1 ¶ And it came to pass that when Jesus had finished these words, he departed from Galilee and came into the borders of Judaea beyond the Jordan;

Quando Gesù ebbe finito questi discorsi, partì dalla Galilea e se ne andò nei territori della Giudea che sono oltre il Giordano.

2 a nd a great multitude followed him, and he healed them there.

Una grande folla lo seguì, e là li guarì.

3 ¶ Then the Pharisees came unto him, tempting him and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for any cause?

Dei farisei gli si avvicinarono per metterlo alla prova, dicendo: «È lecito mandare via la propria moglie per un motivo qualsiasi?»

4 A nd he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he who made them at the beginning made them male and female?

Ed egli rispose: «Non avete letto che il Creatore, da principio, li creò maschio e femmina e disse:

5 A nd said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh.

“Perciò l’uomo lascerà il padre e la madre, e si unirà a sua moglie, e i due saranno una sola carne” ?

6 T herefore they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.

Così non sono più due, ma una sola carne; quello dunque che Dio ha unito, l’uomo non lo separi».

7 T hey say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a bill of divorce and to put her away?

Essi gli dissero: «Perché dunque Mosè comandò di darle un atto di ripudio e di mandarla via ?»

8 H e said unto them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

Egli disse loro: «Fu per la durezza dei vostri cuori che Mosè vi permise di mandare via le vostre mogli; ma da principio non era così.

9 A nd I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication and shall marry another, commits adultery, and whosoever marries her that is put away commits adultery.

Ma io vi dico che chiunque manda via sua moglie, quando non sia per motivo di fornicazione, e ne sposa un’altra, commette adulterio ».

10 H is disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not expedient to marry.

I {suoi} discepoli gli dissero: «Se tale è la condizione dell’uomo rispetto alla donna, non conviene sposarsi».

11 B ut he said unto them, Everyone cannot receive this word, except those unto whom it is given.

Ma egli rispose loro: «Non tutti sono capaci di mettere in pratica questa parola, ma soltanto quelli ai quali è dato.

12 F or there are some eunuchs who were so born from their mother’s womb; and there are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs of men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs because of the kingdom of the heavens. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Poiché vi sono degli eunuchi che sono tali dalla nascita; vi sono degli eunuchi i quali sono stati fatti tali dagli uomini, e vi sono degli eunuchi i quali si sono fatti eunuchi da sé a motivo del regno dei cieli. Chi può capire, capisca». Gesù benedice i bambini

13 ¶ Then were there brought unto him little children that he should put his hands on them and pray, and the disciples rebuked them.

Allora gli furono presentati dei bambini perché imponesse loro le mani e pregasse; ma i discepoli li sgridavano.

14 B ut Jesus said, Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of the heavens.

Ma Gesù disse: «Lasciate stare i bambini e non impedite loro di venire da me, perché il regno dei cieli è di chi è come loro».

15 A nd he laid his hands on them and departed from there.

E, imposte loro le mani, se ne andò via di là. Il giovane ricco

16 ¶ And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?

Ed ecco, un tale gli si avvicinò e disse: «Maestro, che devo fare di buono per avere la vita eterna?»

17 A nd he said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? There is none good but one, that is, God, but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Gesù gli rispose: «Perché m’interroghi intorno a ciò che è buono? Uno solo è il buono. Ma se vuoi entrare nella vita, osserva i comandamenti».

18 H e said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

«Quali?» gli chiese. E Gesù rispose: «Non uccidere, non commettere adulterio, non rubare, non testimoniare il falso.

19 H onour thy father and thy mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Onora tuo padre e tua madre, e ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso ».

20 T he young man said unto him, All these things I have kept from my youth up; what do I lack?

E il giovane a lui: «Tutte queste cose le ho osservate; che mi manca ancora?»

21 J esus said unto him, If thou desire to be perfect, go and sell what thou hast and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me.

Gesù gli disse: «Se vuoi essere perfetto, va’, vendi ciò che hai e dàllo ai poveri, e avrai un tesoro nei cieli; poi, vieni e seguimi».

22 B ut when the young man heard that word, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Ma il giovane, udita questa parola, se ne andò rattristato, perché aveva molti beni.

23 ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is difficult that a rich man shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

E Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: «Io vi dico in verità che difficilmente un ricco entrerà nel regno dei cieli.

24 A nd again I say unto you, It is easier to put a cable through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

E ripeto: è più facile per un cammello passare attraverso la cruna di un ago, che per un ricco entrare nel regno di Dio».

25 B ut his disciples hearing these things were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

I discepoli, udito questo, furono sbigottiti e dicevano: «Chi dunque può essere salvato?»

26 B ut Jesus beheld them and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

Gesù, fissando lo sguardo su di loro, disse: «Agli uomini questo è impossibile; ma a Dio ogni cosa è possibile».

27 T hen Peter answered and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

Allora Pietro, replicando, gli disse: «Ecco, noi abbiamo lasciato ogni cosa e ti abbiamo seguito; che ne avremo dunque?»

28 A nd Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.

E Gesù disse loro: «Io vi dico in verità che nella nuova creazione, quando il Figlio dell’uomo sarà seduto sul trono della sua gloria, anche voi che mi avete seguito sarete seduti su dodici troni a giudicare le dodici tribù d’Israele.

29 A nd every one that has forsaken houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my name’s sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit eternal life.

E chiunque avrà lasciato case, o fratelli, o sorelle, o padre, o madre, o figli, o campi a causa del mio nome, ne riceverà cento volte tanto ed erediterà la vita eterna.

30 B ut many that are first shall be last, and many of the last shall be first.

Ma molti primi saranno ultimi e gli ultimi, primi.
