1 ¶ Now the days of David drew near that he should die; and he charged Solomon, his son, saying,

Khi ngày của Đa-vít hầu trọn, người truyền lịnh cho Sa-lô-môn, con trai mình, mà rằng:

2 I go the way of all the earth; be thou strong therefore and show thyself a man.

Ta hầu đi con đường chung của thế gian, khá mạnh dạn và nên người trượng phu!

3 K eep the charge of the LORD thy God, walking in his ways, keeping his statutes and his commandments and his rights and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou may have understanding in all that thou doest and in everything that thou dost undertake,

Hãy giữ điều Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời muốn con giữ, để đi trong đường lối Ngài, gìn giữ những luật pháp, điều răn, mạng lịnh, và sự dạy dỗ của Ngài, y như đã chép trong luật pháp của Môi-se, hầu cho con làm điều chi hay là đi nơi nào cũng đều được thành công,

4 t hat the LORD may confirm the word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If thy sons take heed to their way, walking before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.

và Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ làm ứng nghiệm lời Ngài đã phán về ta, rằng: Nhược bằng các con trai ngươi cẩn thận về đường lối mình, hết lòng, hết ý theo lẽ thật mà đi ở trước mặt ta, thì ngươi sẽ chẳng hề thiếu người ngồi trên ngôi Y-sơ-ra-ên.

5 M oreover thou knowest also what Joab, the son of Zeruiah, did to me and what he did to the two captains of the host of Israel, unto Abner, the son of Ner and unto Amasa, the son of Jether, whom he slew, shedding the blood of war in peace and putting the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins and in his shoes that were on his feet.

Con biết sự Giô-áp, con trai Xê-ru-gia, đã làm cho cha, sự nó đã làm cho hai quan tướng của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là A

6 D o, therefore, according to thy wisdom and let not his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.

Con hãy cứ sự khôn ngoan con mà cư xử, chớ để đầu bạc nó xuống âm phủ cách bình yên.

7 B ut show mercy unto the sons of Barzillai, the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table, for they came thus unto me when I fled because of Absalom, thy brother.

Con hãy ở với các con trai Bát-xi-lai, người Ga-la-át, cách nhơn từ cho họ ăn đồng bàn cùng con; vì chính chúng nó đã đãi cha như vậy, mà đến đón rước cha, lúc cha chạy trốn trước mặt A

8 A nd, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei, the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

Nầy còn kẻ ở với con, là Si-mê -i, con trai Ghê-ra, người Bên-gia-min, ở A-hu-rim, là kẻ lấy những lời độc ác mà nguyền rủa cha trong ngày cha đi đến Ma-ha-na-im; nhưng nó xuống đón cha tại Giô-đanh, thì cha đã nhơn danh Đức Giê-hô-va mà thề với nó rằng: Ta sẽ chẳng giết ngươi bằng gươm.

9 N ow therefore do not hold him guiltless, for thou art a wise man and knowest what thou should do with him, but thou shalt bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

Bây giờ, con chớ để nó khỏi phạt, vì con là khôn ngoan, biết thế nào phải xử nó: con khá làm cho đầu bạc nó dính máu mà xuống âm phủ.

10 A nd David slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David.

Đa-vít an giấc với các tổ phụ mình, và được chôn trong thành Đa-vít.

11 T he days that David reigned over Israel were forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

Những ngày Đa-vít trị vì trên Y-sơ-ra-ên là bốn mươi năm: người trị vì bảy năm tại Hếp-rôn, và ba mươi ba năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

12 ¶ Then Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was established greatly.

Đoạn, Sa-lô-môn ngồi trên ngai Đa-vít, cha mình, và nước người được lập rất vững bền.

13 T hen Adonijah, the son of Haggith, came to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

A-đô-ni-gia, con trai Ha-ghít, đến cùng Bát-sê-ba, mẹ của Sa-lô-môn. Bà nói: Ngươi đến có ý bình an chớ? Người thưa rằng: Phải, có ý bình an.

14 H e said moreover, I have a word to say unto thee. And she said, Say on.

Người lại rằng: Tôi có một lời nói cùng bà. Bà đáp: Hãy nói.

15 A nd he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine and that all Israel had set their faces on me that I should reign, but the kingdom is turned about and is become my brother’s, for by the LORD it was his.

Người tiếp: Bà biết rằng nước vốn thuộc về tôi, và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên đều mong thấy tôi trị vì; nhưng ngôi nước đã trở nên của em tôi, vì do nơi Đức Giê-hô-va mà thuộc về người.

16 A nd now I ask one petition of thee, do not deny me. And she said unto him, Say on.

Vậy bây giờ, tôi có một sự xin với bà, chớ từ chối. Bà đáp: Hãy nói.

17 T hen he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king (for he will not deny thee) that he give me Abishag, the Shunammite to wife.

Người nói: Xin bà hãy nói với vua Sa-lô-môn (vì người chẳng chối gì với bà), và cầu người cho tôi lấy A-bi-sác, người Su-nem, làm vợ.

18 A nd Bathsheba said, Well, I will speak for thee unto the king.

Bát-Sê-ba đáp: Được, ta sẽ nói với vua giùm cho ngươi.

19 B athsheba, therefore, went unto King Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed himself unto her and sat down on his throne and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother, and she sat on his right hand.

Bát-Sê-ba đi đến vua Sa-lô-môn, để nói với người giùm cho A-đô-ni-gia. Vua đứng dậy đi đón bà, cúi xuống lạy bà; đoạn, người ngồi trên ngai mình, và sai đặt một ngai khác cho mẹ mình; bà bèn ngồi bên tay hữu vua.

20 T hen she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, do not deny me. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother, for I will not deny thee.

Bà nói với vua rằng: Mẹ có một việc nhỏ xin con, con chớ từ chối. Vua đáp: Mẹ ôi! xin hãy nói; vì tôi sẽ chẳng từ chối với mẹ đâu.

21 A nd she said, Let Abishag, the Shunammite, be given to Adonijah, thy brother, to wife.

Bà tiếp: Hãy ban A-bi-sác, người Su-nem, làm vợ A-đô-ni-gia, là anh con.

22 A nd King Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag, the Shunammite, for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also, for he is my elder brother and he also has Abiathar, the priest, and Joab, the son of Zeruiah.

Nhưng vua Sa-lô-môn thưa cùng mẹ mình rằng: Cớ sao mẹ xin A-bi-sác, người Su-nem, cho A-đô-ni-gia? Cũng hãy xin nước cho người luôn, vì người là anh cả tôi; hãy xin cho người, cho thầy tế lễ A-bia-tha, và cho Giô-áp, con trai Xê-ru-gia.

23 T hen King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, God do so to me and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life.

Vua Sa-lô-môn bèn chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va mà thề rằng: A-đô-ni-gia có nói lời đó nghịch với mạng sống mình; bằng chẳng, nguyện Đức Chúa Trời xử tôi cách nặng nề!

24 N ow, therefore, as the LORD lives, who has confirmed me, and set me on the throne of David, my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today.

Bây giờ, tôi chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va hằng sống, là Đấng đã làm cho tôi vững vàng, và khiến tôi ngồi trên ngai của Đa-vít, cha tôi, cùng lập một nhà cho tôi y như lời Ngài đã hứa, mà thề rằng: A-đô-ni-gia sẽ bị xử tử chính ngày hôm nay.

25 T hen King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died.

Vua Sa-lô-môn bèn truyền lịnh cho Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, xông đánh A-đô-ni-gia, thì người chết.

26 ¶ And unto Abiathar, the priest, the king said, Go to Anathoth, unto thine own inheritance, for thou art worthy of death; but I will not put thee to death today because thou didst bare the ark of the Lord GOD before David, my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

Đoạn, vua nói với thầy tế lễ A-bia-tha rằng: Hãy lui về A-na-tốt, trong đất ngươi, vì ngươi đáng chết. Song ngày nay ta không giết ngươi, vì ngươi có khiêng hòm giao ước của Chúa Giê-hô-va, trước mặt Đa-vít, là cha ta, và bởi vì ngươi đã bị hoạn nạn trong các sự hoạn nạn của cha ta.

27 S o Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto the LORD that he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

Như vậy, Sa-lô-môn đuổi A-bia-tha ra đi không cho làm thầy tế lễ của Đức Giê-hô-va nữa, hầu cho lời của Đức Giê-hô-va đã phán về nhà Hê-li, tại Si-lô, được ứng nghiệm.

28 A nd the news came to Joab, for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he had not turned after Absalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

Tin này thấu đến Giô-áp. (Vả Giô-áp đã theo phe A-đô-ni-gia, dầu không có theo phe của A

29 A nd it was told King Solomon that Joab had fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD and that he was by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.

Người ta đến tâu với vua Sa-lô-môn rằng: Giô-áp đã trốn đến Đền tạm của Đức Giê-hô-va, và kìa người đứng bên cạnh bàn thờ. Sa-lô-môn bèn sai Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, mà dặn rằng: Hãy đi đánh giết hắn đi.

30 A nd Benaiah entered into the tabernacle of the LORD and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come forth. And he said, No, but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

Bê-na-gia đi đến Đền tạm của Đức Giê-hô-va, nói cùng Giô-áp rằng: Vua có nói như vầy: Hãy ra khỏi đó. Giô-áp đáp: Không; ta muốn chết tại đây. Bê-na-gia đi thuật lại cho vua, và tâu rằng: Giô-áp đã nói và đáp lại như vậy.

31 A nd the king said unto him, Do as he has said and fall upon him and bury him that thou may take away from me and from the house of my father the blood which Joab shed without a cause.

Vua nói rằng: Hãy làm y như hắn nó. Hãy giết hắn và chôn đi. Như vậy, ngươi sẽ cất khỏi ta và khỏi nhà cha ta huyết mà Giô-áp đã đổ ra vô cớ.

32 A nd the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he and slew them with the sword without my father David knowing of it: Abner, the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa, the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ khiến huyết hắn đổ lại trên đầu hắn, vì hắn đã xông vào hai người công bình hơn, tốt hơn hắn, và giết họ bằng gươm, mà Đa-vít, cha ta, không hay đến chi cả: ấy là A

33 T heir blood shall, therefore, return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but upon David and upon his seed and upon his house and upon his throne shall there be peace for ever from the LORD.

Huyết hai người ấy sẽ đổ lại trên đầu Giô-áp và trên đầu của dòng dõi nó cho đến đời đời; còn phần Đa-vít và dòng dõi người, nhà và ngôi nước người sẽ nhờ Đức Giê-hô-va mà được bình yên mãi mãi.

34 S o Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, went up and fell upon him and slew him, and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

Vậy, Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, trở lên xông vào Giô-áp và giết người. Người được chôn ở nhà người, tại nơi đồng vắng.

35 ¶ And the king put Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, in his place over the host; and Zadok, the priest, the king put in the place of Abiathar.

Vua đặt Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, làm quan tổng binh thay cho Giô-áp, và lập Xa-đốc làm thầy tế lễ thay cho A-bia-tha.

36 A fterward the king sent and called for Shimei and said unto him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem and dwell there, and do not go forth from there anywhere.

Đoạn, vua sai đòi Si-mê -i, và nói với người rằng: Hãy cất cho ngươi một cái nhà tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, và ở đó; chớ ra đặng đi đầu này đầu kia.

37 F or it shall be that on the day thou goest out and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die; thy blood shall be upon thine own head.

Vì khá biết rằng ngày nào ngươi ra khỏi đó, và đi qua khe Xết-rôn, thì chắc ngươi sẽ chết: huyết ngươi sẽ đổ lại trên đầu ngươi.

38 A nd Shimei said unto the king, The word is good as my lord the king has said, so will thy slave do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

Si-mê -i thưa với vua rằng: Lời ấy phải lắm, vua chúa tôi phán dặn điều gì, kẻ tôi tớ vua sẽ làm điều đó. Vậy, Si-mê -i ở lâu ngày tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

39 B ut it came to pass at the end of three years that two of the slaves of Shimei ran away unto Achish, son of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy slaves are in Gath.

Cuối ba năm, xảy có hai kẻ tôi tớ của Si-mê -i trốn đến nhà A-kích, con trai Ma -a-ca, vua của Gát. Người ta đến thuật điều đó cho Si-mê -i mà rằng: Kìa, hai kẻ tôi tớ ông ở tại Gát.

40 A nd Shimei arose and saddled his ass and went to Gath to Achish to seek his slaves. Shimei went, therefore, and brought his slaves from Gath.

Si-mê -i chổi dậy, thắng lừa mình, đi đến Gát, nơi nhà A-kích, đặng tìm hai kẻ tôi tớ mình. Gặp đoạn, bèn dẫn chúng nó về.

41 A nd it was told Solomon how Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had come again.

Người ta thuật cho Sa-lô-môn rằng Si-mê -i ở Giê-ru-sa-lem đã đi đến Gát, rồi trở về.

42 T hen the king sent and called for Shimei and said unto him, Did I not make thee to swear by the LORD and protested unto thee, saying, Know for certain, on the day thou goest out and walkest abroad anywhere that thou shalt surely die? And thou didst say unto me, The word that I have heard is good.

Vua sai đòi Si-mê -i mà phán rằng: Ta há chẳng có bắt ngươi chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va mà thề, và bảo ngươi trước rằng: Khá biết rằng ngày nào ngươi ra, và đi đầu này đầu kia, thì ngươi chắc sẽ chết sao? Và ngươi có thưa cùng ta rằng: Lời tôi đã nghe, thậm phải?

43 W hy then hast thou not kept the oath of the LORD and the commandment that I have charged thee with?

Vậy, cớ sao ngươi không giữ lời chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va mà thề, và mạng lịnh Đức Giê-hô-va truyền cho ngươi?

44 T he king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thy heart knoweth well that thou didst to David my father; therefore, the LORD has turned thy wickedness upon thine own head;

Vua lại nói với Si-mê -i rằng: Ngươi biết mọi sự ác ngươi đã làm cho Đa-vít, là cha ta, mà lòng ngươi vẫn còn nhớ lắm. Vậy nên Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ khiến sự ác của ngươi đổ lại tên đầu ngươi.

45 a nd King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever.

Nhưng vua Sa-lô-môn sẽ được phước, và ngôi của Đa-vít sẽ được lập vững bền đến đời đời.

46 T hen the king commanded Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, who went out and fell upon him that he died. And the kingdom was confirmed in the hand of Solomon.

Đoạn, vua truyền lịnh cho Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa; người bèn đi ra đánh giết Si-mê -i. Như vậy, ngôi nước được vững bền trong tay Sa-lô-môn.
