1 ¶ If a man shall steal an ox or a sheep and kill it or sell it he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.

“Se alguém roubar um boi ou uma ovelha e abatê-lo ou vendê-lo, terá que restituir cinco bois pelo boi e quatro ovelhas pela ovelha.

2 I f a thief is found breaking into a house and is smitten so he dies, he that killed him shall not be guilty of his blood.

“Se o ladrão que for pego arrombando for ferido e morrer, quem o feriu não será culpado de homicídio,

3 I f the sun is risen upon him, he that killed him is guilty of his blood; the thief should make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

mas se isso acontecer depois do nascer do sol, será culpado de homicídio. “O ladrão terá que restituir o que roubou, mas, se não tiver nada, será vendido para pagar o roubo.

4 I f he is found with the theft in his hand, whether it be ox or ass or sheep, he shall restore double.

Se o que foi roubado for encontrado vivo em seu poder, seja boi, seja jumento, seja ovelha, ele deverá restituí-lo em dobro.

5 I f a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten and shall put in his beast and shall feed in another man’s field; of the best of his own field and of the best of his own vineyard shall he make restitution.

“Se alguém levar seu rebanho para pastar num campo ou numa vinha e soltá-lo de modo que venha a pastar no campo de outro homem, fará restituição com o melhor do seu campo ou da sua vinha.

6 W hen fires are lit and in burning the thorns burn also the stacks of sheaves or the standing grain, or the field is consumed; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

“Se um fogo se espalhar e alcançar os espinheiros, e queimar os feixes colhidos ou o trigo plantado ou até a lavoura toda, aquele que iniciou o incêndio restituirá o prejuízo.

7 ¶ When a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief is found, let him pay double.

“Se alguém entregar ao seu próximo prata ou bens para serem guardados e estes forem roubados da casa deste, o ladrão, se for encontrado, terá que restituí-los em dobro.

8 I f the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges to see whether he has put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods.

Mas se o ladrão não for encontrado, o dono da casa terá que comparecer perante os juízes para que se determine se ele não lançou mão dos bens do outro.

9 F or all manner of fraud, whether it be for an ox, for an ass, for a sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challenges to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.

Sempre que alguém se apossar de boi, jumento, ovelha, roupa ou qualquer outro bem perdido, mas alguém disser: ‘Isto me pertence’, as duas partes envolvidas levarão o caso aos juízes. Aquele a quem os juízes declararem culpado restituirá o dobro ao seu próximo.

10 I f a man delivers unto his neighbour an ass or an ox or a sheep or any beast to keep, and it dies or is hurt or driven away, no man seeing it,

“Se alguém der ao seu próximo o seu jumento, ou boi, ou ovelha ou qualquer outro animal para ser guardado, e o animal morrer, for ferido ou for levado, sem que ninguém o veja,

11 t hen shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he has not put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods, and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.

a questão entre eles será resolvida prestando-se um juramento diante do Senhor de que um não lançou mão da propriedade do outro. O dono terá que aceitar isso e nenhuma restituição será exigida.

12 A nd if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto its owner.

Mas se o animal tiver sido roubado do seu próximo, este terá que fazer restituição ao dono.

13 I f it is torn in pieces, then let him bring witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.

Se tiver sido despedaçado por um animal selvagem, ele trará como prova o que restou dele; e não terá que fazer restituição.

14 A nd if anyone borrows anything of his neighbour, and it is hurt or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make it good.

“Se alguém pedir emprestado ao seu próximo um animal, e este for ferido ou morrer na ausência do dono, terá que fazer restituição.

15 B ut if its owner is with it, he shall not make it good; if it was hired, it came for its hire.

Mas se o dono estiver presente, o que tomou emprestado não terá que restituí-lo. Se o animal tiver sido alugado, o preço do aluguel cobrirá a perda. Leis acerca das Responsabilidades Sociais

16 ¶ If a man should entice a virgin that is not betrothed and lie with her, he shall surely endow her and take her to be his wife.

“Se um homem seduzir uma virgem que ainda não tenha compromisso de casamento e deitar-se com ela, terá que pagar o preço do seu dote, e ela será sua mulher.

17 I f her father utterly refuses to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

Mas se o pai recusar-se a entregá-la, ainda assim o homem terá que pagar o equivalente ao dote das virgens.

18 T hou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

“Não deixem viver a feiticeira.

19 W hoever lies with a beast shall surely be put to death.

“Todo aquele que tiver relações sexuais com animal terá que ser executado.

20 H e that sacrifices unto any god, except unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

“Quem oferecer sacrifício a qualquer outro deus, e não unicamente ao Senhor, será destruído.

21 T hou shalt neither mistreat a stranger nor oppress him; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

“Não maltratem nem oprimam o estrangeiro, pois vocês foram estrangeiros no Egito.

22 Y e shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child.

“Não prejudiquem as viúvas nem os órfãos;

23 I f thou afflict them in any manner, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

porque se o fizerem, e eles clamarem a mim, eu certamente atenderei ao seu clamor.

24 a nd my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

Com grande ira matarei vocês à espada; suas mulheres ficarão viúvas e seus filhos, órfãos.

25 ¶ If thou should lend money to my people, to the poor who is with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.

“Se fizerem empréstimo a alguém do meu povo, a algum necessitado que viva entre vocês, não cobrem juros dele; não emprestem visando lucro.

26 I f thou at all take thy neighbour’s clothing as a pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him before the sun goes down;

Se tomarem como garantia o manto do seu próximo, devolvam-no até o pôr-do-sol,

27 f or only that is his covering, it is his clothing to cover his flesh, in which he must sleep; and it shall come to pass, when he cries unto me, that I will hear, for I am merciful.

porque o manto é a única coberta que ele possui para o corpo. Em que mais se deitaria? Quando ele clamar a mim, eu o ouvirei, pois sou misericordioso.

28 T hou shalt not revile the judges nor curse the prince of thy people.

“Não blasfemem contra Deus nem amaldiçoem uma autoridade do seu povo.

29 T hou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits and of thy liquors; the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

“Não retenham as ofertas de suas colheitas. “Consagrem-me o primeiro filho de vocês

30 L ikewise shalt thou do with thine oxen and with thy sheep; seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it to me.

e a primeira cria das vacas, das ovelhas e das cabras. Durante sete dias a cria ficará com a mãe, mas, no oitavo dia, entreguem-na a mim.

31 A nd ye shall be holy men unto me; neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.

“Vocês serão meu povo santo. Não comam a carne de nenhum animal despedaçado por feras no campo; joguem-na aos cães.
