1 ¶ We then, as workers together with him, exhort you also that ye have not received the grace of God in vain.

Come collaboratori di Dio, vi esortiamo a non ricevere la grazia di Dio invano;

2 ( For he saith, I have heard thee in an acceptable time, and in the day of saving health I have succoured thee; behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of saving health.)

poiché egli dice: «Ti ho esaudito nel tempo favorevole e ti ho soccorso nel giorno della salvezza». Eccolo ora il tempo favorevole; eccolo ora il giorno della salvezza!

3 G iving no offense in anything, that the ministry not be blamed,

Noi non diamo nessun motivo di scandalo affinché il nostro servizio non sia biasimato;

4 B ut in all things showing ourselves as the ministers of God in much patience, in tribulations, in necessities, in distresses,

ma in ogni cosa raccomandiamo noi stessi come servitori di Dio, con grande costanza nelle afflizioni, nelle necessità, nelle angustie,

5 i n stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings,

nelle percosse, nelle prigionie, nei tumulti, nelle fatiche, nelle veglie, nei digiuni;

6 i n chastity, in knowledge, in meekness, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in unfeigned charity,

con purezza, con conoscenza, con pazienza, con bontà, con lo Spirito Santo, con amore sincero;

7 i n the word of truth, in the power of God through the weapons of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

con un parlare veritiero, con la potenza di Dio; con le armi della giustizia a destra e a sinistra;

8 t hrough honour and dishonour, through evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet as men of the truth;

nella gloria e nell’umiliazione, nella buona e nella cattiva fama; considerati come impostori, eppure veritieri;

9 a s unknown, and yet well known; as dying, but, behold, we live; as chastened, but not killed;

come sconosciuti, eppure ben conosciuti; come moribondi, eppure eccoci viventi; come puniti, eppure non messi a morte;

10 a s sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

come afflitti, eppure sempre allegri; come poveri, eppure arricchendo molti; come non avendo nulla, eppure possedendo ogni cosa!

11 ¶ O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.

La nostra bocca vi ha parlato apertamente, Corinzi; il nostro cuore si è allargato.

12 Y e are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels.

Voi non siete allo stretto in noi, ma è il vostro cuore che si è ristretto.

13 N ow for a recompense in the same (I speak as unto my children), be ye also enlarged.

Ora, per renderci il contraccambio (parlo come a figli), allargate il cuore anche voi! Necessità di una scelta

14 B e ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship does righteousness have with unrighteousness? and what communion does light have with darkness?

Non vi mettete con gli infedeli sotto un giogo che non è per voi; infatti che rapporto c’è tra la giustizia e l’iniquità? O quale comunione tra la luce e le tenebre?

15 A nd what concord does Christ have with Belial? or what part do the faithful have with the unfaithful?

E quale accordo fra Cristo e Beliar ? O quale relazione c’è tra il fedele e l’infedele?

16 A nd what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them and walk in them and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

E che armonia c’è fra il tempio di Dio e gli idoli? Noi siamo infatti il tempio del Dio vivente, come disse Dio: « Abiterò e camminerò in mezzo a loro, sarò il loro Dio ed essi saranno il mio popolo.

17 T herefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you

Perciò uscite di mezzo a loro e separatevene, dice il Signore, e non toccate nulla d’impuro; e io vi accoglierò.

18 a nd will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

E sarò per voi come un padre e voi sarete come figli e figlie, dice il Signore onnipotente ».
