»

15 D avid said to Abner, “Aren’t you a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord, the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord.

Y David le contestó: «¿No es verdad que eres todo un hombre, y que no hay otro como tú en todo Israel? Entonces, ¿por qué no has protegido la vida de tu rey? Un simple hombre ha entrado al campamento, y pudo haber matado a tu señor, el rey.

16 T his thing isn’t good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh’s anointed. Now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head.”

Este descuido de tu parte no está nada bien. Juro por el Señor que mereces la muerte, pues no has sabido proteger al rey, que es el ungido del Señor. Compruébalo por ti mismo. ¿Dónde están la lanza del rey, y la vasija con agua, que estaban en su cabecera?»

17 S aul knew David’s voice, and said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.”

Saúl reconoció la voz de David, y dijo: «¡Pero si ésa es tu voz, David, hijo mío!» Y David respondió: «Sí, señor y rey mío; ésta es mi voz.»

18 H e said, “Why does my lord pursue his servant? For what have I done? What evil is in my hand?

Y enseguida le preguntó: «¿Por qué persigue mi señor a este siervo suyo? ¿Qué es lo que he hecho? ¿Qué mal he cometido?

19 N ow therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out today that I shouldn’t cling to Yahweh’s inheritance, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods!’

Le ruego a mi señor que se digne escuchar mis palabras. Si el Señor lo ha puesto en mi contra, seguramente aceptará una ofrenda de mi parte; pero si es algo provocado por alguien, que el Señor mismo maldiga a quienes me han obligado a vivir fuera de la tierra que el Señor nos ha dado, y me hacen servir a dioses ajenos.

20 N ow therefore, don’t let my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Yahweh; for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”

Si voy a morir, que mi sangre no caiga lejos de la presencia del Señor. Su Majestad, el rey de Israel, anda en busca de una pulga, como quien persigue una perdiz por el monte.»

21 T hen Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes today. Behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.”

Entonces Saúl le dijo: «David, hijo mío: reconozco que he pecado. Regresa conmigo. Nunca más te haré daño, puesto que has tenido mi vida en alta estima. Por el contrario, yo he actuado como un necio; ¡he cometido un gran error!»

22 D avid answered, “Behold the spear, O king! Then let one of the young men come over and get it.

David le respondió: «Aquí está la lanza de Su Majestad. Que venga a recogerla alguno de sus sirvientes,

23 Y ahweh will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t stretch out my hand against Yahweh’s anointed.

y que el Señor recompense a cada uno de nosotros según su justicia y lealtad. Hoy el Señor puso tu vida en mis manos, pero yo no quise atentar contra el ungido del Señor.

24 B ehold, as your life was respected today in my eyes, so let my life be respected in Yahweh’s eyes, and let him deliver me out of all oppression.”

Que así como tu vida ha sido muy valiosa para mí, también la mía lo sea para el Señor, y que él me libre de todas mis aflicciones.»

25 T hen Saul said to David, “You are blessed, my son David. You will both do mightily, and will surely prevail.” So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.

Y Saúl le respondió: «¡Que el Señor te bendiga, hijo mío! No tengo la menor duda de que tú harás grandes cosas, y que tendrás mucho éxito.» Después de esto, David se fue por su camino y Saúl regresó a su tierra.
