1 Я ків, раб Бога й Господа Ісуса Христа, дванадцятьом племенам, які в Розпорошенні, вітаю я вас!

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.

2 М айте, брати мої, повну радість, коли впадаєте в усілякі випробовування,

Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;

3 з наючи, що досвідчення вашої віри дає терпеливість.

Knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.

4 А терпеливість нехай має чин досконалий, щоб ви досконалі та бездоганні були, і недостачі ні в чому не мали.

And let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.

5 А якщо кому з вас не стачає мудрости, нехай просить від Бога, що всім дає просто, та не докоряє, і буде вона йому дана.

But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 А ле нехай просить із вірою, без жадного сумніву. Бо хто має сумнів, той подібний до морської хвилі, яку жене й кидає вітер.

But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.

7 Н ехай бо така людина не гадає, що дістане що від Господа.

For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;

8 Д воєдушна людина непостійна на всіх дорогах своїх.

a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.

9 А понижений брат нехай хвалиться високістю своєю,

But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:

10 а багатий пониженням своїм, бо він промине, як той цвіт трав'яний,

and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 б о сонце зійшло зо спекотою, і траву посушило, і відпав цвіт її, і зникла краса її виду... Так само зів'яне й багатий у дорогах своїх!

For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass: and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.

12 Б лаженна людина, що витерпить пробу, бо, бувши випробувана, дістане вінця життя, якого Господь обіцяв тим, хто любить Його.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.

13 В ипробовуваний, хай не каже ніхто: Я від Бога спокушуваний. Бо Бог злом не спокушується, і нікого Він Сам не спокушує.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man:

14 А ле кожен спокушується, як надиться й зводиться пожадливістю власною.

but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

15 П ожадливість потому, зачавши, народжує гріх, а зроблений гріх народжує смерть.

Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.

16 Н е обманюйтесь, брати мої любі!

Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.

17 У сяке добре давання та дар досконалий походить згори від Отця світил, що в Нього нема переміни чи тіні відміни.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.

18 З ахотівши, Він нас породив словом правди, щоб ми стали якимсь первопочином творів Його.

Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

19 О тож, мої брати любі, нехай буде кожна людина швидка послухати, забарна говорити, повільна на гнів.

Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 Б о гнів людський не чинить правди Божої.

for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 Т ому то відкиньте всіляку нечисть та залишок злоби, і прийміть із лагідністю всіяне слово, що може спасти ваші душі.

Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 Б удьте ж виконавцями слова, а не слухачами самими, що себе самих обманюють.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.

23 Б о хто слухач слова, а не виконавець, той подібний людині, що риси обличчя свого розглядає у дзеркалі,

For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:

24 б о розгляне себе та й відійде, і зараз забуде, яка вона є.

for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25 А хто заглядає в закон досконалий, закон волі, і в нім пробуває, той не буде забудько слухач, але виконавець діла, і він буде блаженний у діянні своїм!

But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.

26 К оли ж хто гадає, що він побожний, і свого язика не вгамовує, та своє серце обманює, марна побожність того!

If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man's religion is vain.

27 Ч иста й непорочна побожність перед Богом і Отцем оця: зглянутися над сиротами та вдовицями в утисках їхніх, себе берегти чистим від світу.

Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
