1 ¶ También digo: Entre tanto que el heredero es niño, en nada difiere del siervo, aunque es el señor de todo;

But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he differeth nothing from a bondservant though he is lord of all;

2 p ero está bajo la mano de tutores y administradores hasta el tiempo señalado por el padre.

but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed of the father.

3 A sí también nosotros, cuando éramos niños, éramos siervos bajo los elementos del mundo.

So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the rudiments of the world:

4 M as venido el cumplimiento del tiempo, Dios envió su Hijo, nacido de mujer, nacido súbdito de la ley,

but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

5 p ara que redimiera a los que estaban bajo la ley, a fin de que recibiéramos la adopción de hijos.

that he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 Y por cuanto sois hijos, Dios envió el Espíritu de su Hijo en vuestros corazones, el cual clama: Abba, Padre.

And because ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

7 A sí que ya no eres más siervo, sino hijo, y si hijo, también heredero de Dios por Cristo.

So that thou art no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

8 ¶ Antes, en otro tiempo, no conociendo a Dios, servíais a los que por naturaleza no son dioses;

Howbeit at that time, not knowing God, ye were in bondage to them that by nature are no gods:

9 m as ahora, habiendo conocido a Dios, o más bien, siendo conocidos de Dios, ¿cómo os volvéis de nuevo a los débiles y pobres elementos, en los cuales queréis volver a servir?

but now that ye have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how turn ye back again to the weak and beggarly rudiments, whereunto ye desire to be in bondage over again?

10 G uardáis días, y meses, y tiempos, y años.

Ye observe days, and months, and seasons, and years.

11 T emo por vosotros, que haya trabajado en vano en vosotros.

I am afraid of you, lest by any means I have bestowed labor upon you in vain.

12 ¶ Hermanos, os ruego, sed como yo, porque yo soy como vosotros; ningún agravio me habéis hecho.

I beseech you, brethren, become as I am, for I also am become as ye are. Ye did me no wrong:

13 Q ue vosotros sabéis que por flaqueza de carne os anuncié el Evangelio al principio;

but ye know that because of an infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you the first time:

14 y no desechasteis ni menospreciasteis mi aflicción que estaba en mi carne; antes me recibisteis como a un ángel de Dios, como al mismo Cristo Jesús.

and that which was a temptation to you in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but ye received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

15 ¿ Dónde está pues vuestra bienaventuranza? Porque yo os doy testimonio que si se pudiera hacer, os hubierais sacado vuestros ojos para dármelos.

Where then is that gratulation of yourselves? for I bear you witness, that, if possible, ye would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.

16 ¿ Me he hecho, pues, vuestro enemigo, diciéndoos la verdad?

So then am I become your enemy, by telling you the truth?

17 ¶ Tienen celos de vosotros, pero no para bien; antes os quieren echar fuera para que vosotros los celéis a ellos.

They zealously seek you in no good way; nay, they desire to shut you out, that ye may seek them.

18 B ueno es ser celosos en bien siempre; y no solamente cuando estoy presente con vosotros.

But it is good to be zealously sought in a good matter at all times, and not only when I am present with you.

19 ¶ Hijitos míos, que vuelvo otra vez a estar de parto de vosotros, hasta que Cristo sea formado en vosotros;

My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you--

20 q uerría cierto estar ahora con vosotros, y mudar mi voz; porque estoy avergonzado de vosotros.

but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone; for I am perplexed about you.

21 ¶ Decidme, los que queréis estar bajo la ley, ¿no habéis oído la ley?

Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?

22 P orque escrito está que Abraham tuvo dos hijos; uno de la sierva, el otro de la libre.

For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the freewoman.

23 M as el de la sierva nació según la carne; pero el de la libre nació por la promesa.

Howbeit the son by the handmaid is born after the flesh; but the son by the freewoman is born through promise.

24 L as cuales cosas son dichas por alegoría, porque estas mujeres son los dos pactos; el uno ciertamente del monte Sinaí, el cual engendró para servidumbre, que es Agar.

Which things contain an allegory: for these women are two covenants; one from mount Sinai, bearing children unto bondage, which is Hagar.

25 P orque Agar o Sinaí es un monte de Arabia, el cual corresponde a la que ahora es Jerusalén, la cual junto con sus hijos está en esclavitud.

Now this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia and answereth to the Jerusalem that now is: for she is in bondage with her children.

26 M as la Jerusalén de arriba, libre es; la cual es madre de todos nosotros.

But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is our mother.

27 P orque está escrito: Alégrate, la estéril, que no das a luz; Prorrumpe en alabanzas y clama, la que no estás de parto; Porque más son los hijos de la dejada, que de la que tiene marido.

For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; Break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: For more are the children of the desolate than of her that hath the husband.

28 A sí que, hermanos, nosotros como Isaac, somos hijos de la promesa.

Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

29 P ero como entonces el que era engendrado según la carne, perseguía al que había nacido según el Espíritu, así también ahora.

But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, so also it is now.

30 M as ¿qué dice la Escritura? Echa fuera a la sierva y a su hijo; porque no será heredero el hijo de la sierva con el hijo de la libre.

Howbeit what saith the scripture? Cast out the handmaid and her son: for the son of the handmaid shall not inherit with the son of the freewoman.

31 D e manera, hermanos, que no somos hijos de la sierva, sino de la libre.

Wherefore, brethren, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the freewoman.
