1 ¶ La respuesta suave quita la ira; mas la palabra áspera hace subir el furor.

A gentle answer turns away anger, but a sharp word causes anger.

2 ¶ La lengua de los sabios adornará la sabiduría; mas la boca de los locos hablará locura.

The tongue of the wise uses much learning in a good way, but the mouth of fools speaks in a foolish way.

3 ¶ Los ojos del SEÑOR están en todo lugar, mirando a los malos y a los buenos.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the bad and the good.

4 ¶ La sana lengua es árbol de vida; mas la perversidad en ella es una brecha en el espíritu.

A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but a sinful tongue crushes the spirit.

5 ¶ El loco menosprecia el castigo de su padre; mas el que guarda la corrección, saldrá prudente.

A fool turns away from the strong teaching of his father, but he who remembers the strong words spoken to him is wise.

6 ¶ En la casa del justo hay gran provisión; pero turbación en los frutos del impío.

Great riches are in the house of those who are right with God, but trouble is what the sinful will receive.

7 ¶ Los labios de los sabios esparcen sabiduría; mas no así el corazón de los locos.

The lips of the wise spread much learning, but the minds of fools do not.

8 ¶ El sacrificio de los impíos es abominación al SEÑOR; mas la oración de los rectos es su gozo.

The Lord hates the gifts of the sinful, but the prayer of the faithful is His joy.

9 ¶ Abominación es al SEÑOR el camino del impío; mas él ama al que sigue justicia.

The Lord hates the way of the sinful, but He loves him who follows what is right and good.

10 ¶ El castigo es molesto al que deja el camino; mas el que aborreciere la corrección, morirá.

He who turns from the right way will be punished. He who hates strong words spoken to him will die.

11 ¶ El Seol y el infierno están delante del SEÑOR; ¡cuánto más los corazones de los hombres!

The world of the dead lies open before the Lord. How much more the hearts of men!

12 ¶ El burlador no ama al que le corrige; ni se junta con los sabios.

A man who laughs at the truth has no love for the one who speaks strong words to him. He will not go to the wise.

13 ¶ El corazón alegre hermosea el rostro; mas por el dolor del corazón el espíritu se abate.

A glad heart makes a happy face, but when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken.

14 ¶ El corazón entendido busca la sabiduría; mas la boca de los locos se alimenta de locura.

The mind of him who has understanding looks for much learning, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolish ways.

15 ¶ Todos los días del pobre son trabajosos; mas el de buen corazón tiene un convite continuo.

All the days of the suffering are hard, but a glad heart has a special supper all the time.

16 ¶ Mejor es lo poco con el temor del SEÑOR, que el gran tesoro donde hay turbación.

A little with the fear of the Lord is better than great riches with trouble.

17 M ejor es la comida de legumbres donde hay amor, que de buey engordado donde hay odio.

A dish of vegetables with love is better than eating the best meat with hate.

18 ¶ El hombre iracundo revolverá contiendas; mas el que tarde se enoja, apaciguará la rencilla.

A man with a bad temper starts fights, but he who is slow to anger quiets fighting.

19 ¶ El camino del perezoso es como seto de espinos; mas la vereda de los rectos como una calzada.

The path of the lazy man is grown over with thorns, but the path of the faithful is a good road.

20 ¶ El hijo sabio alegra al padre; mas el hombre loco menosprecia a su madre.

A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man hates his mother.

21 ¶ La locura es alegría al falto de entendimiento; mas el hombre inteligente enderezará su caminar.

A foolish way is joy to him who has no wisdom, but a man of understanding walks straight.

22 ¶ Los pensamientos son frustrados donde no hay consejo; mas en la multitud de consejeros se afirman.

Plans go wrong without talking together, but they will go well when many wise men talk about what to do.

23 ¶ El hombre se alegra con la respuesta de su boca; y la palabra a su tiempo, ¡cuán buena es!

To give a good answer is a joy to a man, and how pleasing is a word given at the right time!

24 ¶ El camino de la vida es cuesta arriba al entendido, para apartarse del Seol abajo.

The path of life leads up for the wise, so he may keep away from hell below.

25 ¶ El SEÑOR asolará la casa de los soberbios; mas él afirmará la heredad de la viuda.

The Lord will tear down the house of the proud, but He will make a place for the woman whose husband has died.

26 ¶ Abominación son al SEÑOR los pensamientos del malo; mas el hablar de los limpios es limpio.

The Lord hates the plans of the sinful, but the words of the pure are pleasing to Him.

27 ¶ Alborota su casa el codicioso; mas el que aborrece las dádivas vivirá.

He who gets things by doing wrong brings trouble to his family, but he who will not be paid in secret for wrong-doing will live.

28 ¶ El corazón del justo piensa para responder; mas la boca de los impíos derrama malas cosas.

The mind of the one who is right with God thinks about how to answer, but the mouth of the sinful pours out sinful things.

29 ¶ Lejos está el SEÑOR de los impíos; mas él oye la oración de los justos.

The Lord is far from the sinful, but He hears the prayer of those who are right with Him.

30 ¶ La luz de los ojos alegra el corazón; y la buena fama engorda los huesos.

The light of the eyes makes the heart glad. Good news puts fat on the bones.

31 ¶ La oreja que escucha la corrección de vida, entre los sabios morará.

He whose ear listens to careful words spoken will live among the wise.

32 ¶ El que tiene en poco el castigo, menosprecia su alma; mas el que escucha la corrección, tiene corazón entendido.

He who does not listen to strong teaching hates himself, but he who listens when strong words are spoken gets understanding.

33 ¶ El temor del SEÑOR es enseñanza de sabiduría; y delante de la honra está la humildad.

The fear of the Lord is the teaching for wisdom, and having no pride comes before honor.
