1 P ero el Espíritu dice claramente que en los postreros tiempos algunos apostatarán de la fe, escuchando a espíritus engañadores y a doctrinas de demonios;

But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,

2 p or la hipocresía de mentirosos que, teniendo cauterizada la conciencia,

through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;

3 p rohibirán casarse, y mandarán abstenerse de alimentos que Dios creó para que con acción de gracias participasen de ellos los creyentes y los que han conocido la verdad.

forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

4 P orque todo lo que Dios creó es bueno, y nada es de desecharse, si se toma con acción de gracias;

For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.

5 p orque por la palabra de Dios y por la oración es santificado. Un buen ministro de Jesucristo

For it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.

6 S i esto enseñas a los hermanos, serás buen ministro de Jesucristo, nutrido con las palabras de la fe y de la buena doctrina que has seguido.

If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

7 D esecha las fábulas profanas y de viejas. Ejercítate para la piedad;

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.

8 p orque el ejercicio corporal para poco es provechoso, pero la piedad para todo aprovecha, pues tiene promesa de esta vida presente, y de la venidera.

For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.

9 P alabra fiel es esta, y digna de ser recibida por todos.

This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.

10 Q ue por esto mismo trabajamos y sufrimos oprobios, porque esperamos en el Dios viviente, que es el Salvador de todos los hombres, mayormente de los que creen.

For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

11 E sto manda y enseña.

Command and teach these things.

12 N inguno tenga en poco tu juventud, sino sé ejemplo de los creyentes en palabra, conducta, amor, espíritu, fe y pureza.

Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.

13 E ntre tanto que voy, ocúpate en la lectura, la exhortación y la enseñanza.

Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.

14 N o descuides el don que hay en ti, que te fue dado mediante profecía con la imposición de las manos del presbiterio.

Don’t neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders.

15 O cúpate en estas cosas; permanece en ellas, para que tu aprovechamiento sea manifiesto a todos.

Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.

16 T en cuidado de ti mismo y de la doctrina; persiste en ello, pues haciendo esto, te salvarás a ti mismo y a los que te oyeren.

Pay attention to yourself, and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
