1 ¶ O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee; I will praise thy name for thou hast done wonders, the counsels of old, the truth unchanging.

O Eterno, tu sei il mio DIO; io ti esalterò e celebrerò il tuo nome, perché hai fatto cose meravigliose, disegni concepiti molto tempo fa e adempiuti in fedeltà e verità.

2 T hat thou hast turned the city into a heap; the defenced city into a ruin: the palace of strangers to not be a city; it shall never be rebuilt.

Poiché hai ridotto la città a un mucchio di pietre, la città fortificata a un cumulo di rovine; la cittadella degli stranieri non è piú una città, non sarà mai piú ricostruita.

3 T herefore the strong people shall glorify thee; the city of the strong Gentiles shall fear thee.

Perciò il popolo forte ti glorifica, la città di nazioni potenti ti teme.

4 F or thou hast been strength to the poor, strength to the needy in his distress, refuge from the storm, shadow from the heat, for the force of the violent is as a storm against the wall.

perché tu sei stato una fortezza per il povero, una fortezza per il misero nella sua avversità, un rifugio contro la tempesta, un'ombra contro il caldo poiché il soffio dei tiranni è come una tempesta contro il muro.

5 A s the heat in a dry place, thou shalt bring down the pride of the strangers; even as with heat that burns beneath a cloud, thou shalt cause the offshoot of the stout ones to wither.

Tu ridurrai il tumulto degli stranieri come il calore in un luogo arido; come il calore nell'ombra di una nuvola, cosí il canto dei tiranni sarà fatto tacere.

6 ¶ And in this mountain the LORD of the hosts shall make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of purified wines, of fat things full of marrow, of purified liquids.

L'Eterno degli eserciti preparerà su questo monte a tutti i popoli un banchetto di cibi succulenti, un banchetto di vini vecchi, di cibi succulenti pieni di midollo, di vini vecchi e raffinati.

7 A nd he will undo in this mountain the mask of the covering with which all the peoples are covered and the veil that is extended over all the Gentiles.

Distruggerà su questo monte la coltre che copriva tutti i popoli, e la coperta stesa su tutte le nazioni.

8 H e will destroy death forever; and the Lord GOD shall wipe away every tear from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people he shall take away from off all the earth: for the LORD has determined it.

Distruggerà per sempre la morte; il Signore, l'Eterno asciugherà le lacrime da ogni viso, toglierà via da tutta la terra il vituperio del suo popolo, perché l'Eterno ha parlato.

9 ¶ And it shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God, whom we have waited for, and he has saved us: this is the LORD, whom we have waited for, we will be glad and rejoice in his saving health.

In quel giorno si dirà: «Ecco, questo è il nostro DIO: in lui abbiamo sperato ed egli ci salverà. Questo è l'Eterno in cui abbiamo sperato; esultiamo e rallegriamoci nella sua salvezza!».

10 F or in this mountain the hand of the LORD shall rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.

Poiché la mano dell'Eterno si poserà su questo monte, mentre Moab sarà calpestato sotto di lui come si calpesta la paglia su un letamaio.

11 A nd he shall extend his hand in the midst of him as he that swims spreads forth his hand to swim: and he shall bring down his pride with the members of his hands

Egli stenderà le sue mani nel suo mezzo, come le distende il nuotatore per nuotare, e abbasserà la sua superbia assieme alle macchinazioni ordite dalle sue mani.

12 a nd lay siege to the fortress of thy high walls; he shall humble it and bring it down to the ground, even to the dust.

La fortezza delle tue alte mura, egli la demolirà, l'abbatterà, la getterà a terra fin giú nella polvere.
