1 ¶ Then David said, This shall be the house of the LORD God, and this shall be the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.

Davide disse: «Qui sarà la casa di Dio, del Signore, e qui sarà l’altare degli olocausti per Israele».

2 A nd David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel, and he made them masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.

Davide ordinò che si radunassero gli stranieri che erano nel paese d’Israele e incaricò gli scalpellini di lavorare le pietre da taglio per la costruzione della casa di Dio.

3 L ikewise, David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings, and brass in abundance without weight,

Davide preparò pure del ferro in abbondanza per i chiodi e per i battenti delle porte e per le spranghe, una quantità di bronzo di peso incalcolabile

4 a lso cedar trees in abundance, for the Zidonians and those of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.

e del legname di cedro da non potersi contare; perché i Sidoni e i Tiri avevano portato a Davide legname di cedro in abbondanza.

5 A nd David said, Solomon, my son, is yet young and tender, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be magnificent par excellence, of fame and of glory throughout all lands; I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.

Davide diceva: «Salomone, mio figlio, è giovane, di tenera età, e la casa che si deve costruire al Signore sarà talmente magnifica da acquistarsi fama e gloria in tutti i paesi; io voglio dunque fare dei preparativi per lui». Così Davide preparò materiale in abbondanza, prima di morire.

6 ¶ Then he called for Solomon, his son, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.

Poi chiamò Salomone, suo figlio, e gli ordinò di costruire una casa al Signore, Dio d’Israele.

7 A nd David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my heart to build a house unto the name of the LORD my God;

Davide disse a Salomone: «Figlio mio, io stesso avevo in cuore di costruire una casa al nome del Signore, del mio Dio;

8 b ut the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly and hast made great wars; thou shalt not build a house unto my name because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.

ma la parola del Signore mi fu rivolta, e mi fu detto: “Tu hai sparso molto sangue e hai fatto grandi guerre; tu non costruirai una casa al mio nome, poiché hai sparso molto sangue sulla terra, davanti a me.

9 B ehold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about, for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.

Ma ecco, ti nascerà un figlio che sarà uomo di pace, e io gli darò tranquillità, liberandolo da tutti i suoi nemici circostanti. Salomone sarà il suo nome; io concederò pace e tranquillità a Israele durante la vita di lui.

10 H e shall build a house for my name, and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

Egli costruirà una casa al mio nome; egli mi sarà figlio e io gli sarò padre; e renderò stabile il trono del suo regno sopra Israele per sempre”.

11 N ow, my son, the LORD be with thee, and be thou prospered and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he has said of thee.

Ora, figlio mio, il Signore sia con te, perché tu prosperi e possa costruire la casa del Signore tuo Dio, secondo quanto egli ha detto di te.

12 O nly the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding and give thee commandments for Israel, and that thou keep the law of the LORD thy God.

Solamente, il Signore ti dia senno e intelligenza e ti costituisca sopra Israele, per osservare la legge del Signore tuo Dio.

13 T hen shalt thou be prospered if thou shalt keep thyself to do the statutes and rights which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel; be strong and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.

Allora prospererai, se ti applichi a mettere in pratica le leggi e i precetti che il Signore prescrisse a Mosè per Israele. Sii forte e coraggioso; non temere e non ti sgomentare.

14 N ow, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and the brass and iron are without weight, for it is in abundance. Likewise, I have prepared timber and stone, unto which thou shalt add.

Ora ecco, io, con le mie fatiche, ho preparato per la casa del Signore centomila talenti d’oro, un milione di talenti d’argento e una quantità di bronzo e di ferro da non potersi pesare, tanto è abbondante; ho pure preparato legname e pietre; e tu ve ne potrai aggiungere ancora.

15 M oreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber and all manner of expert men for every manner of work.

Tu hai presso di te operai in abbondanza: scalpellini, muratori, falegnami e ogni sorta di uomini esperti in qualunque specie di lavoro.

16 O f the gold, the silver, and the brass and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and go to work, and the LORD be with thee.

Quanto all’oro, all’argento, al bronzo, al ferro, ce n’è una quantità incalcolabile. Àlzati dunque, mettiti all’opera, e il Signore sia con te».

17 ¶ David, likewise, commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon, his son, saying,

Davide ordinò pure a tutti i capi d’Israele di aiutare suo figlio Salomone, e disse loro:

18 I s not the LORD your God with you who has given you rest on every side? For he has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the LORD and before his people.

«Il Signore vostro Dio non è forse con voi, e non vi ha dato tranquillità tutto intorno? Infatti egli mi ha dato nelle mani gli abitanti del paese, e il paese è assoggettato al Signore e al suo popolo.

19 N ow set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built unto the name of the LORD.

Disponete dunque il vostro cuore e l’anima vostra a cercare il Signore vostro Dio; poi alzatevi e costruite il santuario di Dio, il Signore, per trasferire l’arca del patto del Signore e gli utensili consacrati a Dio nella casa che dev’essere costruita al nome del Signore ».
