1 A bijah became the king of Judah in the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam.

A LOS dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam, reinó Abías sobre Judá.

2 H e ruled for three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

Y reinó tres años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Michâía hija de Uriel de Gabaa. Y hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam.

3 A bijah began the battle with an army of powerful soldiers, 400, 000 chosen men. Jeroboam came ready for battle against him with 800, 000 chosen men who were powerful soldiers.

Entonces ordenó Abías batalla con un ejército de cuatrocientos mil hombres de guerra valerosos y escogidos: y Jeroboam ordenó batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos.

4 T hen Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Listen to me, Jeroboam and all Israel!

Y levantóse Abías sobre el monte de Semaraim, que es en los montes de Ephraim, y dijo: Oidme, Jeroboam y todo Israel.

5 D o you not know that the Lord God of Israel gave the rule over Israel forever to David and his sons by an agreement of salt?

¿No sabéis vosotros, que Jehová Dios de Israel dió el reino á David sobre Israel para siempre, á él y á sus hijos en alianza de sal?

6 B ut Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, went against his lord the king.

Pero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y rebeló contra su señor.

7 A nd men of no worth gathered around him. They were bad men who were too strong for Rehoboam the son of Solomon. Rehoboam was young and weak and could not stand against them.

Y se allegaron á el hombres vanos, hijos de iniquidad, y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era mozo y tierno de corazón, y no se defendió de ellos.

8 S o now you plan to stand against the power of the Lord through the sons of David. You think you can because you have many people and the gold calves Jeroboam made you for gods.

Y ahora vosotros tratáis de fortificaros contra el reino de Jehová en mano de los hijos de David, porque sois muchos, y tenéis con vosotros los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os hizo por dioses.

9 H ave you not driven out the religious leaders of the Lord, the sons of Aaron and the Levites? And have you not made religious leaders for yourselves like the people of other lands? Whoever comes to make himself holy with a young bull and seven rams becomes a religious leader of false gods.

¿No echasteis vosotros á los sacerdotes de Jehová, á los hijos de Aarón, y á los Levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes á la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga á consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?

10 B ut as for us, the Lord is our God. We have not left Him. The sons of Aaron are working for the Lord as religious leaders. And the Levites are doing their work.

Mas en cuanto á nosotros, Jehová es nuestro Dios, y no le hemos dejado: y los sacerdotes que ministran á Jehová son los hijos de Aarón, y los Levitas en la obra;

11 E very morning they give burnt gifts and burn special perfume to the Lord. The holy bread is set on the clean table. And the gold lamp-stand with its lamps is ready to light every evening. For we do the work of the Lord our God. But you have left Him.

Los cuales queman á Jehová los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y los perfumes aromáticos; y ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelero de oro con sus candilejas para que ardan cada tarde: porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza de Jehová nuestro Dios; mas vosotros le habéis dejado.

12 N ow see, God is with us at our head. His religious leaders are ready to blow the horns, to sound the call to battle against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the Lord God of your fathers. For you cannot win.”

Y he aquí Dios está con nosotros por cabeza, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas del júbilo para que suenen contra vosotros. Oh hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres, porque no os sucederá bien.

13 B ut Jeroboam had sent soldiers to come from behind. So Israel was in front of Judah, and soldiers were behind them also.

Pero Jeroboam hizo girar una emboscada para venir á ellos por la espalda: y estando así delante de ellos, la emboscada estaba á espaldas de Judá.

14 W hen Judah looked, they saw that the battle was both in front of them and behind them. So they cried to the Lord, and the religious leaders blew the horns.

Y como miró Judá, he aquí que tenía batalla delante y á las espaldas; por lo que clamaron á Jehová, y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas.

15 T hen the men of Judah sounded a war cry. And when they sounded the war cry, God began destroying Jeroboam and all Israel around Abijah and Judah.

Entonces los de Judá alzaron grita; y así que ellos alzaron grita, Dios desbarató á Jeroboam y á todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá:

16 T he men of Israel ran away from Judah. God gave them into their hand.

Y huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá, y Dios los entregó en sus manos.

17 A bijah and his people killed many of them. There were 500, 000 chosen men of Israel killed.

Y Abías y su gente hacían en ellos gran mortandad; y cayeron heridos de Israel quinientos mil hombres escogidos.

18 S o the sons of Israel were set back at that time. The sons of Judah were strong because they trusted in the Lord, the God of their fathers.

Así fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo: mas los hijos de Judá se fortificaron, porque se apoyaban en Jehová el Dios de sus padres.

19 A bijah went after Jeroboam. He took from him the cities of Bethel with its towns, Jeshanah with its towns, and Ephron with its towns.

Y siguió Abías á Jeroboam, y tomóle algunas ciudades, á Beth-el con sus aldeas, á Jesana con sus aldeas, y á Ephraim con sus aldeas.

20 J eroboam did not become strong again in the days of Abijah. And the Lord destroyed him, and he died.

Y nunca más tuvo Jeroboam poderío en los días de Abías: é hirióle Jehová, y murió.

21 B ut Abijah became very strong. He married fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

Empero se fortificó Abías; y tomó catorce mujeres, y engendró veintidós hijos, y dieciséis hijas.

22 N ow the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways and his words, are written in the story of Iddo the man of God.

Lo demás de los hechos de Abías, sus caminos y sus negocios, está escrito en la historia de Iddo profeta.
