1 ¶ The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy saving health how greatly shall he rejoice!

Al direttore del coro. Salmo di Davide. O Signore, il re si rallegra nella tua forza; oh, quanto esulta per la tua salvezza!

2 T hou hast given him his heart’s desire and hast not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.

Tu hai soddisfatto il desiderio del suo cuore e non hai respinto la richiesta delle sue labbra.

3 F or thou givest him beforehand the blessings of goodness; thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head.

Poiché tu gli sei venuto incontro con benedizioni eccellenti, gli hai posto in capo una corona d’oro finissimo.

4 H e asked life of thee, and thou didst give him length of days for ever and ever.

Egli ti aveva chiesto vita, e tu gliel’hai data: lunghi giorni in eterno.

5 H is glory is great in thy saving health; honour and beauty hast thou laid upon him.

Grande è la sua gloria attraverso la tua salvezza. Tu lo rivesti di maestà e di magnificenza;

6 F or thou hast made him most blessed for ever; thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.

poiché lo ricolmi delle tue benedizioni per sempre, lo riempi di gioia in tua presenza.

7 ¶ For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.

Perciò il re confida nel Signore e, per la benevolenza dell’Altissimo, non sarà mai smosso.

8 T hine hand shall find out all thine enemies; thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee.

La tua mano raggiungerà tutti i tuoi nemici; la tua destra colpirà quelli che ti odiano.

9 T hou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger; the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

Tu li metterai come in una fornace ardente, quando apparirai; il Signore, nel suo sdegno, li inabisserà, e il fuoco li divorerà.

10 T heir fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth and their seed from among the children of men.

Tu farai sparire il loro frutto dalla terra e la loro discendenza tra i figli degli uomini;

11 F or they intended evil against thee; they imagined a wicked device, but they did not prevail.

perché hanno macchinato del male contro di te, hanno ideato malvagi progetti, che non potranno attuare;

12 T herefore shalt thou separate them; thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.

poiché tu farai loro voltare le spalle, con il tuo arco mirerai diritto alla loro faccia.

13 B e thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy valour.

Innàlzati, o Signore, con la tua forza; noi canteremo e celebreremo la tua potenza.
