1 ¶ Pablo y Timoteo, siervos de Jesús el Cristo, a todos los santos en Cristo Jesús que están en Filipos con los obispos y diáconos:

This letter is from Paul and Timothy. We are servants owned by Jesus Christ. This letter is to all who belong to Christ Jesus who are living in the city of Philippi and to the church leaders and their helpers also.

2 G racia y paz tengáis de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesús el Cristo.

May you have loving-favor and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul Gives Thanks For the True Christians

3 ¶ Doy gracias a mi Dios en toda memoria de vosotros,

I thank God for you whenever I think of you.

4 s iempre en todas mis oraciones haciendo oración por todos vosotros con gozo,

I always have joy as I pray for all of you.

5 p or vuestra comunión en el Evangelio, desde el primer día hasta ahora.

It is because you have told others the Good News from the first day you heard it until now.

6 C onfiando de esto: que el que comenzó en vosotros la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Jesús el Cristo;

I am sure that God Who began the good work in you will keep on working in you until the day Jesus Christ comes again.

7 ¶ como me es justo sentir esto de todos vosotros, por cuanto os tengo en el corazón; y en mis prisiones, y en la defensa y confirmación del Evangelio, sois todos vosotros compañeros de mi gracia.

It is right for me to feel like this about all of you. It is because you are very dear to me. While I was in prison and when I was proving that the Good News is true, you all shared God’s loving-favor with me.

8 P orque Dios me es testigo de cómo os quiero a todos vosotros en las entrañas de Jesús el Cristo.

God knows what I am saying. He knows how much I love you all with a love that comes from Jesus Christ.

9 ¶ Y esto oro: que vuestra caridad abunde aún más y más en ciencia y en toda percepción,

And this is my prayer: I pray that your love will grow more and more. I pray that you will have better understanding and be wise in all things.

10 p ara que aprobéis lo mejor; que seáis sinceros y sin ofensa para el día del Cristo;

I pray that you will know what is the very best. I pray that you will be true and without blame until the day Christ comes again.

11 l lenos de fruto de justicia, que son por Jesús el Cristo, a gloria y loor de Dios.

And I pray that you will be filled with the fruits of right living. These come from Jesus Christ, with honor and thanks to God. Paul’s Being in Prison Has Turned Out to Be a Good Thing

12 ¶ Y quiero, hermanos, que sepáis que las cosas que me han sucedido, han redundado más en provecho del Evangelio;

Christian brothers, I want you to know that what has happened to me has helped spread the Good News.

13 d e manera que mis prisiones han sido célebres en Cristo en todo el pretorio, y en todos los demás lugares;

Everyone around here knows why I am in prison. It is because I preached about Jesus Christ. All the soldiers who work for the leader of the country know why I am here.

14 y muchos de los hermanos, tomando ánimo con mis prisiones, se atreven mucho más a hablar la palabra de Dios sin temor.

Because of this, most of my Christian brothers have had their faith in the Lord made stronger. They have more power to preach the Word of God without fear.

15 Y algunos, a la verdad, predican al Cristo por envidia y porfía; mas otros también por buena voluntad.

Some are preaching because they are jealous and want to make trouble. Others are doing it for the right reason.

16 L os unos anuncian al Cristo por contención, no sinceramente, pensando añadir tribulación a mis prisiones;

These do it because of love. They know that I am put here to prove the Good News is true.

17 p ero los otros por caridad, sabiendo que soy puesto en ellas por la defensa del Evangelio.

The others preach about Christ for what they get out of it. Their hearts are not right. They want to make me suffer while I am in prison.

18 ¿ Qué pues? Que no obstante, en todas maneras, o por pretexto o por verdad, es anunciado el Cristo; y en esto también me gozo, y aun me gozaré.

What difference does it make if they pretend or if they are true? I am happy, yes, and I will keep on being happy that Christ is preached.

19 P orque sé que esto se me tornará en salud, por vuestra oración, y por la alimentación del Espíritu de Jesús el Cristo;

Because of your prayers and the help the Holy Spirit gives me, all of this will turn out for good.

20 c onforme a mi deseo y esperanza, que en nada seré avergonzado; antes bien con toda confianza, como siempre, ahora también será engrandecido el Cristo en mi cuerpo, o por vida, o por muerte.

I hope very much that I will have no reason to be ashamed. I hope to honor Christ with my body if it be by my life or by my death. I want to honor Him without fear, now and always.

21 ¶ Porque para mí el vivir es Cristo y el morir, ganancia.

To me, living means having Christ. To die means that I would have more of Him.

22 M as si viviere en la carne, esto me será para fruto de la obra, (y no sé entonces qué escoger;

If I keep on living here in this body, it means that I can lead more people to Christ. I do not know which is better.

23 p orque de ambas cosas estoy puesto en estrecho) teniendo deseo de ser desatado, y estar con Cristo, lo cual es mucho mejor;

There is a strong pull from both sides. I have a desire to leave this world to be with Christ, which is much better.

24 p ero quedar en la carne es más necesario por causa de vosotros.

But it is more important for you that I stay.

25 Y confiado en esto, sé que quedaré, que aún permaneceré con todos vosotros, para provecho vuestro y gozo de la fe;

I am sure I will live to help you grow and be happy in your faith.

26 p ara que puedan gloriarsen más en Cristo Jesús por mi venida otra vez a vosotros.

This will give you reason to give more thanks to Christ Jesus when I come to visit you again. Fight for the Faith

27 ¶ Solamente que converséis como es digno del Evangelio del Cristo; para que, o sea que vaya a veros, o que esté ausente, oiga de vosotros que estáis firmes en un mismo espíritu, unánimes obrando juntamente por la fe del Evangelio,

Live your lives as the Good News of Christ says you should. If I come to you or not, I want to hear that you are standing true as one. I want to hear that you are working together as one, preaching the Good News.

28 y en nada intimidados de los que se oponen; que a ellos ciertamente es indicio de perdición, mas a vosotros de salud; y esto de Dios;

Do not be afraid of those who hate you. Their hate for you proves they will be destroyed. It proves you have life from God that lasts forever.

29 p orque a vosotros es concedido acerca de Cristo, no sólo que creáis en él, sino también que padezcáis por él,

You are not only to put your trust in Him, but you are to suffer for Him also.

30 T eniendo el mismo conflicto que habéis visto en mí, y ahora oís estar en mí.

You know what the fight is like. Now it is time for you to have a part in it as I have.
