3 A nd the people entered by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

5 A nd Joab entering into the house of the king, said unto him, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy slaves, who this day have saved thy life and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters and the lives of thy wives and the lives of thy concubines,

Giô-áp bèn vào nhà vua, và nói rằng: Ngày nay vua làm hổ mặt các kẻ tôi tớ vua, là những người chính ngày nay đã cứu mạng sống của vua, của các con trai và các con gái vua, luôn đến cứu mạng sống của các vợ và hầu vua nữa.

6 b y loving those who hate thee and hating thy friends. For thou hast declared this day that thou dost not regard thy princes nor thy slaves. For this day I perceive that if Absalom had lived and we had all died today, then this would be right in thine eyes.

7 N ow, therefore, arise, go forth and speak unto the heart of thy slaves, for I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, not one of them will abide with thee tonight and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that has come upon thee from thy youth until now.

Thà vua chổi dậy, đi ra nói những lời giục lòng các tôi tớ vua; vì tôi chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va mà thề rằng, nếu vua không chường ra, thì đêm nay sẽ không còn một người nào ở bên vua; và tai nạn ấy sẽ còn trọng hơn các tai nạn khác đã xảy đến cho vua từ khi thơ ấu tới ngày nay.

8 T hen the king arose and sat in the gate. And it was declared unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king sits in the gate. And all the people came before the king, but Israel had fled every man to his tent.

Bấy giờ, vua chổi dậy, ngồi tại cửa thành. Người ta cho cả dân sự biết rằng vua đã ngồi tại cửa thành. Cả dân sự bèn kéo đến trước mặt vua. Vả, Y-sơ-ra-ên ai nấy đều đã chạy trốn nơi trại mình.

9 ¶ And all the people were in contention throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines, and now he has fled out of the land for Absalom.

Trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên người ta trách nhau rằng: Vua đã giải chúng ta khỏi tay kẻ thù nghịch chúng ta, và người đã cứu chúng ta khỏi tay dân Phi-li-tin. Song bây giờ, người phải trốn khỏi xứ vì cớ A

10 A nd Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now, therefore, why are ye silent regarding bringing the king back?

11 A nd King David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar, the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why shall ye be the last to bring the king back to his house? Seeing that the word of all Israel has come to the king, to return him to his house.

Vua Đa-vít sai nói cùng hai thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc và A-bia-tha rằng: Hãy nói cùng các trưởng lão Giu-đa mà rằng: Lời cả Y-sơ-ra-ên nói về việc rước vua về, đã thấu đến nơi vua rồi; vậy, cớ sao các ngươi là kẻ sau chót đem vua về cung người?

12 Y e are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh; why then are ye the last to bring back the king?

Các ngươi là anh em ta, là cốt nhục ta. Nhân sao các ngươi là kẻ sau chót đem vua về?

13 L ikewise say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone and of my flesh? God do so to me and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the place of Joab.

Cũng hãy nói cùng A-ma-sa rằng: Ngươi há chẳng phải là cốt nhục ta sao? Nếu ngươi không làm tổng binh thế cho Giô-áp hằng ở trước mặt ta, thì nguyện Đức Chúa Trời phạt ta cách nặng nề.

14 A nd he inclined the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man, so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou and all thy slaves.

Như vậy, Đa-vít được lòng hết thảy người Giu-đa, dường như họ chỉ một người mà thôi; họ bèn sai nói với vua rằng: Xin vua hãy trở về với hết thảy tôi tớ vua.

15 S o the king returned and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over the Jordan.

Vậy, vua trở về, đến tại bờ sông Giô-đanh. Các người Giu-đa đi đến đón vua tại Ghinh-ganh đặng đưa vua qua sông Giô-đanh.

16 ¶ And Shimei, the son of Gera, son of Jemini, who was of Bahurim, hastened and came down with the men of Judah to meet King David.

Si-mê -i, con trai Ghê-ra, người Bên-gia-min ở Ba-hu-rim, lật đật đi xuống với các người Giu-đa, đón vua Đa-vít.

17 A nd there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him; likewise Ziba, the slave of the house of Saul and his fifteen sons and his twenty slaves with him, who went over the Jordan before the king.

Một ngàn người Bên-gia-min đều theo người, với Xíp-ba, tôi tớ của nhà Sau-lơ, cùng mười lăm con trai người và hai mươi đầy tớ; chúng qua sông Giô-đanh tại trước mặt vua.

18 T hen the ferry boat went over to carry over the king’s household and to do what he desired. Then Shimei, the son of Gera, fell down before the king, as he was passing the Jordan,

Chiếc đò để sẵn cho gia quyến vua cũng qua một lượt. Si-mê -i, con trai của Ghê-ra, phục dưới chơn vua Đa-vít, trong khi vua hầu qua sông Giô-đanh.

19 A nd said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither retain the memory of the wickedness that thy slave did the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should guard it in his heart.

Người nói cùng vua rằng: Cầu xin chúa tôi chớ kể tội ác cho tôi, và đừng nhớ đến sự gian tà mà kẻ tôi tớ vua đã phạm trong ngày vua chúa tôi đi ra khỏi Giê-ru-sa-lem. Xin vua chớ để điều đó vào lòng.

20 F or I, thy slave, know that I have sinned; therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

Kẻ tôi tớ vua nhìn biết mình đã phạm tội. Vì vậy, ngày nay trong cả nhà Giô-sép, tôi đã đến trước hết đặng xuống đón vua chúa tôi.

21 B ut Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this because he cursed the LORD’s anointed?

Nhưng A-bi-sai, con trai Xê-ru-gia, đáp rằng: Vậy, người ta há không xử tử Si-mê -i vì cớ đó sao, là kẻ đã rủa sả đấng chịu xức dầu của Đức Giê-hô-va?

22 T hen David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? Shall anyone be put to death today in Israel? Do I not know that I am this day king over Israel?

Nhưng Đa-vít đáp cùng người rằng: Hãy các con trai Xê-ru-gia, ta có can hệ chi với các ngươi chăng, mà ngày nay các ngươi ở với ta khác nào kẻ cừu địch? Trong một ngày như vậy, người ta há có thể sai giết một người trong Y-sơ-ra-ên ư? Ngày nay có lẽ nào ta không hiểu rằng ta là vua của Y-sơ-ra-ên sao?

23 A nd the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king swore unto him.

Đoạn, vua nói cùng Si-mê -i rằng: Ngươi chẳng chết đâu. Rồi vua lập lời thề với người.

24 ¶ Mephibosheth, the son of Saul, also came down to meet the king and had neither washed his feet nor trimmed his beard nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.

Mê-phi-bô-sết, con trai của Sau-lơ, cũng đi xuống đón vua. Người không có rửa chơn, chải râu hay là giặt áo mình từ lúc vua ra đi, cho đến ngày vua trở về bình an vô sự.

25 A nd after he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said unto him, Why didst thou not go with me, Mephibosheth?

Khi người ở Giê-ru-sa-lem đến đón vua, thì Đa-vít hỏi người rằng: Hãy Mê-phi-bô-sết, sao ngươi không đến cùng ta?

26 A nd he answered, My lord, O king, my slave deceived me, for thy slave said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride upon it and go to the king because thy slave is lame.

Người thưa rằng: O

27 A nd he has slandered thy slave unto my lord the king, but my lord the king is as an angel of God; do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

Người ta có cáo gian tôi ở nơi vua chúa tôi; nhưng vua chúa tôi khác nào một thiên sứ của Đức Chúa Trời. Xin hãy đãi tôi theo ý vua lấy làm tốt.

28 F or all of my father’s house were worthy of death before my lord the king; yet thou didst set thy slave among those that eat at thy own table. What righteousness, therefore, have I yet to cry any more unto the king?

Vì các người của nhà cha tôi trước mặt vua chúa tôi chỉ đáng chết mà thôi. Dầu vậy, vua đã để tôi vào số người ăn nơi bàn vua. Thế thì, tôi nào còn có lẽ gì mà phàn nàn cùng vua?

29 A nd the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more words? I have determined, Thou and Ziba divide the land.

Vua nói cùng người rằng: Sao còn nói về việc mình làm chi? Ta đã nói rằng: Ngươi và Xíp-ba hãy chia lấy đất.

30 A nd Mephibosheth said unto the king, Let him even take it all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.

Mê-phi-bô-sết thưa lại rằng: Xíp-ba lấy hết cũng được, bởi vua chúa tôi đã trở về nhà mình bình an vô sự.

31 ¶ Barzillai, the Gileadite, also came down from Rogelim and went over the Jordan with the king to conduct him over the Jordan.

Bát-xi-lai ở Ga-la-át cũng từ Rô-ghê-lim xuống, và qua sông Giô-đanh với vua đặng đưa vua đến bên kia sông.

32 N ow Barzillai was a very aged man, of eighty years, who had provided the king with sustenance while he was at Mahanaim, for he was a very great man.

Người đã già quá, được tám mươi tuổi, có cung cấp lương thực cho vua trọn lúc vua ở tại Ma-ha-na-im; vì người có nhiều của cải lắm.

33 A nd the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.

Vua nói với Bát-xi-tai rằng: Hãy qua sông Giô-đanh với ta, ta sẽ bao bọc cho ngươi ở nhà ta tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

34 A nd Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

Nhưng Bát-xi-lai thưa cùng vua rằng: Bây giờ tôi còn bao lâu ngày nữa, mà lại cùng vua đi lên Giê-ru-sa-lem?

35 I am this day eighty years old, and shall I tell the difference between the good and the bad? Shall thy slave enjoy what I eat or what I drink? Shall I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should thy slave be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

Ngày nay tôi được tám mươi tuổi, há còn có thế phân biệt điều tốt và điều xấu ư? Kẻ tôi tớ vua cũng chẳng nếm được mùi của vật mình ăn và uống. Há lại có thể vui nghe người nam nữ ca xướng sao? Kẻ tôi tớ vua sẽ làm bận vua chúa tôi mà làm chi?

36 T hy slave will go a little way over the Jordan with the king, and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

Kẻ tôi tớ vua sẽ cùng vua đi tới một chút ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh. Cớ sau vua muốn thưởng cho tôi cách dường ấy?

37 L et thy slave, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in my own city and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy slave Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king, and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

Xin cho phép tôi trở về, hầu cho tôi chết trong thành tôi, gần bên mộ của cha mẹ tôi. Nhưng nầy là Kim-ham, kẻ tôi tớ vua; nó sẽ đi qua sông Giô-đanh với vua chúa tôi, rồi vua phải đãi nó tùy ý vua lấy làm tốt.

38 A nd the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do with him that which shall seem good unto thee, and whatever thou shalt ask of me, that will I do for thee.

Vua tiếp rằng: Kim-ham sẽ theo ta, ta sẽ làm cho nó mọi điều ngươi muốn; hễ ngươi xin ta điều gì, thì ta sẽ nhậm cho.

39 A nd all the people went over the Jordan. And when the king had also come over, the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and he returned unto his own place.

Vậy, cả dân sự đều qua sông Giô-đanh, chính mình vua cũng đi nữa. Đoạn vua hôn và chúc phước cho Bát-xi-lai; rồi Bát-xi-lai trở về xứ sở mình.

40 ¶ Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him; and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.

Từ đó, vua đi qua Ghinh-ganh, có Kim-ham, cả dân Giu-đa, và hơn phân nửa dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều theo.

41 A nd, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah, stolen thee away and have brought the king and his household and all David’s men with him, over the Jordan?

Bấy giờ, hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên đến cùng vua, mà hỏi rằng: Cớ sao anh em chúng tôi là người Giu-đa, có lén đem vua, đi đưa sang sông Giô-đanh luôn với người nhà và hết thảy kẻ theo vua?

42 A nd all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us. Why then are ye angry for this matter? Have we eaten anything at the king’s cost? Or has he given us any gift?

Người Giu-đa đáp lại cùng người Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Aáy vì vua là đồng tộc cùng chúng ta. Vả lại, cớ sao anh em giận? Chúng ta có ăn nhờ gì của vua chăng? Chúng ta há có lãnh một của gì nơi vua sao?

43 T hen the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye; why then did ye not take us into account? Did we not speak first about bringing back our king? But in the end words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

Nhưng người Y-sơ-ra-ên đáp cùng người Giu-đa rằng: Chúng ta có mười phần nơi vua, lại Đa-vít thuộc về chúng ta hơn là các ngươi; vậy, cớ sao các ngươi không đếm xỉa đến chúng ta? Há chẳng phải chúng ta nói trước đem vua về sao? Những lời nói của người Giu-đa lại còn nặng hơn lời nói của người Y-sơ-ra-ên.
