1 ¶ How amiable are thy habitations, O LORD of the hosts!

«Al maestro del coro. Sulla Ghittea. Salmo dei figli di kore.» Oh, quanto amabili sono le tue dimore, o Eterno degli eserciti!

2 M y soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing to the living God.

L'anima mia anela e si strugge per i cortili dell'Eterno; il mio cuore e la mia carne mandano grida di gioia al DIO vivente.

3 E ven the sparrow has found a house and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young upon thine altars, O LORD of the hosts, my King and my God.

Anche il passero trova una casa e la rondine un nido, dove posare i suoi piccoli presso i tuoi altari, o Eterno degli eserciti, mio Re e mio DIO.

4 H appy are those that dwell in thy house; they shall continually praise thee. Selah.

Beati coloro che abitano nella tua casa e ti lodano del continuo. (Sela)

5 H appy is the man whose strength is in thee, in whose heart are thy ways,

Beati quelli che ripongono la loro forza in te e che hanno in cuore le tue vie!

6 w ho passing through the valley of Baca, shall make it a well; the rain also shall fill the pools.

Quando attraversano la valle di Baka, la trasformano in luogo di sorgenti, e la prima pioggia la ricopre di benedizioni.

7 T hey go forth in a great multitude; and in order, they shall see God in Zion.

Essi vanno di valore in valore, e infine compaiono davanti a DIO in Sion.

8 ¶ O LORD God of the hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

9 B ehold, O God our shield and look upon the face of thine anointed,

Vedi, o DIO, nostro scudo, e riguarda la faccia del tuo unto.

10 f or a day in thy courts is better than a thousand outside of them. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Sí, un giorno nei tuoi cortili val piú che mille altrove; io preferisco stare sulla soglia della casa del mio DIO, che abitare nelle tende degli empi.

11 F or the LORD God is a sun and shield unto us; the LORD will give grace and glory; he will not withhold good from those that walk uprightly.

Perché l'Eterno DIO è sole e scudo; l'Eterno darà grazia e gloria; egli non rifiuterà alcun bene a quelli che camminano rettamente.

12 O LORD of the hosts, happy is the man that trusts in thee.

O Eterno degli eserciti, beato l'uomo che confida in te.
