1 ¶ And after Abimelech there arose to save Israel, Tola, the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in Mount Ephraim.

làm quan xét trong Y-sơ-ra-ên hai mươi ba năm; rồi thác và được chôn tại Sa-mia.

3 A nd after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.

Sau người ấy có Giai-rơ, người Ga-la-át, dấy lên, làm quan xét Y-sơ-ra-ên trong hai mươi hai năm.

4 A nd he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called the cities of Jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

Người có ba mươi con trai, cỡi ba mươi lừa con, và có ba mươi cái thành ở tại xứ Ga-la-át; ngày nay người ta cũng còn gọi nó là thôn Giai-rơ.

5 A nd Jair died and was buried in Camon.

Khi Giai-rơ thác thì được chôn tại Kha-môn.

6 ¶ And the sons of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD and served the Baalim and Ashtaroth and the gods of Syria and the gods of Zidon and the gods of Moab and the gods of the sons of Ammon and the gods of the Philistines and forsook the LORD and did not serve him.

Kế ấy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại làm điều ác trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, phục sự những Ba-anh và A

7 A nd the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the sons of Ammon,

Cơn thạnh nộ của Đức Giê-hô-va bèn nổi phừng cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên; Ngài phó chúng nó vào tay dân Phi-li-tin và vào tay người Am-môn.

8 w ho dashed in pieces and crushed the sons of Israel for eighteen years, all the sons of Israel that were on the other side of the Jordan in the land of the Amorite, which is in Gilead.

Kể từ năm đó, hai dân tộc nầy hà hiếp và chà nát dân Y-sơ-ra-ên: những người Y-sơ-ra-ên ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh trong xứ A-mô-rít, tại miền Ga-la-át, bị hà hiếp, chà nát trong mười tám năm.

9 M oreover the sons of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim so that Israel was sore distressed.

Dân Am-môn cũng sang qua sông Giô-đanh, đánh Giu-đa, Bên-gia-min, và nhà E

10 ¶ And the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee because we have forsaken our God and served the Baalim.

Bấy giờ dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kêu cầu Đức Giê-hô-va, mà rằng: Chúng tôi có phạm tội cùng Chúa, vì chúng tôi đã lìa bỏ Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, và hầu việc các thần Ba-anh.

11 A nd the LORD replied unto the sons of Israel, Were you not oppressed by Egypt, by the Amorites, by the sons of Ammon, by the Philistines,

Nhưng Đức Chúa Trời đáp cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Ta há chẳng có giải cứu các ngươi khỏi dân Ê-díp-tô, khỏi dân A-mô-rít, khỏi dân Am-môn, và khỏi dân Phi-li-tin sao?

12 b y those of Zidon, by Amalek, and by Maon, and ye cried to me and I delivered you out of their hands?

Lại khi dân Si-đôn, dân A-ma-léc, và dân Ma-ôn hà hiếp các ngươi, thì các ngươi có kêu cầu cùng ta, và ta đã giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay chúng nó.

13 Y et ye have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore, I will deliver you no more.

Nhưng các ngươi đã lìa bỏ ta, hầu việc các thần khác, bởi đó cho nên ta không giải cứu các ngươi nữa.

14 G o and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your affliction.

Hãy đi kêu cầu những thần mà các ngươi đã chọn; chúng nó khá giải cứu các ngươi trong cơn hoạn nạn!

15 A nd the sons of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned; do thou unto us whatever seems good unto thee; only deliver us now, we pray thee, this day.

Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thưa cùng Đức Giê-hô-va rằng: Chúng tôi đã phạm tội! Xin Chúa hãy đãi chúng tôi theo điều Chúa cho là tốt lành, chỉ xin hãy giải cứu chúng tôi ngày nay!

16 A nd they put away the strange gods from among them and served the LORD; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

Họ bèn cất khỏi giữa mình các tà thần, rồi trở lại phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va; lòng Ngài buồn rầu về sự khốn khổ của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

17 T hen the sons of Ammon were gathered together and encamped in Gilead. And likewise the sons of Israel assembled themselves together and encamped in Mizpeh.

Dân Am-môn nhóm lại, và đóng trại trong xứ Ga-la-át. Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cũng nhóm lại, và đóng trại tại Mích-ba.

18 A nd the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, Who shall it be that will begin the battle against the sons of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

Dân sự và các quan trưởng xứ Ga-la-át hỏi nhau rằng: Ai là người sẽ khởi đầu ra đánh dân Am-môn? Người đó sẽ làm quan trưởng hết thảy dân Ga-la-át.
