1 P alabra que vino a Jeremías de parte del Señor en el año décimo de Sedequías, rey de Judá, que fue el año dieciocho de Nabucodonosor.

The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.

2 E n aquel tiempo el ejército del rey de Babilonia tenía sitiada a Jerusalén, y el profeta Jeremías estaba encerrado en el patio de la guardia, que estaba en la casa del rey de Judá,

Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem; and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

3 p orque Sedequías, rey de Judá, lo había encerrado, diciendo: ¿Por qué profetizas, diciendo: “Así dice el Señor: ‘He aquí, voy a entregar esta ciudad en manos del rey de Babilonia, y él la tomará;

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why do you prophesy, and say, Yahweh says, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

4 y Sedequías, rey de Judá, no escapará de la mano de los caldeos, sino que ciertamente será entregado en manos del rey de Babilonia que hablará con él cara a cara, y sus ojos verán sus ojos;

and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall see his eyes;

5 y él llevará a Sedequías a Babilonia, y allí estará hasta que yo lo visite’ —declara el Señor — ‘si peleáis contra los caldeos, no tendréis éxito ’”?

and he shall bring Zedekiah to Babylon, and he shall be there until I visit him, says Yahweh: though you fight with the Chaldeans, you shall not prosper?

6 Y Jeremías dijo: Vino a mí la palabra del Señor, diciendo:

Jeremiah said, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

7 “ He aquí, Hanameel, hijo de tu tío Salum, viene a ti, diciendo: ‘Cómprate el campo que tengo en Anatot, porque tú tienes el derecho de rescate para comprarlo.’”

Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, Buy my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.

8 Y vino a mí Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, al patio de la guardia conforme a la palabra del Señor, y me dijo: “Te ruego que compres el campo que tengo en Anatot, que está en la tierra de Benjamín, porque tú tienes el derecho de posesión y el rescate es tuyo; cómpralo para ti.” Entonces supe que esta era la palabra del Señor.

So Hanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to Yahweh’s word, and said to me, Please buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was Yahweh’s word.

9 Y compré a Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, el campo que estaba en Anatot, y le pesé la plata, diecisiete siclos de plata.

I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

10 F irmé la escritura y la sellé, llamé testigos y pesé la plata en la balanza.

I subscribed the deed, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

11 L uego tomé la escritura de compra, la copia sellada con los términos y condiciones, y también la copia abierta;

So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed, containing the terms and conditions, and that which was open;

12 y di la escritura de compra a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, en presencia de Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, en presencia de los testigos que firmaron la escritura de compra y en presencia de todos los judíos que se encontraban en el patio de la guardia.

and I delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses who subscribed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.

13 Y di orden a Baruc en presencia de ellos, diciendo:

I commanded Baruch before them, saying,

14 “ Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: ‘Toma estas escrituras, esta escritura de compra sellada y esta escritura abierta, y ponlas en una vasija de barro para que duren mucho tiempo.’

Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase which is sealed, and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel; that they may continue many days.

15 “ Porque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: ‘De nuevo se comprarán casas, campos y viñas en esta tierra.’”

For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: Houses and fields and vineyards shall yet again be bought in this land.

16 E ntonces oré al Señor, después de haber dado la escritura de compra a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, diciendo:

Now after I had delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to Yahweh, saying,

17 “ ¡Ah, Señor Dios! He aquí, tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra con tu gran poder y con tu brazo extendido; nada es imposible para ti,

Ah Lord Yahweh! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for you,

18 q ue muestras misericordia a millares, pero que castigas la iniquidad de los padres en sus hijos después de ellos, oh grande y poderoso Dios, el Señor de los ejércitos es su nombre;

who show loving kindness to thousands, and recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them; the great, the mighty God, Yahweh of Armies is his name;

19 g rande en consejo y poderoso en obras, cuyos ojos están abiertos sobre todos los caminos de los hijos de los hombres, para dar a cada uno conforme a sus caminos y conforme al fruto de sus obras.

great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

20 “ Tú realizaste señales y portentos en la tierra de Egipto hasta este día, y en Israel y entre los hombres, y te has hecho un nombre, como se ve hoy.

who performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, both in Israel and among other men; and made yourself a name, as it is today;

21 “ Y sacaste a tu pueblo Israel de la tierra de Egipto con señales y portentos, con mano fuerte y con brazo extendido y con gran terror,

and brought your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;

22 y les diste esta tierra, que habías jurado dar a sus padres, tierra que mana leche y miel.

and gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

23 “ Y ellos entraron y tomaron posesión de ella, pero no obedecieron tu voz ni anduvieron en tu ley; no hicieron nada de todo lo que les mandaste hacer; por tanto tú has hecho venir sobre ellos toda esta calamidad.

and they came in, and possessed it, but they didn’t obey your voice, neither walked in your law; they have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do: therefore you have caused all this evil to come upon them.

24 “ He aquí, los terraplenes de asalto han llegado a la ciudad para tomarla, y la ciudad va a ser entregada en manos de los caldeos que pelean contra ella, por causa de la espada, el hambre y la pestilencia; lo que habías hablado ha venido a ser, y he aquí, tú lo estás viendo.

Behold, the mounds, they have come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence; and what you have spoken has happened; and behold, you see it.

25 “ Y tú me has dicho, oh Señor Dios: ‘Cómprate el campo con dinero, y llama testigos’; aunque la ciudad sea entregada en manos de los caldeos.”

You have said to me, Lord Yahweh, Buy the field for money, and call witnesses; whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

26 E ntonces vino palabra del Señor a Jeremías, diciendo:

Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

27 H e aquí, yo soy el Señor, el Dios de toda carne, ¿habrá algo imposible para mí ?

Behold, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

28 P or tanto, así dice el Señor: He aquí, entregaré esta ciudad en mano de los caldeos y en mano de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y él la tomará.

Therefore Yahweh says: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:

29 Y entrarán los caldeos que atacan esta ciudad, prenderán fuego a la ciudad y la quemarán, junto con las casas en las que han ofrecido incienso a Baal sobre sus terrazas y han derramado libaciones a otros dioses para provocarme a ira.

and the Chaldeans, who fight against this city, shall come and set this city on fire, and burn it, with the houses, on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

30 P orque los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá sólo han hecho lo malo ante mis ojos desde su juventud; ciertamente los hijos de Israel no han hecho más que provocarme a ira con la obra de sus manos —declara el Señor.

For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done only that which was evil in my sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, says Yahweh.

31 P orque motivo de mi ira y de mi furor ha sido esta ciudad para mí, desde el día en que la edificaron hasta hoy, de modo que será quitada de mi presencia

For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

32 p or todo el mal que los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá hicieron para provocarme a ira, ellos, sus reyes, sus jefes, sus sacerdotes, sus profetas, los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén.

because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

33 E llos me dieron la espalda, y no el rostro; aunque les enseñaba, enseñándoles una y otra vez, no escucharon ni aceptaron corrección,

They have turned to me the back, and not the face: and though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.

34 s ino que pusieron sus abominaciones en la casa que es llamada por mi nombre, profanándola.

But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

35 Y edificaron los lugares altos de Baal que están en el valle de Ben-hinom, para hacer pasar por el fuego a sus hijos y a sus hijas en honor de Moloc, lo cual no les había mandado, ni me pasó por la mente que ellos cometieran esta abominación, para hacer que Judá pecara.

They built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through fire to Molech; which I didn’t command them, neither did it come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

36 A hora pues, así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel, en cuanto a esta ciudad de la cual vosotros decís: “Va a ser entregada en mano del rey de Babilonia por la espada, por el hambre y por la pestilencia.”

Now therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning this city, about which you say, It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence:

37 H e aquí, los reuniré de todas las tierras a las cuales los he echado en mi ira, en mi furor y con gran enojo, y los haré volver a este lugar y los haré morar seguros.

Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries, where I have driven them in my anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation; and I will bring them again to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:

38 E llos serán mi pueblo, y yo seré su Dios;

and they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

39 y les daré un solo corazón y un solo camino, para que me teman siempre, para bien de ellos y de sus hijos después de ellos.

and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and of their children after them:

40 H aré con ellos un pacto eterno, por el que no me apartaré de ellos, para hacerles bien, e infundiré mi temor en sus corazones para que no se aparten de mí.

and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me.

41 M e regocijaré en ellos haciéndoles bien, y ciertamente los plantaré en esta tierra, con todo mi corazón y con toda mi alma.

Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

42 P orque así dice el Señor: “Como he traído a este pueblo toda esta gran calamidad así he de traer sobre ellos todo el bien que les prometo.

For Yahweh says: Like as I have brought all this great evil on this people, so will I bring on them all the good that I have promised them.

43 “ Y se comprarán campos en esta tierra de la cual decís vosotros: ‘Es una desolación, sin hombres ni animales; entregada está en mano de los caldeos.’

Fields shall be bought in this land, about which you say, It is desolate, without man or animal; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

44 “ La gente comprará campos por dinero, firmarán y sellarán escrituras y llamarán a testigos, en la tierra de Benjamín, en los alrededores de Jerusalén, en las ciudades de Judá, en las ciudades de la región montañosa, en las ciudades de la llanura y en las ciudades del Neguev, porque restauraré su bienestar ” —declara el Señor.

Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe the deeds, and seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill country, and in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South: for I will cause their captivity to return, says Yahweh.
