1 ¶ Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain, so the LORD shall make lightnings and shall give you abundant rain and grass in the field to each one.

Chiedete all'Eterno la pioggia nel tempo dell'ultima pioggia! L'Eterno produrrà lampi seguiti da tuoni e pioggia, darà loro piogge abbondanti, ad ognuno erba nel proprio campo.

2 F or the idols have spoken vanity and the diviners have seen a lie and have told vain dreams; they comfort in vain; therefore they went their way like sheep; they were humbled because there was no shepherd.

Poiché gli idoli domestici dicono cose vane, gli indovini osservano falsità e raccontano sogni bugiardi, danno un vano conforto; per questo vanno errando come pecore, sono afflitti, perché senza pastore

3 M y anger is kindled against the pastors, and I will visit the he goats, for the LORD of the hosts shall visit his flock, the house of Judah, and shall make them as his horse of honour in the battle.

«La mia ira divampa contro i pastori e punirò i capri, perché l'Eterno degli eserciti visiterà il suo gregge, la casa di Giuda, e ne farà come il suo maestoso cavallo in battaglia.

4 O ut of him shall come the corner, out of him the stake, out of him the battle bow, out of him also every oppressor.

Da lui uscirà la testata d'angolo, da lui il piuolo, da lui l'arco di battaglia, da lui uscirà ogni dominatore, tutti insieme.

5 ¶ And they shall be as mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle; and they shall fight because the LORD shall be with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

E saranno come prodi che calpesteranno i loro nemici nel fango delle strade in battaglia. Combatteranno, perché l'Eterno è con loro, saranno confusi quelli che montano i cavalli.

6 F or I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will keep the house of Joseph, and I will cause them to return; for I shall have compassion upon them, and they shall be as though I had not cast them off, for I am the LORD their God and will hear them.

Io fortificherò la casa di Giuda e salverò la casa di Giuseppe, e li ricondurrò perché ho compassione di loro; saranno come se non li avessi mai scacciati, perché io sono l'Eterno, il loro DIO, e li esaudirò.

7 A nd those of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine, their sons shall also see it and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the LORD.

Quelli di Efraim saranno come un prode e il loro cuore si rallegrerà come inebriato dal vino. Sí, i loro figli lo vedranno e si rallegreranno, il loro cuore esulterà nell'Eterno.

8 I will hiss for them and gather them; for I have ransomed them; and they shall be multiplied as they were multiplied.

Fischierò loro per riunirli, perché io li riscatterò; ed essi moltiplicheranno come già moltiplicarono.

9 I t was good that I planted them among the peoples; even in far countries there shall be mention made of me; and they shall live with their sons and turn again.

Li disseminerò fra i popoli e nei paesi lontani si ricorderanno di me; vivranno assieme ai loro figli e torneranno.

10 I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt and gather them out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; and place shall not be found for them.

Li farò ritornare dal paese d'Egitto e li raccoglierò dall'Assiria per riportarli nel paese di Galaad e al Libano, ma non ci sarà spazio sufficiente per loro.

11 A nd the tribulation shall pass through the sea and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up; and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall be lost.

Egli passerà per il mare dell'avversità, ma percuoterà le onde del mare e tutte le profondità del fiume saranno prosciugate. L'orgoglio dell'Assiria sarà abbattuto e lo scettro d'Egitto sarà rimosso.

12 A nd I will strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith the LORD.

Li renderò forti nell'Eterno ed essi cammineranno nel suo nome», dice l'Eterno.
