1 ¶ Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; defend me from those that rise up against me.

2 D eliver me from the workers of iniquity and save me from bloodthirsty men.

Liberami dai malfattori e salvami dagli uomini sanguinari.

3 F or, behold, they lie in wait for my soul; the strong are gathered against me; I am not in rebellion, nor in sin, O LORD.

Ecco, essi pongono insidie all’anima mia; uomini potenti si uniscono contro di me, senza colpa né peccato da parte mia, o Signore!

4 T hey run and prepare themselves when I have committed no iniquity; awake to help me and behold.

Senza mia colpa corrono e si preparano. Svègliati, avvicìnati a me, e guarda!

5 T hou, therefore, O LORD God of the hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the Gentiles; be not merciful to any rebellious workers of iniquity. Selah.

Tu, o Signore, Dio degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, àlzati a giudicare tutte le genti! Non fare grazia ad alcuno dei perfidi malfattori!

6 T hey will return at evening; they will bark like dogs and go round about outside the city.

Ritornano di sera, urlano come cani e si aggirano per la città.

7 B ehold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips; for who, say they, doth hear?

Ecco, vomitano ingiurie dalla loro bocca; hanno spade sulle labbra. «Tanto», dicono, «chi ci ascolta?»

8 ¶ But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the Gentiles in derision.

Ma tu, o Signore, riderai di loro; ti farai beffe di tutte le genti.

9 I will reserve his strength unto thee, for God is my defence.

O mia forza, a te mi rivolgerò, perché Dio è il mio rifugio.

10 T he God of my mercy shall meet me on the way; God shall let me see my desire upon my enemies.

Il mio Dio mi verrà incontro con la sua bontà. Dio mi farà vedere sui miei nemici quel che desidero.

11 S lay them not lest my people forget; scatter them by thy power and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

Non ucciderli, perché il mio popolo non dimentichi; falli andare, per la tua potenza, raminghi; e umiliali, o Signore, nostro scudo!

12 F or the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, let them even be taken in their pride; they shall be subject to weakness and to a curse.

Ogni parola che dicono è un peccato della loro bocca; siano dunque presi nel laccio della loro superbia, per le maledizioni e le menzogne che pronunciano.

13 C onsume them in wrath, consume them that they may not be and let them know that God rules in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

Distruggili nel tuo furore, distruggili e non siano più; e si conoscerà che Dio domina su Giacobbe fino all’estremità della terra.

14 A nd at evening let them return and let them bark like dogs and go round about outside the city.

Ogni sera ritornano, urlano come cani e si aggirano per la città.

15 L et them wander up and down for food and murmur if they are not satisfied.

Vanno vagando in cerca di cibo e se non trovano da sfamarsi, passano la notte ululando.

16 B ut I will sing of thy power; I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning, for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

Ma io canterò la tua potenza e al mattino loderò ad alta voce la tua bontà, perché tu sei stato per me una fortezza, un rifugio nel giorno dell’avversità.

17 U nto thee, O my strength, will I sing, for God is my defence and the God of my mercy.

O mia forza, a te salmeggerò, perché Dio è il mio rifugio, il Dio che mi fa del bene.
