1 P ero el Espíritu dice claramente que en los últimos tiempos algunos apostatarán de la fe, prestando atención a espíritus engañadores y a doctrinas de demonios,

But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,

2 m ediante la hipocresía de mentirosos que tienen cauterizada la conciencia;

through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;

3 p rohibiendo casarse y mandando abstenerse de alimentos que Dios ha creado para que con acción de gracias participen de ellos los que creen y que han conocido la verdad.

forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

4 P orque todo lo creado por Dios es bueno y nada se debe rechazar si se recibe con acción de gracias;

For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.

5 p orque es santificado mediante la palabra de Dios y la oración. El buen ministro de Cristo

For it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.

6 A l señalar estas cosas a los hermanos serás un buen ministro de Cristo Jesús, nutrido con las palabras de la fe y de la buena doctrina que has seguido.

If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

7 P ero nada tengas que ver con las fábulas profanas propias de viejas. Más bien disciplínate a ti mismo para la piedad;

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.

8 p orque el ejercicio físico aprovecha poco, pero la piedad es provechosa para todo, pues tiene promesa para la vida presente y también para la futura.

For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.

9 P alabra fiel es ésta, y digna de ser aceptada por todos.

This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.

10 P orque por esto trabajamos y nos esforzamos, porque hemos puesto nuestra esperanza en el Dios vivo, que es el Salvador de todos los hombres, especialmente de los creyentes.

For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

11 E sto manda y enseña.

Command and teach these things.

12 N o permitas que nadie menosprecie tu juventud; antes, sé ejemplo de los creyentes en palabra, conducta, amor, fe y pureza.

Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.

13 E ntretanto que llego, ocúpate en la lectura de las Escrituras, la exhortación y la enseñanza.

Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.

14 N o descuides el don espiritual que está en ti, que te fue conferido por medio de la profecía con la imposición de manos del presbiterio.

Don’t neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders.

15 R eflexiona sobre estas cosas; dedícate a ellas, para que tu aprovechamiento sea evidente a todos.

Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.

16 T en cuidado de ti mismo y de la enseñanza; persevera en estas cosas, porque haciéndolo asegurarás la salvación tanto para ti mismo como para los que te escuchan.

Pay attention to yourself, and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
