1 P rofecía que tuvo en visión el profeta Habacuc.

The revelation which Habakkuk the prophet saw.

2 ¿ Hasta cuándo, oh Señor, pediré ayuda, y no escucharás, clamaré a ti: ¡Violencia! y no salvarás ?

Yahweh, how long will I cry, and you will not hear? I cry out to you “Violence!” and will you not save?

3 ¿ Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad, y me haces mirar la opresión? La destrucción y la violencia están delante de mí, hay rencilla y surge discordia.

Why do you show me iniquity, and look at perversity? For destruction and violence are before me. There is strife, and contention rises up.

4 P or eso no se cumple la ley y nunca prevalece la justicia. Pues el impío asedia al justo; por eso sale pervertida la justicia.

Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails; for the wicked surround the righteous; therefore justice comes out perverted.

5 M irad entre las naciones, observad, asombraos, admiraos; porque haré una obra en vuestros días que no creeríais si se os contara.

“Look among the nations, watch, and wonder marvelously; for I am working a work in your days, which you will not believe though it is told you.

6 P orque he aquí, yo levanto a los caldeos, pueblo feroz e impetuoso, que marcha por la anchura de la tierra para apoderarse de moradas ajenas.

For, behold, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the width of the earth, to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.

7 I mponente y temible es; de él mismo proceden su justicia y su grandeza.

They are feared and dreaded. Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.

8 S us caballos son más veloces que leopardos y más astutos que lobos al anochecer. Al galope vienen sus jinetes, sus jinetes vienen de lejos, vuelan como águila que se precipita a devorar.

Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves. Their horsemen press proudly on. Yes, their horsemen come from afar. They fly as an eagle that hurries to devour.

10 S e mofa de los reyes, y los gobernantes le son motivo de risa; se ríe de toda fortaleza, amontona escombros para tomarla.

11 E ntonces pasará como el viento y seguirá, y se le tendrá por culpable, porque hace de su poder su dios.

Then he sweeps by like the wind, and goes on. He is indeed guilty, whose strength is his god.”

12 ¿ No eres tú desde la eternidad, oh Señor, Dios mío, Santo mío ? No moriremos. Oh Señor, para juicio lo has puesto; tú, oh Roca, lo has establecido para corrección.

Aren’t you from everlasting, Yahweh my God, my Holy One? We will not die. Yahweh, you have appointed him for judgment. You, Rock, have established him to punish.

13 M uy limpios son tus ojos para mirar el mal, y no puedes contemplar la opresión. ¿Por qué miras con agrado a los que proceden pérfidamente, y callas cuando el impío traga al que es más justo que él?

You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,

14 ¿ Por qué has hecho a los hombres como peces del mar, como reptiles que no tienen jefe?

and make men like the fish of the sea, like the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

15 A todos los saca con anzuelo el pueblo invasor, los arrastra con su red y los junta en su malla. Por eso se alegra y se regocija,

He takes up all of them with the hook. He catches them in his net, and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad.

16 p or eso ofrece sacrificio a su red y quema incienso a su malla, pues gracias a ellas su pesca es abundante, y suculenta su comida.

Therefore he sacrifices to his net, and burns incense to his dragnet, because by them his life is luxurious, and his food is good.

17 ¿ Vaciará, pues, su red y seguirá matando sin piedad a las naciones ?

Will he therefore continually empty his net, and kill the nations without mercy?
