1 ¶ Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign and reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hephzibah.

Manasse aveva dodici anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò cinquantacinque anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Chefsiba.

2 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the Gentiles, whom the LORD cast out before the sons of Israel.

Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore seguendo le abominazioni delle nazioni che il Signore aveva scacciate davanti ai figli d’Israele.

3 F or he built up again the high places which Hezekiah, his father, had destroyed, and he raised up altars for Baal and made a grove, as Ahab, king of Israel, had done; and he worshipped all the host of heaven and served those things.

Ricostruì gli alti luoghi che Ezechia suo padre aveva demoliti, costruì altari a Baal, fece un idolo di Astarte, come aveva fatto Acab, re d’Israele, e adorò tutto l’esercito del cielo e lo servì.

4 L ikewise, he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, In Jerusalem I will put my name.

Costruì pure altari ad altri dèi nella casa del Signore, riguardo alla quale il Signore aveva detto: «In Gerusalemme io porrò il mio nome».

5 A nd he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.

Costruì altari a tutto l’esercito del cielo nei due cortili della casa del Signore.

6 A nd he made his son pass through the fire and observed times and used enchantments and dealt with spiritists and diviners and multiplied much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Fece passare suo figlio per il fuoco, si diede alla magia e agli incantesimi e nominò degli evocatori di spiriti e degli indovini; si abbandonò completamente a fare ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, provocando la sua ira.

7 A nd he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD had said to David and to Solomon, his son, In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever;

Mise l’idolo di Astarte, che aveva fatto, nella casa della quale il Signore aveva detto a Davide e a suo figlio Salomone: «In questa casa e a Gerusalemme, che io ho scelta fra tutte le tribù d’Israele, porrò il mio nome per sempre;

8 n either will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers, only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them and according to all the law that my slave Moses commanded them.

e non permetterò più che il piede d’Israele vada errando fuori dal paese che io diedi ai suoi padri, purché essi mettano in pratica tutto quello che ho loro comandato e tutta la legge che il mio servo Mosè ha loro prescritta».

9 B ut they did not hearken, and Manasseh caused them to err and to do more evil than did the Gentiles whom the LORD destroyed before the sons of Israel.

Ma essi non ubbidirono, e Manasse li indusse a far peggio delle nazioni che il Signore aveva distrutte davanti ai figli d’Israele.

10 ¶ And the LORD spoke by his slaves, the prophets, saying,

Il Signore parlò per mezzo dei suoi servi, i profeti, in questi termini:

11 B ecause Manasseh, king of Judah, has done these abominations and has done more evil than all that the Amorites did, who were before him and has also made Judah sin with his idols;

«Poiché Manasse, re di Giuda, ha commesso queste azioni abominevoli e ha fatto peggio di quanto fecero mai gli Amorei, prima di lui, e mediante i suoi idoli ha fatto peccare anche Giuda,

12 t herefore, thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears shall tingle.

così dice il Signore, Dio d’Israele: “Io faccio venire su Gerusalemme e su Giuda tali sciagure, che chiunque ne udrà parlare rimarrà stordito.

13 A nd I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab; and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.

Stenderò su Gerusalemme la stessa cordicella usata per Samaria e la livella usata per la casa di Acab; e ripulirò Gerusalemme come si ripulisce un piatto, che una volta lavato si capovolge.

14 A nd I will forsake the remnant of my inheritance and deliver them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies

E abbandonerò il resto della mia eredità; li darò nelle mani dei loro nemici e diverrano preda e bottino di tutti i loro nemici,

15 b ecause they have done that which was evil in my sight and have provoked me to anger since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.

perché hanno fatto ciò che è male agli occhi miei, e hanno provocato il mio sdegno dal giorno che i loro padri uscirono dall’Egitto fino a oggi”».

16 M oreover, Manasseh shed innocent blood very much until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another besides his sin with which he made Judah sin so that they would do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.

Manasse inoltre sparse moltissimo sangue innocente, tanto da riempirne Gerusalemme da un’estremità all’altra; senza contare i peccati che fece commettere a Giuda, facendo ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore.

17 N ow the rest of the acts of Manasseh and all that he did and his sin with which he sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Il rimanente delle azioni di Manasse, tutto quello che fece e i peccati che commise, è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.

18 A nd Manasseh slept with his fathers and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

Manasse si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nel giardino della sua casa, nel giardino di Uzza; e Amon, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto. Amon, re di Giuda

19 ¶ Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.

Amon aveva ventidue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò due anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Mesullemet, figlia di Carus, da Iotba.

20 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done.

Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, come aveva fatto Manasse suo padre;

21 A nd he walked in all the way that his father walked in and served the idols that his father had served and worshipped them;

imitò la condotta di suo padre, servì quegli idoli che aveva servito suo padre e li adorò;

22 a nd he forsook the LORD God of his fathers and did not walk in the way of the LORD.

abbandonò il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri, e non camminò per la via del Signore.

23 A nd the slaves of Amon conspired against him and slew the king in his own house.

I servitori di Amon organizzarono una congiura contro di lui e uccisero il re in casa sua.

24 T hen the people of the land slew all those that had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made Josiah, his son, king in his stead.

Ma il popolo del paese fece morire tutti quelli che avevano cospirato contro il re Amon e fece re, al suo posto, Giosia, suo figlio.

25 N ow the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Il rimanente delle azioni compiute da Amon è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.

26 A nd he was buried in his sepulchre in the garden of Uzza, and Josiah, his son, reigned in his stead.

Egli fu sepolto nel suo sepolcro, nel giardino di Uzza; e Giosia, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.
