1 ¶ Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are pure in heart.

Certamente Deus é bom para Israel, para os puros de coração.

2 B ut as for me, my feet almost departed from the way; my steps had almost slipped.

Quanto a mim, os meus pés quase tropeçaram; por pouco não escorreguei.

3 F or I became angry against the foolish when I saw the peace of the wicked.

Pois tive inveja dos arrogantes quando vi a prosperidade desses ímpios.

4 B ecause there is no restraint that would bring about their death, but their strength is firm.

Eles não passam por sofrimento e têm o corpo saudável e forte.

5 T hey are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Estão livres dos fardos de todos; não são atingidos por doenças como os outros homens.

6 T herefore they are crowned with pride; they cover themselves with violence as a garment.

Por isso o orgulho lhes serve de colar, e eles se vestem de violência.

7 T heir eyes stand out with fatness; they easily obtain the desires of their heart.

Do seu íntimo brota a maldade; da sua mente transbordam maquinações.

8 T hey are lawless and speak wickedly of doing violence; they speak loftily.

Eles zombam e falam com más intenções; em sua arrogância ameaçam com opressão.

9 T hey set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue walks through the earth.

Com a boca arrogam a si os céus, e com a língua se apossam da terra.

10 T herefore his people shall return here; and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

Por isso o seu povo se volta para eles e bebe suas palavras até saciar-se.

11 A nd they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Eles dizem: “Como saberá Deus? Terá conhecimento o Altíssimo?”

12 B ehold, these ungodly men, without being troubled by the world obtain riches.

Assim são os ímpios; sempre despreocupados, aumentam suas riquezas.

13 V erily, in vain have I cleansed my heart and washed my hands in innocency

Certamente foi-me inútil manter puro o coração e lavar as mãos na inocência,

14 a nd been plagued all day long and chastened every morning:

pois o dia inteiro sou afligido, e todas as manhãs sou castigado.

15 ¶ If I should say, I will speak as they do; behold, I should deny the generation of thy sons.

Se eu tivesse dito: Falarei como eles, teria traído os teus filhos.

16 I shall meditate that I might understand this; it is very hard for me to see.

Quando tentei entender tudo isso, achei muito difícil para mim,

17 W hen I come into the sanctuary of God, then I shall understand their end.

até que entrei no santuário de Deus, e então compreendi o destino dos ímpios.

18 S urely thou didst set them in slippery places; in desolation thou shalt cause them to fall.

Certamente os pões em terreno escorregadio e os fazes cair na ruína.

19 H ow they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors.

Como são destruídos de repente, completamente tomados de pavor!

20 A s the dream of one who awakes; so, O Lord, when thou shalt rise up, thou shalt despise their appearances.

São como um sonho que se vai quando acordamos; quando te levantares, Senhor, tu os farás desaparecer.

21 ¶ Truly my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my kidneys.

Quando o meu coração estava amargurado e no íntimo eu sentia inveja,

22 B ut I was ignorant and did not understand; I was as a beast before thee.

agi como insensato e ignorante; minha atitude para contigo era a de um animal irracional.

23 N evertheless I was continually with thee; thou hast apprehended me by my right hand.

Contudo, sempre estou contigo; tomas a minha mão direita e me susténs.

24 T hou hast guided me with thy counsel, and afterward thou shalt receive me unto glory.

Tu me diriges com o teu conselho, e depois me receberás com honras.

25 W hom have I in heaven but thee? And apart from thee there is nothing upon the earth that I desire.

A quem tenho nos céus senão a ti? E na terra, nada mais desejo além de estar junto a ti.

26 M y flesh and my heart fail; the strength of my heart is that God is my portion for ever.

O meu corpo e o meu coração poderão fraquejar, mas Deus é a força do meu coração e a minha herança para sempre.

27 F or, behold, those that stray from thee shall perish; thou dost cut off all those that go a whoring from thee.

Os que te abandonam sem dúvida perecerão; tu destróis todos os infiéis.

28 B ut as for me, to draw near to God is good; I have put my hope in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

Mas, para mim, bom é estar perto de Deus; fiz do Soberano Senhor o meu refúgio; proclamarei todos os teus feitos.
