1 ¶ Give ear to my prayer, O God, and do not hide thyself from my supplication.

2 A ttend unto me and hear me: I mourn in my complaint and make a noise

Dammi ascolto e rispondimi; mi lamento senza posa e gemo,

3 b ecause of the voice of the enemy because of the oppression of the wicked; for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.

per la voce del nemico, per l'oppressione dell'empio perché mi riversano addosso delle calamità e nella loro ira mi perseguitano.

4 M y heart is sore pained within me, and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.

Il mio cuore è angosciato dentro di me, e spaventi mortali mi sono caduti addosso.

5 F earfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me.

Paura e tremito mi hanno assalito e il terrore mi ha sopraffatto.

6 A nd I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then I would fly away and be at rest.

Perciò ho detto: «Oh, avessi io le ali come una colomba! Me ne volerei lontano per trovare riposo.

7 B ehold, then I would flee far away and dwell in the wilderness. Selah.

Ecco, me ne fuggirei lontano e dimorerei nel deserto. (Sela)

8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

Mi affretterei per trovare un riparo dal vento impetuoso e dalla tempesta».

9 ¶ Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

Distruggili, o Signore, confondi le loro lingue perché ho visto violenza e risse nella città.

10 D ay and night they go about it upon the walls thereof; iniquity also and sorrow are in the midst of it.

Giorno e notte si aggirano sulle sue mura; dentro di essa vi è malvagità e perversità.

11 W ickedness is in the midst thereof; deceit and guile depart not from her streets.

Nel suo mezzo vi è cupidigia; oppressione e inganno sono di casa nelle sue vie.

12 F or it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it, neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

Poiché non è stato un mio nemico che mi ha schernito, altrimenti l'avrei sopportato; non è stato uno che mi odiava a levarsi contro di me altrimenti mi sarei nascosto da lui.

13 B ut it was thou, who in my estimation was, my lord, and of my own family.

Ma sei stato tu, un uomo pari a me, mio compagno e mio intimo amico.

14 W e took sweet counsel together and walked unto the house of God in company.

Avevamo insieme dolci colloqui e andavamo in compagnia alla casa di DIO.

15 L et them be condemned unto death, and let them go down alive into Sheol for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.

Li sorprenda la morte, scendano vivi nello Sceol, perché nelle loro dimore e nel loro mezzo non vi è che malvagità.

16 ¶ As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me.

Quanto a me, io invocherò DIO, e l'Eterno mi salverà.

17 E vening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice.

La sera, la mattina e a mezzogiorno mi lamenterò e gemerò, ed egli udrà la mia voce.

18 H e has ransomed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, for there were many against me.

Egli riscatterà la mia vita e la metterà al sicuro dalla guerra mossa contro di me, perché sono in molti contro di me.

19 G od shall hear and bring them down, even he that abides from of old. Selah. Because they do not change, nor do they fear God.

DIO mi ascolterà e li umilierà, egli che siede sovrano da sempre, perché essi non cambiano e non temono DIO. (Sela)

20 H e has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him; he has defiled his covenant.

Egli ha steso le mani contro quelli che vivevano in pace con lui ha violato il suo patto.

21 T he words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

La sua bocca era piú dolce del burro, ma nel cuore aveva la guerra; le sue parole erano più morbide dell'olio, ma erano spade sguainate.

22 C ast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Getta sull'Eterno il tuo peso, ed egli ti sosterrà; egli non permetterà mai che il giusto vacilli.

23 B ut thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of the grave; bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in thee.

Ma tu, o DIO, farai scendere costoro nel pozzo della perdizione; gli uomini sanguinari e fraudolenti non giungeranno alla metà dei loro giorni; ma io confiderò in te.
