1 ¶ And he spoke a parable unto them to this end, that it behooves us always to pray and not faint,

Então Jesus contou aos seus discípulos uma parábola, para mostrar-lhes que eles deviam orar sempre e nunca desanimar.

2 s aying, There was in a city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man;

Ele disse: “Em certa cidade havia um juiz que não temia a Deus nem se importava com os homens.

3 a nd there was a widow in that city, and she came unto him, saying, Defend me from my adversary.

E havia naquela cidade uma viúva que se dirigia continuamente a ele, suplicando-lhe: ‘Faze-me justiça contra o meu adversário’.

4 A nd he would not for a while, but afterward he said within himself, Though I do not fear God, nor regard man,

“Por algum tempo ele se recusou. Mas finalmente disse a si mesmo: ‘Embora eu não tema a Deus e nem me importe com os homens,

5 y et because this widow troubles me, I will do her justice, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

esta viúva está me aborrecendo; vou fazer-lhe justiça para que ela não venha mais me importunar’”.

6 A nd the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says.

E o Senhor continuou: “Ouçam o que diz o juiz injusto.

7 A nd shall not God avenge his own elect who cry day and night unto him though he bears long regarding them?

Acaso Deus não fará justiça aos seus escolhidos, que clamam a ele dia e noite? Continuará fazendo-os esperar?

8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?

Eu lhes digo: Ele lhes fará justiça, e depressa. Contudo, quando o Filho do homem vier, encontrará fé na terra?” A Parábola do Fariseu e do Publicano

9 ¶ And he spoke this parable unto some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others:

A alguns que confiavam em sua própria justiça e desprezavam os outros, Jesus contou esta parábola:

10 T wo men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

“Dois homens subiram ao templo para orar; um era fariseu e o outro, publicano.

11 T he Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

O fariseu, em pé, orava no íntimo: ‘Deus, eu te agradeço porque não sou como os outros homens: ladrões, corruptos, adúlteros; nem mesmo como este publicano.

12 I fast two meals every sabbath; I give tithes of all that I possess.

Jejuo duas vezes por semana e dou o dízimo de tudo quanto ganho’.

13 A nd the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, reconcile me, a sinner.

“Mas o publicano ficou à distância. Ele nem ousava olhar para o céu, mas batendo no peito, dizia: ‘Deus, tem misericórdia de mim, que sou pecador’.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

“Eu lhes digo que este homem, e não o outro, foi para casa justificado diante de Deus. Pois quem se exalta será humilhado, e quem se humilha será exaltado”. Jesus e as Crianças

15 ¶ And they brought unto him also infants that he would touch them; but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

O povo também estava trazendo criancinhas para que Jesus tocasse nelas. Ao verem isso, os discípulos repreendiam aqueles que as tinham trazido.

16 B ut Jesus called them unto him and said, Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.

Mas Jesus chamou a si as crianças e disse: “Deixem vir a mim as crianças e não as impeçam; pois o Reino de Deus pertence aos que são semelhantes a elas.

17 V erily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

Digo-lhes a verdade: Quem não receber o Reino de Deus como uma criança, nunca entrará nele”. Jesus e o Homem Rico

18 ¶ And a certain prince asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Certo homem importante lhe perguntou: “Bom Mestre, que farei para herdar a vida eterna?”

19 A nd Jesus said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? No one is good except one, that is, God.

“Por que você me chama bom?”, respondeu Jesus. “Não há ninguém que seja bom, a não ser somente Deus.

20 T hou knowest the commandments, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

Você conhece os mandamentos: ‘Não adulterarás, não matarás, não furtarás, não darás falso testemunho, honra teu pai e tua mãe’.”

21 A nd he said, All these things I have kept from my youth up.

“A tudo isso tenho obedecido desde a adolescência”, disse ele.

22 N ow when Jesus heard this, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.

Ao ouvir isso, disse-lhe Jesus: “Falta-lhe ainda uma coisa. Venda tudo o que você possui e dê o dinheiro aos pobres, e você terá um tesouro nos céus. Depois venha e siga-me”.

23 A nd when he heard this, he was very sorrowful, for he was very rich.

Ouvindo isso, ele ficou triste, porque era muito rico.

24 A nd when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How difficult it is for those that have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

Vendo-o entristecido, Jesus disse: “Como é difícil aos ricos entrar no Reino de Deus!

25 F or it is easier to put a cable through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

De fato, é mais fácil passar um camelo pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrar no Reino de Deus”.

26 A nd those that heard it said, Who then can be saved?

Os que ouviram isso perguntaram: “Então, quem pode ser salvo?”

27 A nd he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Jesus respondeu: “O que é impossível para os homens é possível para Deus”.

28 T hen Peter said, Behold, we have left all and followed thee.

Pedro lhe disse: “Nós deixamos tudo o que tínhamos para seguir-te!”

29 A nd he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no one that has left house or parents or brethren or wife or children for the kingdom of God’s sake

Respondeu Jesus: “Digo-lhes a verdade: Ninguém que tenha deixado casa, mulher, irmãos, pai ou filhos por causa do Reino de Deus

30 w ho shall not receive manifold more in this present time and in the age to come, eternal life.

deixará de receber, na presente era, muitas vezes mais, e, na era futura, a vida eterna”. Jesus Prediz Novamente sua Morte e Ressurreição

31 ¶ Then he took unto him the twelve and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

Jesus chamou à parte os Doze e lhes disse: “Estamos subindo para Jerusalém, e tudo o que está escrito pelos profetas acerca do Filho do homem se cumprirá.

32 F or he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles and shall be mocked and spitefully treated and spitted on;

Ele será entregue aos gentios que zombarão dele, o insultarão, cuspirão nele, o açoitarão e o matarão.

33 a nd they shall scourge him and put him to death, but the third day he shall rise again.

No terceiro dia ele ressuscitará”.

34 A nd they understood none of these things, and this word was hid from them, and they did not know what was said.

Os discípulos não entenderam nada dessas coisas. O significado dessas palavras lhes estava oculto, e eles não sabiam do que ele estava falando. Um Mendigo Cego Recupera a Visão

35 ¶ And it came to pass that as he came near unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat beside the way begging,

Ao aproximar-se Jesus de Jericó, um homem cego estava sentado à beira do caminho, pedindo esmola.

36 a nd hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what this might be.

Quando ouviu a multidão passando, ele perguntou o que estava acontecendo.

37 A nd they told him that Jesus of Nazareth passes by.

Disseram-lhe: “Jesus de Nazaré está passando”.

38 A nd he cried out, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

Então ele se pôs a gritar: “Jesus, filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de mim!”

39 A nd those who went before rebuked him that he should remain silent; but he cried out so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

Os que iam adiante o repreendiam para que ficasse quieto, mas ele gritava ainda mais: “Filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de mim!”

40 A nd Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought unto him, and when he was come near, he asked him,

Jesus parou e ordenou que o homem lhe fosse trazido. Quando ele chegou perto, Jesus perguntou-lhe:

41 s aying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may see.

“O que você quer que eu lhe faça?” “Senhor, eu quero ver”, respondeu ele.

42 A nd Jesus said unto him, See; thy faith has saved thee.

Jesus lhe disse: “Recupere a visão! A sua fé o curou ”.

43 A nd immediately he saw and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

Imediatamente ele recuperou a visão, e seguia Jesus glorificando a Deus. Quando todo o povo viu isso, deu louvores a Deus.
