1 ¶ Si yo hablara lenguas humanas y angélicas, y no tengo caridad, soy como metal que resuena, o címbalo que retiñe.

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.

2 Y si tuviera profecía, y entendiera todos los misterios y toda ciencia; y si tuviera toda la fe, de tal manera que traspasara los montes, y no tengo caridad, nada soy.

And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3 Y si repartiera toda mi hacienda para dar de comer a los pobres, y si entregara mi cuerpo para ser quemado, y no tengo caridad, de nada me sirve.

And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing.

4 ¶ La caridad es sufrida, es benigna; la caridad no tiene envidia, la caridad no hace sin razón, no se envanece;

Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 n o es injuriosa, no busca lo suyo, no se irrita, no piensa mal;

doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh not account of evil;

6 n o se recrea de la injusticia, mas se recrea de la verdad;

rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth;

7 t odo lo sufre, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta.

beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 ¶ La caridad nunca se pierde; mas las profecías se han de acabar, y cesarán las lenguas, y la ciencia ha de acabar;

Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall be done away; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall be done away.

9 p orque en parte conocemos, y en parte profetizamos;

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;

10 m as cuando venga lo que es perfecto, entonces lo que es en parte será quitado.

but when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.

11 C uando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, sabía como niño, mas cuando ya soy hombre hecho, quité lo que era de niño.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things.

12 A hora vemos como por espejo, en obscuridad; mas entonces veremos cara a cara; ahora conozco en parte; mas entonces conoceré como soy conocido.

For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known.

13 M as ahora permanecen la fe, la esperanza, y la caridad, estas tres cosas; pero la mayor de ellas es la caridad.

But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
