1 ¶ Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye one year to another; the lambs shall cease.

Guai ad Ariel, ad Ariel, città dove si accampò Davide! Aggiungete anno ad anno, le feste compiano il loro ciclo.

2 Y et I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel.

Poi getterò Ariel nell'angoscia; vi sarà lamento e gemito e sarà per me come un Ariel.

3 A nd I will camp against thee round about and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.

Io mi accamperò contro di te tutt'intorno, ti circonderò con un terrapieno e innalzerò contro di te bastioni.

4 A nd thou shalt be brought down and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be as that of a spiritist, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

Sarai abbassata, parlerai da terra e la tua parola uscirà sommessa dalla polvere; la tua voce salirà dal suolo come quella di un medium e la tua parola bisbiglierà dalla polvere.

5 M oreover the multitude of thy enemies that shall come from afar shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the strong ones shall be as chaff that passes away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.

La moltitudine dei tuoi nemici sarà come polvere minuta e la folla dei potenti come pula dispersa; e ciò avverrà all'improvviso, in un attimo.

6 T hou shalt be visited of the LORD of the hosts with thunders, with earthquakes, and with great noise, with whirlwind and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

Tu sarai visitata dall'Eterno degli eserciti con tuoni, terremoti e grande frastuono, con turbine, tempesta e fiamma di fuoco divorante.

7 A nd the multitude of all the Gentiles that shall fight against Ariel, even all that shall fight against her and their siege weapons, and those that shall distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.

La moltitudine di tutte le nazioni che combattono contro Ariel, di tutti quelli che combattono lei e la sua fortezza e la stringono intorno sarà come un sogno, come una visione notturna.

8 I t shall even be as he who dreams that he is hungry, and in his dream, he eats; but when he awakes, his soul is empty; and as he who dreams that he is thirsty, and, in his dream, he drinks; but he awakes, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul is still thirsty: so shall the multitude of all the Gentiles be, that shall fight against Mount Zion.

Avverrà come quando un affamato sogna di mangiare, ma quando si sveglia ha lo stomaco vuoto, o come quando un assetato sogna di bere, ma quando si sveglia è stanco e ha la gola riarsa; cosí avverrà della moltitudine di tutte le nazioni che combattono contro il monte Sion.

9 ¶ Become ye dumb, and make others dumb; become ye blind, and blind others: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

Soffermatevi e stupite. Abbandonatevi ai piaceri e poi guardatevi attorno sgomenti. Costoro sono ubriachi, ma non di vino; barcollano, ma non a motivo di bevande inebrianti.

10 F or the LORD has extended upon you the spirit of deep sleep and has closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, he has covered the seers with sleep.

L'Eterno infatti ha sparso su di voi uno spirito di torpore; ha chiuso i vostri occhi profeti, ha velato i vostri capi, i veggenti.

11 A nd every vision is unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which if it were delivered to one that knows how to read, saying, Read this, I pray thee: he shall say, I cannot; for it is sealed:

Ogni visione profetica è divenuta per voi come le parole di un libro sigillato che si dà a uno che sappia leggere, dicendo: «Ti prego, leggi questo!», ma egli risponde: «Non posso, perché è sigillato!».

12 A nd if the book were delivered to him that does not know how to read, saying, Read this, I pray thee: he shall say, I do not know how to read.

Oppure come un libro che si dà a uno che non sa leggere, dicendo: «Ti prego, leggi questo!», ma egli risponde: «Non so leggere».

13 T herefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people sacrifice unto me and honour me with their lips, but have removed their heart far from me, and their worship with which they honour me was taught by the commandment of men:

Perciò il Signore dice: «Poiché questo popolo Si avvicina a me solo con la bocca e mi onora con le labbra, mentre il suo cuore è lontano da me, e il loro timore di me è solo un comandamento insegnato da uomini,

14 T herefore, behold, I will again do a marvellous work among this people with a fearful miracle: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the prudence of their prudent men shall fade away.

perciò, ecco, io continuerò a fare meraviglie in mezzo a questo popolo, sí, meraviglie e prodigi; la sapienza dei suoi savi perirà e l'intelligenza dei suoi intelligenti scomparirà».

15 W oe unto those that hide themselves from the LORD, covering the counsel; and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? and who knows us?

Guai a quelli che vanno in luoghi profondi per nascondere i loro disegni dall'Eterno, che fanno le loro opere nelle tenebre e dicono: «Chi ci vede? Chi ci conosce?».

16 S urely your subversion shall be as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He did not make me? or shall the vessel say of him that made it, He did not understand?

Avete completamente capovolto le cose. E' forse il vasaio considerato pari all'argilla? Può l'opera dire a chi l'ha fatta: «Non mi ha fatto lui»?, o la cosa formata dire a chi l'ha formata: «Non ha intelligenza»?

17 ¶ Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into Carmel a fruitful field, and shall not Carmel be esteemed as a forest?

Ancora un brevissimo tempo e il Libano sarà mutato in un frutteto, e il frutteto sarà considerato come una foresta.

18 A nd in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see in the midst of darkness, and of gross darkness.

In quel giorno i sordi intenderanno le parole del libro e, liberati dall'oscurità e dalle tenebre, gli occhi dei ciechi vedranno.

19 T hen the humble shall grow in joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Gli umili potranno ancora gioire nell'Eterno e i poveri dell'umanità esulteranno nel Santo d'Israele.

20 F or the violent one shall be done away with, and the scorner shall be consumed, and all those that rose early unto iniquity shall be cut off:

Poiché il tiranno sarà scomparso, lo schernitore sarà distrutto, e saranno sterminati tutti quelli che tramano iniquità,

21 T hose that made men to sin in word; those that laid a snare for him that reproved in the gate, and turned that which is just into vanity.

che condannano un uomo per una parola, che tendono tranelli a chi giudica alla porta, pervertono il diritto del giusto per un nulla.

22 T herefore thus saith the LORD, who ransomed Abraham, unto the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale;

Perciò cosí dice alla casa di Giacobbe l'Eterno che riscattò Abrahamo: «D'ora in poi Giacobbe non dovrà piú vergognarsi e la sua faccia non impallidirà più;

23 f or he shall see his children, the work of my hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and shall sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel;

ma quando vedrà i suoi figli, l'opera delle mie mani nel suo mezzo, essi santificheranno il mio nome, santificheranno il Santo di Giacobbe e temeranno il DIO d'Israele.

24 a nd those that erred in spirit shall learn understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

I traviati di spirito giungeranno ad avere intendimento e i mormoratori, impareranno la sana dottrina».
