1 A sí dice el Señor: He aquí, levanto contra Babilonia y contra los habitantes de Leb Camay el espíritu de un destructor.

Yahweh says: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in Lebkamai, a destroying wind.

2 Y enviaré extranjeros a Babilonia que la aventarán y vaciarán su tierra; porque estarán contra ella por todos lados el día de su tribulación.

I will send to Babylon strangers, who shall winnow her; and they shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her around.

3 Q ue no entese el entesador su arco, ni se levante con su coraza; no perdonéis a sus jóvenes; entregad a la destrucción todo su ejército.

Against him who bends let the archer bend his bow, and against him who lifts himself up in his coat of mail: and don’t spare her young men; utterly destroy all her army.

4 C aerán muertos en la tierra de los caldeos, y traspasados en sus calles.

They shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.

5 P orque no ha sido abandonado Israel ni Judá por su Dios, el Señor de los ejércitos, aunque su tierra está llena de culpa delante del Santo de Israel.

For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his God, of Yahweh of Armies; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

6 H uid de en medio de Babilonia, y salve cada uno su vida. No perezcáis por su culpa, pues este es el tiempo de la venganza del Señor; El le dará su pago.

Flee out of the middle of Babylon, and save every man his life; don’t be cut off in her iniquity: for it is the time of Yahweh’s vengeance; he will render to her a recompense.

7 C opa de oro ha sido Babilonia en la mano del Señor, que embriagaba toda la tierra. De su vino bebieron las naciones; se enloquecieron, por tanto, las naciones.

Babylon has been a golden cup in Yahweh’s hand, who made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

8 D e repente cae Babilonia y se hace pedazos. Gemid por ella, traed bálsamo para su dolor; quizá se cure.

Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

9 Q uisimos curar a Babilonia, pero no ha sanado; dejadla, y vayamos cada cual a su tierra, porque ha llegado al cielo su juicio, se ha elevado hasta las nubes.

We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go everyone into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

10 E l Señor ha sacado a la luz nuestra justicia; venid y contemos en Sion la obra del Señor nuestro Dios.

Yahweh has produced our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of Yahweh our God.

11 A filad las flechas, llenad las aljabas; el Señor ha despertado el espíritu de los reyes de Media, porque su plan contra Babilonia es destruirla; porque esta es la venganza del Señor, la venganza de su templo.

Make sharp the arrows; hold firm the shields: Yahweh has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it: for it is the vengeance of Yahweh, the vengeance of his temple.

12 L evantad bandera contra los muros de Babilonia; reforzad la guardia, apostad centinelas, preparad emboscadas; porque el Señor ha decidido, y también ejecutará lo que habló acerca de los habitantes de Babilonia.

Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for Yahweh has both purposed and done that which he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 O h, tú, que moras junto a muchas aguas, rica en tesoros, ha llegado tu fin, el término de tu codicia.

You who dwell on many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your covetousness.

14 E l Señor de los ejércitos ha jurado por sí mismo: Ciertamente te llenaré de hombres como langostas, y entonarán contra ti gritos de victoria.

Yahweh of Armies has sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill you with men, as with the canker worm; and they shall lift up a shout against you.

15 E l es el que hizo la tierra con su poder, el que estableció el mundo con su sabiduría, y con su inteligencia extendió los cielos.

He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens:

16 C uando emite su voz, hay tumulto de aguas en los cielos, y hace subir las nubes desde los confines de la tierra. El produce los relámpagos para la lluvia, y saca el viento de sus depósitos.

when he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightning for the rain, and brings the wind out of his treasuries.

17 T oda la humanidad es necia, falta de conocimiento; se avergüenza todo orfebre de sus ídolos, porque sus imágenes fundidas son engaño, y no hay aliento en ellas.

Every man has become brutish without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

18 V anidad son, obra ridícula; en el tiempo de su castigo perecerán.

They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

19 N o es como estas cosas la porción de Jacob; porque El es el Hacedor de todo, y de la tribu de su heredad; el Señor de los ejércitos es su nombre.

The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and is the tribe of his inheritance: Yahweh of Armies is his name.

20 E l dice: Eres mi maza, mi arma de guerra; contigo destrozaré naciones, contigo destruiré reinos,

You are my battle ax and weapons of war: and with you will I break in pieces the nations; and with you will I destroy kingdoms;

21 c ontigo destrozaré el caballo y a su jinete, contigo destrozaré al carro y al que lo conduce,

and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider;

22 c ontigo destrozaré al hombre y a la mujer, contigo destrozaré al viejo y al joven, contigo destrozaré al mancebo y a la virgen,

and with you will I break in pieces the chariot and him who rides therein; and with you will I break in pieces man and woman; and with you will I break in pieces the old man and the youth; and with you will I break in pieces the young man and the virgin;

23 c ontigo destrozaré al pastor y su rebaño, contigo destrozaré al labrador y su yunta y contigo destrozaré a los gobernadores y a los magistrados.

and with you will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with you will I break in pieces the farmer and his yoke; and with you will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

24 Y pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los habitantes de Caldea todo el mal que han hecho en Sion delante de vuestros ojos —declara el Señor.

I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, says Yahweh.

25 H e aquí, yo estoy contra ti, monte destructor, que destruyes toda la tierra —declara el Señor. Extenderé mi mano contra ti, te haré rodar desde las peñas y te reduciré a monte quemado.

Behold, I am against you, destroying mountain, says Yahweh, which destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand on you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain.

26 Y no tomarán de ti piedra angular, ni piedra para cimientos, pues desolación eterna serás —declara el Señor.

They shall not take of you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate for ever, says Yahweh.

27 L evantad señal en la tierra, tocad trompeta entre las naciones. Reunid las naciones contra ella, convocad contra ella los reinos de Ararat, Mini y Asquenaz; nombrad contra ella capitán, haced subir caballos como langostas erizadas.

Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz: appoint a marshal against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough canker worm.

28 R eunid a las naciones contra ella, a los reyes de Media, a sus gobernadores, a todos sus magistrados y a toda la tierra de su dominio.

Prepare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, its governors, and all its deputies, and all the land of their dominion.

29 L a tierra tiembla y se retuerce, porque se cumplen los designios del Señor contra Babilonia de hacer de la tierra de Babilonia una desolación, sin habitantes.

The land trembles and is in pain; for the purposes of Yahweh against Babylon do stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.

30 H an dejado de luchar los valientes de Babilonia, permanecen en las fortalezas; se han agotado sus fuerzas, se han vuelto como mujeres; han sido incendiadas sus moradas, rotos están sus cerrojos.

The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might has failed; they are become as women: her dwelling places are set on fire; her bars are broken.

31 U n correo corre al encuentro de otro y un mensajero al encuentro de otro, para decirle al rey de Babilonia que su ciudad ha sido tomada de un extremo al otro;

One runner will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

32 t ambién los vados han sido ocupados, y quemados a fuego los juncos, y los guerreros están aterrados.

and the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are frightened.

33 P orque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: La hija de Babilonia es como una era al tiempo de ser hollada; dentro de poco, le llegará el tiempo de la siega.

For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her.

34 M e ha devorado y aplastado Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, me ha dejado como vaso vacío, me ha tragado como un monstruo, ha llenado su estómago de mis delicias, me ha expulsado.

Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has, like a monster, swallowed me up, he has filled his maw with my delicacies; he has cast me out.

35 C aiga sobre Babilonia la violencia hecha a mí y a mi carne —dirá la moradora de Sion. Caiga mi sangre sobre los habitantes de Caldea —dirá Jerusalén.

The violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, My blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

36 P or tanto, así dice el Señor: He aquí, yo defenderé tu causa, y ejecutaré tu venganza; secaré su mar y haré que se sequen sus manantiales.

Therefore Yahweh says: Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

37 Y Babilonia se convertirá en escombros, en guarida de chacales, en objeto de horror y de burla, sin habitantes.

Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

38 A una como leones rugirán, gruñirán como cachorros de león.

They shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions’ cubs.

39 C uando entren en calor, les serviré su banquete y los embriagaré, para que se diviertan, duerman un sueño eterno y no despierten —declara el Señor.

When they are heated, I will make their feast, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, says Yahweh.

40 L os haré bajar como corderos al matadero, como carneros y machos cabríos.

I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.

41 ¡ Cómo ha sido tomada Sesac, y arrebatada la gloria de toda la tierra! ¡Cómo se ha convertido Babilonia en objeto de horror entre las naciones!

How is Sheshach taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

42 E l mar ha subido sobre Babilonia; con la multitud de sus olas ha sido cubierta.

The sea has come up on Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of its waves.

43 S us ciudades se han convertido en desolación, en sequedal y yermo; una tierra en la cual nadie habita, y por la cual ningún hijo de hombre pasa.

Her cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land in which no man dwells, neither does any son of man pass thereby.

44 Y castigaré a Bel en Babilonia, sacaré de su boca lo que se ha tragado, y no afluirán más a él las naciones. Aun la muralla de Babilonia caerá.

I will execute judgment on Bel in Babylon, and I will bring out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more to him: yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

45 S alid de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salve cada uno su vida del ardor de la ira del Señor.

My people, go away from the middle of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of Yahweh.

46 Y que no desmaye vuestro corazón, ni temáis al rumor que se oirá en la tierra; porque el rumor vendrá un año, y después otro rumor en otro año, y habrá violencia en la tierra con gobernante contra gobernante.

Don’t let your heart faint, neither fear for the news that shall be heard in the land; for news shall come one year, and after that in another year shall come news, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

47 P or tanto, he aquí, vienen días en que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia; será avergonzada toda su tierra, y todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

Therefore behold, the days come, that I will execute judgment on the engraved images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be confounded; and all her slain shall fall in the middle of her.

48 E ntonces gritarán de gozo sobre Babilonia el cielo y la tierra y todo lo que en ellos hay, porque del norte vendrán a ella destructores —declara el Señor.

Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come to her from the north, says Yahweh.

49 C iertamente caerá Babilonia por los muertos de Israel, como también por Babilonia han caído los muertos de toda la tierra.

As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.

50 L os que escapasteis de la espada, partid, no os detengáis; acordaos desde lejos del Señor, y venga Jerusalén a vuestra memoria.

You who have escaped the sword, go, don’t stand still; remember Yahweh from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

51 E stamos avergonzados porque hemos oído la afrenta; la ignominia ha cubierto nuestros rostros, porque extranjeros han entrado en los santuarios de la casa del Señor.

We are confounded, because we have heard reproach; confusion has covered our faces: for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of Yahweh’s house.

52 P or tanto, he aquí, vienen días —declara el Señor — en que castigaré a sus ídolos, y por toda su tierra gemirán los heridos de muerte.

Therefore behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will execute judgment on her engraved images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

53 A unque Babilonia ascienda a los cielos, y aunque fortifique en lo alto su baluarte, de mi parte llegarán destructores a ella —declara el Señor.

Though Babylon should mount up to the sky, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall destroyers come to her, says Yahweh.

54 ¡ Clamor de gritos desde Babilonia, y de gran destrucción de la tierra de los caldeos!

The sound of a cry from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!

55 P orque el Señor destruirá a Babilonia, y hará desaparecer de ella su gran bullicio. Bramarán sus olas como muchas aguas; resonará el estruendo de sus voces.

For Yahweh lays Babylon waste, and destroys out of her the great voice; and their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is uttered:

56 P orque viene contra ella, contra Babilonia, el destructor, sus valientes serán apresados, quebrados están sus arcos; porque Dios de retribuciones es el Señor, ciertamente dará la paga.

for the destroyer has come on her, even on Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for Yahweh is a God of recompenses, he will surely requite.

57 Y o embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, a sus gobernantes, a sus magistrados y a sus valientes, y dormirán un sueño eterno y no despertarán —declara el Rey cuyo nombre es el Señor de los ejércitos.

I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors and her deputies, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake up, says the King, whose name is Yahweh of Armies.

58 A sí dice el Señor de los ejércitos: La ancha muralla de Babilonia será totalmente arrasada, y sus altas puertas quemadas; los pueblos habrán trabajado en vano, y las naciones sólo para el fuego se habrán fatigado.

Yahweh of Armies says: The wide walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.

59 M ensaje que el profeta Jeremías mandó a Seraías, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, cuando fue con Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia en el año cuarto de su reinado. (Seraías era jefe de abastecimientos.)

The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was chief quartermaster.

60 E scribió, pues, Jeremías en un solo rollo toda la calamidad que había de venir sobre Babilonia, es decir, todas estas palabras que han sido escritas acerca de Babilonia.

Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come on Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

61 Y Jeremías dijo a Seraías: Tan pronto llegues a Babilonia, lee en voz alta todas estas palabras,

Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When you come to Babylon, then see that you read all these words,

62 y di: “Oh Señor, tú has hablado acerca de este lugar, de destruirlo hasta que no quede morador en ella, ya sea hombre o animal, sino que desolación eterna será.”

and say, Yahweh, you have spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that no one shall dwell therein, neither man nor animal, but that it shall be desolate forever.

63 Y tan pronto termines de leer este rollo, le atarás una piedra y lo arrojarás en medio del Eufrates,

It shall be, when you have finished reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the middle of the Euphrates:

64 y dirás: “Así se hundirá Babilonia y no se levantará más, por la calamidad que traeré sobre ella; extenuados sucumbirán.” Hasta aquí las palabras de Jeremías.

and you shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring on her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
