1 ¶ Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign and reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hephzibah.

Manasse aveva dodici anni quando iniziò a regnare, e regnò cinquantacinque anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Heftsibah.

2 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the Gentiles, whom the LORD cast out before the sons of Israel.

Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno, secondo le abominazioni delle nazioni che l'Eterno aveva scacciato davanti ai figli d'Israele.

3 F or he built up again the high places which Hezekiah, his father, had destroyed, and he raised up altars for Baal and made a grove, as Ahab, king of Israel, had done; and he worshipped all the host of heaven and served those things.

4 L ikewise, he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, In Jerusalem I will put my name.

Inoltre eresse altari nella casa dell'Eterno, riguardo alla quale l'Eterno aveva detto: «In Gerusalemme porrò il mio nome».

5 A nd he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.

Eresse altari a tutto l'esercito del cielo nei due cortili della casa dell'Eterno.

6 A nd he made his son pass through the fire and observed times and used enchantments and dealt with spiritists and diviners and multiplied much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Fece anche passare per il fuoco a suo figlio, praticò la magia e la divinazione e consultò i medium e i maghi. Si diede completamente a fare ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno, provocandolo ad ira.

7 A nd he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD had said to David and to Solomon, his son, In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever;

Mise addirittura un'immagine scolpita di Ascerah, che aveva fatto, nel tempio, di cui l'Eterno aveva detto a Davide e a Salomone suo figlio: «In questo tempio e a Gerusalemme, che ho scelto fra tutte le tribú d'Israele, porrò il mio nome per sempre;

8 n either will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers, only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them and according to all the law that my slave Moses commanded them.

e non farò piú errare il piede d'Israele lontano dal paese che ho dato ai loro padri, purché essi abbiano cura di mettere in pratica tutto ciò che ho loro comandato e tutta la legge che il mio servo Mosè ha loro prescritto».

9 B ut they did not hearken, and Manasseh caused them to err and to do more evil than did the Gentiles whom the LORD destroyed before the sons of Israel.

Ma essi non ascoltarono, e Manasse li indusse a fare peggio delle nazioni che l'Eterno aveva distrutto davanti ai figli d'Israele.

10 ¶ And the LORD spoke by his slaves, the prophets, saying,

Allora l'Eterno parlò per mezzo dei suoi servi, i profeti, dicendo:

11 B ecause Manasseh, king of Judah, has done these abominations and has done more evil than all that the Amorites did, who were before him and has also made Judah sin with his idols;

«Poiché Manasse, re di Giuda, ha commesso queste abominazioni (ha fatto maggior male di tutto quello fatto dagli Amorei, che furono prima di lui, e mediante i suoi idoli ha pure fatto peccare Giuda),

12 t herefore, thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears shall tingle.

cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: "Ecco, io faccio venire su Gerusalemme e su Giuda una tale sciagura, che chiunque ne sentirà parlare ne avrà entrambe le orecchie rintronate.

13 A nd I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab; and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.

Stenderò su Gerusalemme la cordicella di misurazione di Samaria e il piombino della casa di Achab, e ripulirò Gerusalemme come si ripulisce un piatto che, una volta ripulito, lo si capovolge.

14 A nd I will forsake the remnant of my inheritance and deliver them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies

Cosí abbandonerò il residuo della mia eredità e li darò nelle mani dei loro nemici, ed essi diventeranno preda e bottino di tutti i loro nemici,

15 b ecause they have done that which was evil in my sight and have provoked me to anger since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.

perché hanno fatto ciò che è male ai miei occhi e mi hanno provocato ad ira dal giorno che i loro padri uscirono dall'Egitto fino ad oggi"».

16 M oreover, Manasseh shed innocent blood very much until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another besides his sin with which he made Judah sin so that they would do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.

Manasse versò pure moltissimo sangue innocente, fino a riempire Gerusalemme da una estremità all'altra, oltre al suo peccato di far peccare Giuda, facendo ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno.

17 N ow the rest of the acts of Manasseh and all that he did and his sin with which he sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Il resto delle gesta di Manasse, tutto ciò che fece e i peccati che commise, non è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?

18 A nd Manasseh slept with his fathers and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

Cosí Manasse si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nel giardino del suo palazzo, nel giardino di Uzza. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Amon.

19 ¶ Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.

Amon aveva ventidue anni quando iniziò a regnare, e regnò due anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Meshullemeth, figlia di Haruts di Jotbah.

20 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done.

Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno, come aveva fatto suo padre Manasse.

21 A nd he walked in all the way that his father walked in and served the idols that his father had served and worshipped them;

Seguí interamente la via seguita da suo padre, serví gli idoli che aveva servito suo padre e li adorò.

22 a nd he forsook the LORD God of his fathers and did not walk in the way of the LORD.

Abbandonò l'Eterno, il DIO dei suoi padri, e non camminò nella via dell'Eterno.

23 A nd the slaves of Amon conspired against him and slew the king in his own house.

Ora i servi di Amon ordirono una congiura contro di lui e uccisero il re nel suo palazzo.

24 T hen the people of the land slew all those that had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made Josiah, his son, king in his stead.

Ma il popolo del paese mise a morte tutti quelli che avevano congiurato contro il re Amon e, al suo posto, fece re suo figlio Giosia.

25 N ow the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Il resto delle gesta compiute da Amon non è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?

26 A nd he was buried in his sepulchre in the garden of Uzza, and Josiah, his son, reigned in his stead.

Egli fu sepolto nel suo sepolcro, nel giardino di Uzza. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Giosia.
