1 К оли я говорю мовами людськими й ангольськими, та любови не маю, то став я як мідь та дзвінка або бубон гудячий!

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.

2 І коли маю дара пророкувати, і знаю всі таємниці й усе знання, і коли маю всю віру, щоб навіть гори переставляти, та любови не маю, то я ніщо!

And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3 І коли я роздам усі маєтки свої, і коли я віддам своє тіло на спалення, та любови не маю, то пожитку не матиму жадного!

And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Л юбов довготерпить, любов милосердствує, не заздрить, любов не величається, не надимається,

Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 н е поводиться нечемно, не шукає тільки свого, не рветься до гніву, не думає лихого,

doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh not account of evil;

6 н е радіє з неправди, але тішиться правдою,

rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth;

7 у се зносить, вірить у все, сподівається всього, усе терпить!

beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 Н іколи любов не перестає! Хоч пророцтва й існують, та припиняться, хоч мови існують, замовкнуть, хоч існує знання, та скасується.

Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall be done away; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall be done away.

9 Б о ми знаємо частинно, і пророкуємо частинно;

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;

10 к оли ж досконале настане, тоді зупиниться те, що частинне.

but when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.

11 К оли я дитиною був, то я говорив, як дитина, як дитина я думав, розумів, як дитина. Коли ж мужем я став, то відкинув дитяче.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things.

12 О тож, тепер бачимо ми ніби у дзеркалі, у загадці, але потім обличчям в обличчя; тепер розумію частинно, а потім пізнаю, як і пізнаний я.

For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known.

13 А тепер залишаються віра, надія, любов, оці три. А найбільша між ними любов!

But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
