1 D e veinticinco años era Amasías cuando comenzó a reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén; el nombre de su madre fue Joadán, de Jerusalén.

Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddan, of Jerusalem.

2 H izo él lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR aunque no de perfecto corazón.

And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, but not with a perfect heart.

3 P orque cuando fue confirmado en el reino, mató a sus siervos, los que habían dado muerte al rey su padre;

Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established unto him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.

4 m as no mató a los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la ley en el libro de Moisés, donde el SEÑOR mandó, diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.

But he put not their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.

5 J untó luego Amasías a Judá, y les puso tribunos y centuriones según las casas de sus padres por todo Judá y Benjamín; y los tomó por lista a todos los de veinte años para arriba; y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir a la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo.

Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and ordered them according to their fathers' houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.

6 Y de Israel tomó a sueldo cien mil hombres valientes, por cien talentos de plata.

He hired also a hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for a hundred talents of silver.

7 M as un varón de Dios vino a él, y le dijo: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque el SEÑOR no está con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Efraín.

But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for Jehovah is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.

8 P ero si tú vas, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, o para ayudar, o para derribar.

But if thou wilt go, do valiantly, be strong for the battle: God will cast thee down before the enemy; for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

9 Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: Del SEÑOR es darte mucho más que esto.

And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, Jehovah is able to give thee much more than this.

10 E ntonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido a él de Efraín, para que se fueran a sus casas; y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volvieron a sus casas encolerizados.

Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.

11 E sforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal; e hirió de los hijos de Seir diez mil.

And Amaziah took courage, and led forth his people, and went to the Valley of Salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.

12 Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron a la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.

And other ten thousand did the children of Judah carry away alive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.

13 P ero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, para que no fueran con él a la guerra, se derramaron sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Bet-horón, e hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un gran despojo.

But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote of them three thousand, and took much spoil.

14 ¶ Y cuando Amasías volvió de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y los puso para sí por dioses, y se encorvó delante de ellos, y les quemó incienso.

Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

15 Y el furor del SEÑOR se encendió contra Amasías, y envió a él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de un pueblo, que no libraron a su pueblo de tus manos?

Wherefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, who said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of thy hand?

16 Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Te han puesto a ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso, ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no escuchaste mi consejo.

And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Have we made thee of the king's counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

17 ¶ Y Amasías rey de Judá, después de tomar consejo, envió a decir a Joás, hijo de Joacaz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara a cara.

Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

18 E ntonces Joás rey de Israel envió a decir a Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija a mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo.

And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle.

19 T ú dices: He aquí he herido a Edom; y con esto tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte; ahora estate en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?

Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten Edom; and thy heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

20 M as Amasías no quiso oír; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

But Amaziah would not hear; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom.

21 S ubió, pues, Joás rey de Israel, y se vieron cara a cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Bet-semes, la cual es de Judá.

So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

22 P ero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno a su estancia.

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

23 Y Joás rey de Israel prendió en Bet-semes a Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joás hijo de Joacaz, y lo llevó a Jerusalén; y derribó el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta del ángulo, cuatrocientos codos.

And Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

24 A simismo tomó todo el oro y la plata, y todos los vasos que se hallaron en la Casa de Dios con Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los príncipes, y volvió a Samaria.

And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

25 Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel.

And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

26 L os demás hechos de Amasías, primeros y postreros, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

27 D esde aquel tiempo que Amasías se apartó del SEÑOR, maquinaron contra él conjuración en Jerusalén; y habiendo él huido a Laquis, enviaron tras él a Laquis, y allá lo mataron;

Now from the time that Amaziah did turn away from following Jehovah they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

28 Y lo trajeron en caballos, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.

And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
