1 ¶ Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye one year to another; the lambs shall cease.

Ai de Ariel! Ariel, a cidade onde acampou Davi. Acrescentem um ano a outro e deixem seguir o seu ciclo de festas.

2 Y et I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel.

Mas eu sitiarei Ariel, que vai chorar e lamentar-se, e para mim será como uma fornalha de altar.

3 A nd I will camp against thee round about and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.

Acamparei ao seu redor; eu a cercarei de torres e instalarei contra você minhas obras de cerco.

4 A nd thou shalt be brought down and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be as that of a spiritist, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

Lançada ao chão, de lá você falará; do pó virão em murmúrio as suas palavras. Fantasmagórica, subirá sua voz da terra; um sussurro vindo do pó será sua voz.

5 M oreover the multitude of thy enemies that shall come from afar shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the strong ones shall be as chaff that passes away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.

Mas os seus muitos inimigos se tornarão como o pó fino, as hordas cruéis, como palha levada pelo vento. Repentinamente, num instante,

6 T hou shalt be visited of the LORD of the hosts with thunders, with earthquakes, and with great noise, with whirlwind and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

o Senhor dos Exércitos virá com trovões e terremoto e estrondoso ruído, com tempestade e furacão e chamas de um fogo devorador.

7 A nd the multitude of all the Gentiles that shall fight against Ariel, even all that shall fight against her and their siege weapons, and those that shall distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.

Então as hordas de todas as nações que lutam contra Ariel, que investem contra ele e contra a sua fortaleza e a sitiam, serão como acontece num sonho, numa visão noturna,

8 I t shall even be as he who dreams that he is hungry, and in his dream, he eats; but when he awakes, his soul is empty; and as he who dreams that he is thirsty, and, in his dream, he drinks; but he awakes, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul is still thirsty: so shall the multitude of all the Gentiles be, that shall fight against Mount Zion.

como quando um homem faminto sonha que está comendo, mas acorda e sua fome continua; como quando um homem sedento sonha que está bebendo, mas acorda enfraquecido, sem ter saciado a sede. Assim será com as hordas de todas as nações que lutam contra o monte Sião.

9 ¶ Become ye dumb, and make others dumb; become ye blind, and blind others: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

Pasmem e fiquem atônitos! Ceguem-se a si mesmos e continuem cegos! Estão bêbados, porém, não de vinho, cambaleiam, mas não pela bebida fermentada.

10 F or the LORD has extended upon you the spirit of deep sleep and has closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, he has covered the seers with sleep.

O Senhor trouxe sobre vocês um sono profundo: fechou os olhos de vocês, que são os profetas; cobriu a cabeça de vocês, que são os videntes.

11 A nd every vision is unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which if it were delivered to one that knows how to read, saying, Read this, I pray thee: he shall say, I cannot; for it is sealed:

Para vocês toda esta visão não passa de palavras seladas num livro. E se vocês derem o livro a alguém que saiba ler e lhe disserem: “Leia, por favor”, ele responderá: “Não posso; está lacrado”.

12 A nd if the book were delivered to him that does not know how to read, saying, Read this, I pray thee: he shall say, I do not know how to read.

Ou, se vocês derem o livro a alguém que não saiba ler e lhe disserem: “Leia, por favor”, ele responderá: “Não sei ler”.

13 T herefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people sacrifice unto me and honour me with their lips, but have removed their heart far from me, and their worship with which they honour me was taught by the commandment of men:

O Senhor diz: “Esse povo se aproxima de mim com a boca e me honra com os lábios, mas o seu coração está longe de mim. A adoração que me prestam é feita só de regras ensinadas por homens.

14 T herefore, behold, I will again do a marvellous work among this people with a fearful miracle: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the prudence of their prudent men shall fade away.

Por isso uma vez mais deixarei atônito esse povo com maravilha e mais maravilha; a sabedoria dos sábios perecerá, a inteligência dos inteligentes se desvanecerá”.

15 W oe unto those that hide themselves from the LORD, covering the counsel; and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? and who knows us?

Ai daqueles que descem às profundezas para esconder seus planos do Senhor, que agem nas trevas e pensam: “Quem é que nos vê? Quem ficará sabendo?”

16 S urely your subversion shall be as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He did not make me? or shall the vessel say of him that made it, He did not understand?

Vocês viram as coisas pelo avesso! Como se fosse possível imaginar que o oleiro é igual ao barro! Acaso o objeto formado pode dizer àquele que o formou: “Ele não me fez”? E o vaso poderá dizer do oleiro: “Ele nada sabe”?

17 ¶ Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into Carmel a fruitful field, and shall not Carmel be esteemed as a forest?

Acaso o Líbano não será logo transformado em campo fértil, e não se pensará que o campo fértil é uma floresta?

18 A nd in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see in the midst of darkness, and of gross darkness.

Naquele dia os surdos ouvirão as palavras do livro, e, não mais em trevas e escuridão, os olhos dos cegos tornarão a ver.

19 T hen the humble shall grow in joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Mais uma vez os humildes se alegrarão no Senhor, e os necessitados exultarão no Santo de Israel.

20 F or the violent one shall be done away with, and the scorner shall be consumed, and all those that rose early unto iniquity shall be cut off:

Será o fim do cruel, o zombador desaparecerá e todos os de olhos inclinados para o mal serão eliminados,

21 T hose that made men to sin in word; those that laid a snare for him that reproved in the gate, and turned that which is just into vanity.

os quais com uma palavra tornam réu o inocente, no tribunal trapaceiam contra o defensor e com testemunho falso impedem que se faça justiça ao inocente.

22 T herefore thus saith the LORD, who ransomed Abraham, unto the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale;

Por isso o Senhor, que redimiu Abraão, diz à descendência de Jacó: “Jacó não será mais humilhado; e o seu rosto não tornará a empalidecer.

23 f or he shall see his children, the work of my hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and shall sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel;

Quando ele vir em seu meio os seus filhos, a obra de minhas mãos, proclamará o meu santo nome; reconhecerá a santidade do Santo de Jacó,

24 a nd those that erred in spirit shall learn understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

e no temor do Deus de Israel permanecerá. Os desorientados de espírito obterão entendimento; e os queixosos vão aceitar instrução”.
