1 ¶ The burden of the desert of the sea. As the whirlwinds which pass through the wilderness in the land of the south, so they come from the terrible land.

Advertência contra o deserto junto ao mar: Como um vendaval em redemoinhos que varre todo o Neguebe, um invasor vem do deserto, de uma terra pavorosa.

2 A grievous vision is shown unto me. For one who is treacherous, another who deals treacherously, and for one destroyer, another destroyer. Rise up, Elam; besiege Media; all the sighing thereof I have made to cease.

Eu tive uma visão terrível: O traidor fora traído, o saqueador, saqueado. Elão, vá à luta! Média, feche o cerco! Porque ponho fim a todo gemido que ela provocou.

3 T herefore my loins are filled with pain; pangs have taken hold upon me as the pangs of a woman that travails; I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

Diante disso fiquei tomado de angústia, tive dores como as de uma mulher em trabalho de parto; estou tão transtornado que não posso ouvir, tão atônito que não posso ver.

4 M y heart panted; the horror frightened me; the night of my pleasure he has turned into fear unto me.

O meu coração se estremece, o temor toma conta de mim; o anoitecer que eu tanto aguardava transformou-se em terror para mim.

5 P repare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink; arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

Eles põem as mesas, estendem a toalha, comem, bebem! Levantem-se, líderes, preparem os escudos!

6 F or thus has the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman who shall declare what he sees.

Assim me diz o Senhor: “Vá, coloque um vigia de prontidão para que anuncie tudo o que se aproximar.

7 A nd he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; then he looked with more diligence;

Quando ele vir carros com parelhas de cavalos, homens montados em jumentos ou em camelos, fique alerta, bem alerta”.

8 a nd he cried, A lion upon the watchman. My lord, I stand continually all the day and all night long upon my watchtower.

Então o vigia gritou: “Dia após dia, meu senhor, eu fico na torre das sentinelas; todas as noites permaneço em meu posto.

9 A nd, behold, this chariot of men comes with a couple of horsemen. Afterwards he spoke and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he has broken unto the ground.

Veja! Ali vem um homem num carro com uma parelha de cavalos, e ele diz: ‘Caiu! A Babilônia caiu! Todas as imagens dos seus deuses estão despedaçadas no chão!’”

10 O my harvest, and the people of my threshing floor, that which I have heard of the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared unto you.

Ah, meu povo malhado na eira! Eu lhes conto o que ouvi da parte do Senhor dos Exércitos, da parte do Deus de Israel. Profecia contra Edom

11 ¶ The burden of Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of this night? Watchman, what of this night?

Advertência contra Dumá: Gente de Seir me pergunta: “Guarda, quanto ainda falta para acabar a noite? Guarda, quanto falta para acabar a noite?”

12 T he watchman said, The morning comes and then the night; if ye will enquire, enquire ye; return, and come.

O guarda responde: “Logo chega o dia, mas a noite também vem. Se vocês quiserem perguntar de novo, voltem e perguntem”. Profecia contra a Arábia

13 ¶ The burden upon Arabia. In the forest ye shall pass the night in Arabia, O ye walkers of Dedanim.

Advertência contra a Arábia: Vocês, caravanas de dedanitas, que acampam nos bosques da Arábia,

14 G o ye out to meet them bringing water for the thirsty, O inhabitants of the land of Tema; succour those who are fleeing with your bread.

tragam água para os sedentos; vocês, que vivem em Temá, tragam comida para os fugitivos.

15 F or they flee from the presence of the sword, from the presence of the drawn sword, from the presence of the bent bow, from the presence of the grievousness of the battle.

Eles fogem da espada, da espada desembainhada, do arco preparado e da crueldade da batalha.

16 F or thus has the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall be undone:

Assim me diz o Senhor: “Dentro de um ano, e nem um dia mais, toda a pompa de Quedar chegará ao fim.

17 A nd the residue of the number of valiant archers, sons of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel has spoken it.

Poucos serão os sobreviventes dos flecheiros, dos guerreiros de Quedar”. O Senhor, o Deus de Israel, falou.
