1 ¶ And after Abimelech there arose to save Israel, Tola, the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in Mount Ephraim.

Dopo Abimelek sorse, per salvare Israele, Tola figlio di Puah, figlio di Dodo, uomo di Issacar. Egli abitava a Shamir, nella regione montuosa di Efraim;

2 A nd he judged Israel twenty-three years and died and was buried in Shamir.

fu giudice d'Israele per ventitré anni; poi morì e fu sepolto a Shamir.

3 A nd after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.

Dopo di lui sorse Jair, il Galaadita, che fu giudice d'Israele per ventidue anni.

4 A nd he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called the cities of Jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

Egli aveva trenta figli che cavalcavano trenta asinelli e avevano trenta città che si chiamano anche oggi i villaggi di Jair, e sono del paese di Galaad.

5 A nd Jair died and was buried in Camon.

Poi Jair morì e fu sepolto a Kamon.

6 ¶ And the sons of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD and served the Baalim and Ashtaroth and the gods of Syria and the gods of Zidon and the gods of Moab and the gods of the sons of Ammon and the gods of the Philistines and forsook the LORD and did not serve him.

Poi i figli d'Israele tornarono a fare ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno e servirono i Baal e le Ashtaroth gli dèi della Siria, gli dèi di Sidone, gli dèi di Moab, gli dèi dei figli di Ammon e gli dèi dei Filistei; abbandonarono l'Eterno e non lo servirono più.

7 A nd the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the sons of Ammon,

Così l'ira dell'Eterno si accese contro Israele, ed egli li diede nelle mani dei Filistei e nelle mani dei figli di Ammon.

8 w ho dashed in pieces and crushed the sons of Israel for eighteen years, all the sons of Israel that were on the other side of the Jordan in the land of the Amorite, which is in Gilead.

In quell'anno essi molestarono ed oppressero i figli d'Israele; per diciotto anni essi oppressero tutti i figli d'Israele che erano di là dal Giordano, nel paese degli Amorei in Galaad.

9 M oreover the sons of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim so that Israel was sore distressed.

Poi i figli di Ammon passarono il Giordano per combattere anche contro Giuda, contro Beniamino e contro la casa di Efraim; e Israele si trovò in una grande avversità.

10 ¶ And the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee because we have forsaken our God and served the Baalim.

Allora i figli d'Israele gridarono all'Eterno, dicendo: «Abbiamo peccato contro di te, perché abbiamo abbandonato il nostro DIO e abbiamo servito i Baal»

11 A nd the LORD replied unto the sons of Israel, Were you not oppressed by Egypt, by the Amorites, by the sons of Ammon, by the Philistines,

L'Eterno disse ai figli d'Israele: «Non vi ho io liberati dagli Egiziani, dagli Amorei, dai figli di Ammon e dai Filistei?

12 b y those of Zidon, by Amalek, and by Maon, and ye cried to me and I delivered you out of their hands?

Quando quelli di Sidone, gli Amalekiti e i Maoniti vi opprimevano e voi gridaste a me, non vi liberai io dalle loro mani?

13 Y et ye have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore, I will deliver you no more.

Nonostante ciò, mi avete abbandonato e avete servito altri dèi; perciò io non vi libererò piú.

14 G o and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your affliction.

Andate dunque a gridare agli dèi che avete scelto; vi salvino essi nel tempo della vostra avversità!».

15 A nd the sons of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned; do thou unto us whatever seems good unto thee; only deliver us now, we pray thee, this day.

I figli d'Israele dissero all'Eterno: «Abbiamo peccato; fa' a noi tutto ciò che ti pare, ma liberaci oggi, ti supplichiamo».

16 A nd they put away the strange gods from among them and served the LORD; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

Allora tolsero di mezzo a loro gli dèi stranieri e servirono l'Eterno che si addolorò per la sofferenza d'Israele.

17 T hen the sons of Ammon were gathered together and encamped in Gilead. And likewise the sons of Israel assembled themselves together and encamped in Mizpeh.

Poi i figli di Ammon si radunarono e si accamparono in Galaad, e i figli d'Israele si radunarono e si accamparono a Mitspah.

18 A nd the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, Who shall it be that will begin the battle against the sons of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

Il popolo, cioè i principi di Galaad, si dissero l'un l'altro: Chi sarà l'uomo che inizierà a combattere contro i figli di Ammon? Egli sarà il capo di tutti gli abitanti di Galaad».
