1 ¶ O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; and I should not be despised.

Oh, perché non sei tu come un mio fratello, allattato dal seno di mia madre! Trovandoti fuori, ti bacerei e nessuno mi disprezzerebbe.

2 I would lead thee and bring thee into my mother’s house, that thou would instruct me; I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

Ti condurrei, t’introdurrei in casa di mia madre; tu m’istruiresti e io ti darei da bere vino aromatico, succo del mio melograno.

3 H is left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

La sua sinistra sia sotto il mio capo e la sua destra mi abbracci!

4 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye not awake nor stir up love until he pleases.

Figlie di Gerusalemme, io vi scongiuro: non svegliate, non svegliate l’amor mio, finché lei non lo desideri!

5 ¶ Who is she that comes up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I woke thee up under the apple tree; there thy mother had birth pains; there she had pains that brought thee into the light.

Chi è colei che sale dal deserto appoggiata all’amico suo? Io ti ho svegliata sotto il melo, dove tua madre ti ha partorito, dove quella che ti ha partorito si è sgravata di te.

6 S et me as a seal upon thine heart as a sign upon thine arm; for love is strong as death; jealousy is hard as Sheol; the coals thereof are coals of fire, which have a most vehement flame.

Mettimi come un sigillo sul tuo cuore, come un sigillo sul tuo braccio; perché l’amore è forte come la morte, la gelosia è dura come il soggiorno dei morti. I suoi ardori sono ardori di fuoco, fiamma potente.

7 T he many waters cannot quench love, neither can the rivers drown it; if a man would give all the substance of his house for this love, it would certainly be despised.

9 I f she is a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver; and if she is a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.

Se è un muro, costruiremo su di lei una torretta d’argento; se è un uscio, la chiuderemo con una tavola di cedro.

10 I am a wall, and my breasts like towers since I was in his eyes as the one that found peace.

12 M y vineyard, which is mine, is before me; the thousand pieces shall be thine, O Solomon, and two hundred for those that keep the fruit.

La mia vigna, che è mia, la guardo da me; tu, Salomone, tieni per te i tuoi mille sicli, e ne abbiano duecento quelli che guardano il frutto della tua!

13 ¶ Thou, she that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice; cause me to hear it.

Tu che abiti nei giardini, i compagni stanno attenti alla tua voce! Fammela udire!

14 R un, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.

Fuggi, amico mio, come una gazzella o un cerbiatto, sui monti degli aromi!
