Psalm 55 ~ Psalm 55

1 Give ear to my prayer, O God, and do not hide thyself from my supplication.

Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi Nekinoto. He Makiri, na Rawiri. E te Atua, tahuri mai tou taringa ki taku inoi: kei whakangaro atu koe, ina tangi ahau.

2 A ttend unto me and hear me: I mourn in my complaint and make a noise

Anga mai ki ahau, whakahokia mai he kupu ki ahau: pokaikaha noa iho ahau i ahau e tangi nei, e hamama nei;

3 b ecause of the voice of the enemy because of the oppression of the wicked; for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.

I te reo hoki o te hoariri, i te tukino a te tangata kino: no te mea e utaina ana e ratou he hara ki runga ki ahau, a e kino ana ki ahau, e riri ana.

4 M y heart is sore pained within me, and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.

Mamae pu toku ngakau i roto i ahau: kua taka ki runga ki ahau nga wehi whakamate.

5 F earfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me.

6 A nd I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then I would fly away and be at rest.

Na ko taku meatanga, Aue, te whai pakau ahau me he kukupa; penei ka rere atu ahau, a ka whai okiokinga.

7 B ehold, then I would flee far away and dwell in the wilderness. Selah.

(Hera.

8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

Ka hohoro toku rere atu i te hau, i te awha.

9 Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

10 D ay and night they go about it upon the walls thereof; iniquity also and sorrow are in the midst of it.

Haereere ana ratou i te ao, i te po, i runga i ona taiepa, a tawhio noa: he kino kei roto, he hianga.

11 W ickedness is in the midst thereof; deceit and guile depart not from her streets.

He hara kei waenganui ona: kahore ona ara e mahue i te tinihanga, i te hianga.

12 F or it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it, neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

Ehara hoki i te hoariri nana ahau i tawai; penei e taea e ahau te whakaririka: ehara hoki i te hoa whawhai noku i whakakake ki ahau; penei kua piri ahau, kei kitea e ia.

13 B ut it was thou, who in my estimation was, my lord, and of my own family.

14 W e took sweet counsel together and walked unto the house of God in company.

15 L et them be condemned unto death, and let them go down alive into Sheol for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.

16 As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me.

Ko ahau, ka karanga ahau ki te Atua: a ma Ihowa ahau e whakaora.

17 E vening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice.

18 H e has ransomed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, for there were many against me.

Whakaorangia ana e ia toku wairua i runga i te rangimarie i ahau e whakaekea ana: he tokomaha hoki oku hoa whawhai.

19 G od shall hear and bring them down, even he that abides from of old. Selah. Because they do not change, nor do they fear God.

Ka whakarongo te Atua, no tua iho nei tona nohoanga, a ka whakahoki i ta ratou. (Hera.)

20 H e has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him; he has defiled his covenant.

Kua totoro ona ringa ki te hunga kua mau nei ta ratou rongo ki a ia; kua whakataka e ia tana kawenata.

21 T he words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

Maeneene atu tona mangai i te pata, he whawhai ia kei roto i tona ngakau: ngawari atu ana kupu i te hinu, kahore, he hoari kua oti te unu.

22 C ast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Maka ki runga ki a Ihowa tau pikaunga, a mana koe e whakau ake: e kore e tukua e ia te hunga tika kia whakangaueuetia ake ake.

23 B ut thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of the grave; bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in thee.
