1 Y Joram hijo de Acab comenzó a reinar en Samaria sobre Israel el año dieciocho de Josafat rey de Judá; y reinó doce años.

Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

2 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, aunque no como su padre y su madre; porque quitó las estatuas de Baal que su padre había hecho.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, but not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.

3 M as se dio a los pecados de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar a Israel; y no se apartó de ellos.

Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

4 E ntonces Mesa rey de Moab era pastor, y pagaba al rey de Israel cien mil corderos y cien mil carneros con sus vellones.

Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-master; and he rendered unto the king of Israel the wool of a hundred thousand lambs, and of a hundred thousand rams.

5 M as muerto Acab, el rey de Moab se rebeló contra el rey de Israel.

But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

6 Y salió entonces de Samaria el rey Joram, y reconoció a todo Israel.

And king Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.

7 Y fue y envió a decir a Josafat rey de Judá: El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí; ¿irás tú conmigo a la guerra contra Moab? Y él respondió: Iré, porque como yo, así tú; como mi pueblo, así tu pueblo; como mis caballos, así también tus caballos.

And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

8 Y dijo: ¿Por qué camino iremos? Y él respondió: Por el camino del desierto de Idumea.

And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way of the wilderness of Edom.

9 P artieron, pues, el rey de Israel, el rey de Judá, y el rey de Idumea; y como anduvieron rodeando por el desierto siete días de camino, les faltó agua para el ejército, y para las bestias que los seguían.

So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, nor for the beasts that followed them.

10 E ntonces el rey de Israel dijo: ¡Ay! que ha llamado el SEÑOR estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los moabitas.

And the king of Israel said, Alas! for Jehovah hath called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

11 M as Josafat dijo: ¿No hay aquí profeta del SEÑOR, para que consultemos al SEÑOR por él? Y uno de los siervos del rey de Israel respondió y dijo: Aquí está Eliseo hijo de Safat, quien derramaba agua sobre las manos de Elías.

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah, that we may inquire of Jehovah by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.

12 Y Josafat dijo: Este tendrá palabra del SEÑOR. Y descendieron a él el rey de Israel, Josafat, y el rey de Idumea.

And Jehoshaphat said, The word of Jehovah is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13 E ntonces Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: ¿Qué tengo yo contigo? Ve a los profetas de tu padre, y a los profetas de tu madre. Y el rey de Israel le respondió: No; porque ha juntado el SEÑOR estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los moabitas.

And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay; for Jehovah hath called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

14 Y Eliseo dijo: Vive el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, que si no tuviera respeto al rostro de Josafat rey de Judá, no te miraría a ti, ni te vería.

And Elisha said, As Jehovah of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

15 M as ahora traedme un tañedor. Y mientras el tañedor tocaba, la mano del SEÑOR vino sobre él;

But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Jehovah came upon him.

16 y dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Haced en este valle muchas acequias.

And he said, Thus saith Jehovah, Make this valley full of trenches.

17 P orque el SEÑOR ha dicho así: No veréis viento, ni veréis lluvia, y este valle será lleno de agua, y beberéis vosotros, y vuestras bestias, y vuestros ganados.

For thus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, and ye shall drink, both ye and your cattle and your beasts.

18 Y esto es cosa ligera ante los ojos del SEÑOR; dará también a los moabitas en vuestras manos.

And this is but a light thing in the sight of Jehovah: he will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.

19 Y heriréis a toda ciudad fortalecida y a toda villa escogida, y talaréis todo buen árbol, y cegaréis todas las fuentes de aguas, y destruiréis con piedras toda tierra fértil.

And ye shall smite every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all fountains of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.

20 Y aconteció que por la mañana, cuando se ofrece el presente, he aquí vinieron aguas por el camino de Idumea, y la tierra fue llena de aguas.

And it came to pass in the morning, about the time of offering the oblation, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

21 Y todos los de Moab, cuando oyeron que los reyes subían a pelear contra ellos, se juntaron desde todos los que ceñían talabarte arriba, y se pusieron en la frontera.

Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all that were able to put on armor, and upward, and stood on the border.

22 Y cuando se levantaron por la mañana, y el sol salió sobre las aguas, vieron los de Moab delante de ellos las aguas bermejas como sangre;

And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water over against them as red as blood:

23 y dijeron: ¡Esto es sangre! Los reyes se han revuelto, y cada uno ha dado muerte a su compañero. Ahora pues, ¡Moab, a la presa!

and they said, This is blood; the kings are surely destroyed, and they have smitten each man his fellow: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

24 M as cuando llegaron al campamento de Israel, se levantaron los israelitas e hirieron a los de Moab, los cuales huyeron delante de ellos; y los hirieron de nuevo; y siguieron empero hiriendo todavía a los de Moab.

And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land smiting the Moabites.

25 Y asolaron las ciudades, y en todas las heredades fértiles echó cada uno su piedra, y las llenaron; taparon también todas las fuentes de las aguas, y derribaron todos los buenos árboles; hasta que en Kir-hareset solamente dejaron sus piedras; porque los honderos la cercaron, y la hirieron.

And they beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land they cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the fountains of water, and felled all the good trees, until in Kir-hareseth only they left the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

26 Y cuando el rey de Moab vio que la batalla lo vencía, tomó consigo setecientos varones que sacaban espada, para romper contra el rey de Idumea; mas no pudieron.

And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew sword, to break through unto the king of Edom; but they could not.

27 E ntonces arrebató a su primogénito que había de reinar en su lugar, y lo sacrificó en holocausto sobre el muro. Y hubo grande enojo en Israel; y se retiraron de él, y se volvieron a su tierra.

Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt-offering upon the wall. And there was great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
