1 W hile Apollos was in the city of Corinth, Paul went through the hill country to get to the city of Ephesus. He found a few followers there.

Y ACONTECIO que entre tanto que Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, andadas las regiones superiores, vino á Efeso, y hallando ciertos discípulos,

2 H e asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you put your trust in Christ?” They said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Díjoles: ¿Habéis recibido el Espíritu Santo después que creísteis? Y ellos le dijeron: Antes ni aun hemos oído si hay Espíritu Santo.

3 H e asked them, “How were you baptized?” They answered, “The way John baptized.”

Entonces dijo: ¿En qué pues sois bautizados? Y ellos dijeron: En el bautismo de Juan.

4 P aul said, “John baptized those who were sorry for their sins and turned from them. He told the people to put their trust in Jesus Who was coming later.”

Y dijo Pablo: Juan bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, es á saber, en Jesús el Cristo.

5 T he people there were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus when they heard this.

Oído que hubieron esto, fueron bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús.

6 W hen Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them. They started to talk in special sounds and to speak God’s Word.

Y habiéndoles impuesto Pablo las manos, vino sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo; y hablaban en lenguas, y profetizaban.

7 T here were about twelve men. Paul Preaches in a Place of Worship and in a School in Ephesus

Y eran en todos como unos doce hombres.

8 F or three months Paul went into the Jewish place of worship and spoke without fear. He taught them things about the holy nation of God.

Y entrando él dentro de la sinagoga, hablaba libremente por espacio de tres meses, disputando y persuadiendo del reino de Dios.

9 S ome let their hearts grow hard. They would not put their trust in Christ. These spoke against the Christian religion in front of other people. Then Paul took the followers away from the others. He taught them each day in the school of Tyrannus.

Mas endureciéndose algunos y no creyendo, maldiciendo el Camino delante de la multitud, apartándose Pablo de ellos separó á los discípulos, disputando cada día en la escuela de un cierto Tyranno.

10 H e did this for two years. All the Jews and the Greeks in the countries of Asia heard the Word of the Lord. Paul Does Powerful Works

Y esto fué por espacio de dos años; de manera que todos los que habitaban en Asia, Judíos y Griegos, oyeron la palabra del Señor Jesús.

11 G od used Paul to do powerful special works.

Y hacía Dios singulares maravillas por manos de Pablo:

12 P ieces of cloth and parts of his clothes that had been next to his body were put on sick people. Then they were healed of their diseases and demons came out of them.

De tal manera que aun se llevaban sobre los enfermos los sudarios y los pañuelos de su cuerpo, y las enfermedades se iban de ellos, y los malos espíritus salían de ellos.

13 T here were Jews who went from city to city trying to put demons out of people. Some of these tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus on those who had demons. They said, “I speak to you in the name of Jesus, the One Paul preaches about.”

Y algunos de los Judíos, exorcistas vagabundos, tentaron á invocar el nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los que tenían espíritus malos, diciendo: Os conjuro por Jesús, el que Pablo predica.

14 A Jewish leader of the people by the name of Sceva had seven sons. These sons were trying to do this.

Y había siete hijos de un tal Sceva, Judío, príncipe de los sacerdotes, que hacían esto.

15 T he demon said, “I know Jesus. I know about Paul. But who are you?”

Y respondiendo el espíritu malo, dijo: A Jesús conozco y sé quién es Pablo: mas vosotros ¿quiénes sois?

16 T hen the man with the demon jumped on the sons. He had power over them and beat them. They ran out of the house with no clothes on and they were hurt.

Y el hombre en quien estaba el espíritu malo, saltando en ellos, y enseñoreándose de ellos, pudo más que ellos, de tal manera que huyeron de aquella casa desnudos y heridos.

17 A ll the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus heard about it. Because of this all the people became afraid. And the name of the Lord Jesus was held in great honor.

Y esto fué notorio á todos, así Judíos como Griegos, los que habitaban en Efeso: y cayó temor sobre todos ellos, y era ensalzado el nombre del Señor Jesús.

18 M any Christians came and told of the wrong things they were doing.

Y muchos de los que habían creído, venían, confesando y dando cuenta de sus hechos.

19 M any of those who did witchcraft gathered their books together and burned them in front of everyone. These books were worth 50, 000 pieces of silver money.

Asimismo muchos de los que habían practicado vanas artes, trajeron los libros, y los quemaron delante de todos; y echada la cuenta del precio de ellos, hallaron ser cincuenta mil denarios.

20 T he Word of the Lord became well-known.

Así crecía poderosamente la palabra del Señor, y prevalecía.

21 A fter this, Paul thought he would go through the countries of Macedonia and Greece. Then he would go to Jerusalem. He said, “After I have been there, I must go to the city of Rome also.”

Y acabadas estas cosas, se propuso Pablo en espíritu partir á Jerusalem, después de andada Macedonia y Acaya, diciendo: Después que hubiere estado allá me será menester ver también á Roma.

22 H e sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, to Macedonia. Paul stayed in the countries of Asia awhile longer. The Meeting of the Silver Workmen in Ephesus

Y enviando á Macedonia á dos de los que le ayudaban, Timoteo y Erasto, él se estuvo por algún tiempo en Asia.

23 D uring that time there was much trouble about the Christians.

Entonces hubo un alboroto no pequeño acerca del Camino.

24 A man named Demetrius made small silver buildings for the worship of Diana. His workmen received much money for their work.

Porque un platero llamado Demetrio, el cual hacía de plata templecillos de Diana, daba á los artífices no poca ganancia;

25 H e called his workmen together and other men who made these small silver buildings. He said to them, “Men, you know we make much money from this work.

A los cuales, reunidos con los oficiales de semejante oficio, dijo: Varones, sabéis que de este oficio tenemos ganancia;

26 N ow you hear that Paul has turned away many people in Ephesus as well as in Asia. He tells them that gods made with hands are not gods.

Y veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Efeso, sino á muchas gentes de casi toda el Asia, ha apartado con persuasión, diciendo, que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.

27 I t could be that our work will not be respected. Not only that, the house of worship for the god of Diana will be worth nothing and her greatness will be destroyed. All the countries of Asia and the world worship her.”

Y no solamente hay peligro de que este negocio se nos vuelva en reproche, sino también que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience á ser destruída su majestad, la cual honra toda el Asia y el mundo.

28 T hey became angry when they heard this and cried out, “Great is Diana of Ephesus.”

Oídas estas cosas, llenáronse de ira, y dieron alarido diciendo: ­Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

29 T he whole city was filled with loud cries. They caught Gaius and Aristarchus. These two men from Macedonia were with Paul. They gathered around them at the meeting place in the city.

Y la ciudad se llenó de confusión; y unánimes se arrojaron al teatro, arrebatando á Gayo y á Aristarco, Macedonios, compañeros de Pablo.

30 P aul wanted to stand in front of all the people but his followers would not let him.

Y queriendo Pablo salir al pueblo, los discípulos no le dejaron.

31 S ome of the city leaders who were his friends told him not to go to the meeting.

También algunos de los principales de Asia, que eran sus amigos, enviaron á él rogando que no se presentase en el teatro.

32 A ll this time some were crying out one thing and some another. The meeting was all noise. Most of the people did not know why they had come together.

Y otros gritaban otra cosa; porque la concurrencia estaba confusa, y los más no sabían por qué se habían juntado.

33 T hen the Jews pushed Alexander to the front. Alexander held his hand up and was going to speak.

Y sacaron de entre la multitud á Alejandro, empujándole los Judíos. Entonces Alejandro, pedido silencio con la mano, quería dar razón al pueblo.

34 A s soon as they saw he was a Jew, they cried out with a loud voice for two hours, “Great is Diana of Ephesus!”

Mas como conocieron que era Judío, fué hecha un voz de todos, que gritaron casi por dos horas: ­Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

35 O ne of the city leaders stopped the noise. He spoke, “Men of Ephesus, everyone knows our city is where the god of Diana is kept. That is the stone god that fell from the sky.

Entonces el escribano, apaciguado que hubo la gente, dijo: Varones Efesios ¿y quién hay de los hombres que no sepa que la ciudad de los Efesios es honradora de la gran diosa Diana, y de la imagen venida de Júpiter?

36 E veryone knows this is true, so you must not cry out or do anything foolish.

Así que, pues esto no puede ser contradicho, conviene que os apacigüéis, y que nada hagáis temerariamente;

37 T he men you brought here do not rob houses of worship or talk against our god.

Pues habéis traído á estos hombres, sin ser sacrílegos ni blasfemadores de vuestra diosa.

38 I f Demetrius and his workmen have something against anyone, we have special days for courts. Let them go to court.

Que si Demetrio y los oficiales que están con él tienen negocio con alguno, audiencias se hacen, y procónsules hay; acúsense los unos á los otros.

39 I f you want anything else, it should be done in another meeting.

Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítima asamblea se pueda decidir.

40 W e are in danger of being asked about this trouble today. There is no good reason we can give for this meeting.”

Porque peligro hay de que seamos argüidos de sedición por hoy, no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este concurso.

41 W hen he had said this, he told them to leave.

Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la concurrencia.
