1 P or lo cual, no pudiendo soportar lo más, pensamos que era mejor quedarnos solos en Atenas,

Therefore when we couldn’t stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,

2 y enviamos a Timoteo, nuestro hermano y colaborador de Dios en el evangelio de Cristo, para fortaleceros y alentaros respecto a vuestra fe;

and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the Good News of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith;

3 a fin de que nadie se inquiete por causa de estas aflicciones, porque vosotros mismos sabéis que para esto hemos sido destinados.

that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.

4 P orque en verdad, cuando estábamos con vosotros os predecíamos que íbamos a sufrir aflicción, y así ha acontecido, como sabéis.

For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.

5 P or eso también yo, cuando ya no pude soportar más, envié para informarme de vuestra fe, por temor a que el tentador os hubiera tentado y que nuestro trabajo resultara en vano.

For this cause I also, when I couldn’t stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.

6 P ero ahora Timoteo ha regresado de vosotros a nosotros, y nos ha traído buenas noticias de vuestra fe y amor y de que siempre tenéis buen recuerdo de nosotros, añorando vernos, como también nosotros a vosotros;

But when Timothy came just now to us from you, and brought us glad news of your faith and love, and that you have good memories of us always, longing to see us, even as we also long to see you;

7 p or eso, hermanos, en toda nuestra necesidad y aflicción fuimos consolados respecto a vosotros por medio de vuestra fe;

for this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith.

8 p orque ahora sí que vivimos, si vosotros estáis firmes en el Señor.

For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.

9 P ues ¿qué acción de gracias podemos dar a Dios por vosotros, por todo el gozo con que nos regocijamos delante de nuestro Dios a causa de vosotros,

For what thanksgiving can we render again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God;

10 s egún oramos intensamente de noche y de día que podamos ver vuestro rostro y que completemos lo que falta a vuestra fe? Exhortación a la santidad

night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

11 A hora, pues, que el mismo Dios y Padre nuestro, y Jesús nuestro Señor, dirijan nuestro camino a vosotros;

Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you;

12 y que el Señor os haga crecer y abundar en amor unos para con otros, y para con todos, como también nosotros lo hacemos para con vosotros;

and the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we also do toward you,

13 a fin de que El afirme vuestros corazones irreprensibles en santidad delante de nuestro Dios y Padre, en la venida de nuestro Señor Jesús con todos sus santos.

to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
