1 P asadas estas cosas, en el reinado de Artajerjes rey de Persia, Esdras, hijo de Seraías, hijo de Azarías, hijo de Hilcías,

Now after this, during the rule of King Artaxerxes of Persia, Ezra went up from Babylon. Ezra was the son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

2 h ijo de Salum, hijo de Sadoc, hijo de Ahitob,

son of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub,

3 h ijo de Amarías, hijo de Azarías, hijo de Meraiot,

son of Amariah, son of Azariah, son of Meraioth,

4 h ijo de Zeraías, hijo de Uzi, hijo de Buqui,

son of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,

5 h ijo de Abisúa, hijo de Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, primer sacerdote.

son of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the head religious leader.

6 E ste Esdras subió de Babilonia, el cual era escriba diligente en la ley de Moisés, que dio el SEÑOR Dios de Israel; y le concedió el rey, según la mano del SEÑOR su Dios sobre él, todo lo que pidió.

This Ezra went up from Babylon. He was a writer who knew well the Law of Moses which the Lord God of Israel had given. The king gave him everything he asked for, because the Lord his God was good to him.

7 Y subieron con él a Jerusalén de los hijos de Israel, y de los sacerdotes, levitas, cantores, porteros, y netineos, en el séptimo año del rey Artajerjes.

Some of the sons of Israel and some of the religious leaders, the Levites, the singers, the gate-keepers and the servants of the house of God went up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

8 Y llegó a Jerusalén en el mes quinto, el año séptimo del rey.

Ezra came to Jerusalem in the fifth month in the seventh year of the king.

9 P orque el primero del primer mes fue el principio de la partida de Babilonia, y al primero del mes quinto llegó a Jerusalén, según la buena mano de su Dios sobre él.

He left Babylon on the first day of the first month, and came to Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month, because the good hand of his God was upon him.

10 P orque Esdras había preparado su corazón para buscar la ley del SEÑOR, y para hacer y para enseñar a Israel sus estatutos y juicios.

For Ezra had set his heart to learn the Law of the Lord, to live by it, and to teach His Laws in Israel.

11 Y éste es el traslado de la carta que dio el rey Artajerjes a Esdras, sacerdote escriba; escriba de las palabras mandadas del SEÑOR, y de sus estatutos sobre Israel:

This is what was written in the letter which King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the religious leader, the writer, who had much learning in the Laws of the Lord and His Laws for Israel:

12 A rtajerjes, rey de los reyes, a Esdras sacerdote, escriba perfecto de la ley del Dios del cielo y a Cheenet:

“Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the religious leader, the writer who knows the Law of the God of heaven: Peace. And now

13 P or mí es dado mandamiento, que cualquiera en mi reino, del pueblo de Israel y de sus sacerdotes y levitas que quisiera por su libre albedrío ir contigo a Jerusalén, vaya.

I let it be known that if there are any people of Israel, religious leaders or Levites in my nation who are willing to go to Jerusalem, they may go with you.

14 P orque de parte del rey y de sus siete consultores eres enviado a inquirir a Judea y a Jerusalén, conforme a la ley de tu Dios que está en tu mano;

For you are sent by the king and his seven men of wisdom to see if the Law of your God which is in your hand is being obeyed in Judah and Jerusalem.

15 y a llevar la plata y el oro que el rey y sus consultores voluntariamente ofrecen al Dios de Israel, cuya morada está en Jerusalén;

Take the silver and gold which the king and his men of wisdom have given because they wanted to give to the God of Israel, Whose house is in Jerusalem.

16 y toda la plata y el oro que hallares en toda la provincia de Babilonia, con las ofrendas voluntarias del pueblo y de los sacerdotes, que de su voluntad ofrecieren para la casa de su Dios que está en Jerusalén.

Take this with all the silver and gold you will find in the whole land of Babylon. And take the gifts of the people and of the religious leaders, who have given because they have wanted to for the house of their God in Jerusalem.

17 P or tanto con diligencia comprarás con esta plata becerros, carneros, corderos, con sus presentes y sus libaciones, y los ofrecerás sobre el altar de la casa de vuestro Dios que está en Jerusalén.

With this money, buy bulls, rams, and lambs, with their grain gifts and their drink gifts. And give them on the altar of the house of your God in Jerusalem.

18 Y lo que tú y tus hermanos quisieren hacer con la otra plata y oro, hacedlo conforme a la voluntad de vuestro Dios.

Whatever you and your brothers think is best to do with the rest of the silver and gold, you may do, if it is the will of your God.

19 Y los vasos que te son entregados para el servicio de la Casa de tu Dios, los restituirás delante de Dios en Jerusalén.

Also take to the God of Jerusalem all the objects given to you for the work of the house of your God.

20 Y lo demás necesario para la Casa de tu Dios que te fuere menester dar, lo darás de la casa de los tesoros del rey.

Whatever else is needed for the house of your God, you may take it from the king’s store-house.

21 Y por mí el rey Artajerjes es dado mandamiento a todos los tesoreros que están al otro lado del río, que todo lo que os demandare Esdras sacerdote, escriba de la ley del Dios del cielo, se le conceda luego,

I, King Artaxerxes, here make this known to all those who take care of the money in the lands on the other side of the River. You should be ready and willing to give Ezra, the religious leader and writer who knows the Law of the God of heaven, whatever he needs.

22 h asta cien talentos de plata, hasta cien coros de trigo, hasta cien batos de vino, hasta cien batos de aceite; y sal sin tasa.

Give silver weighing up to as much as 100 men, and as much as 1, 000 baskets of grain, 1, 100 jars of wine, 1, 100 jars of oil, and as much salt as is needed.

23 T odo lo que es mandado por el Dios del cielo, sea hecho prestamente para la Casa del Dios del cielo; pues, ¿por qué habría de ser su ira contra el reino del rey y de sus hijos?

Whatever is wanted by the God of heaven, let it be done in full for the house of the God of heaven. Or else He might be angry with the nation of the king and his sons.

24 Y a vosotros os hacemos saber, que a todos los sacerdotes y levitas, cantores, porteros, netineos y ministros de la casa de este Dios, ninguno pueda imponerles tributo, o impuesto, o renta.

We also let you know that it is not allowed to take any taxes from any of the religious leaders, Levites, singers, door-keepers, or servants of this house of God.

25 Y tú, Esdras, conforme a la sabiduría de tu Dios que tienes, pon por jueces y gobernadores, que gobiernen a todo el pueblo que está al otro lado del río, a todos los que tienen noticia de las leyes de tu Dios; y al que no la tuviere le enseñaréis.

And you, Ezra, use the wisdom of your God which is in your hand to choose leaders and judges. They are to judge all the people in the land on the other side of the River, all those who know the Laws of your God. You may teach anyone who does not know them.

26 Y cualquiera que no hiciere la ley de tu Dios, y la ley del rey, prestamente sea juzgado, o a muerte, o a desarraigo, o a pena de la hacienda, o a prisión.

Whoever will not obey the Law of your God and the law of the king, let his punishment be hard. Put him to death, or send him out of the land, or take what he has, or put him in prison.” Ezra Gives Praise to God

27 B endito sea el SEÑOR, Dios de nuestros padres, que puso tal cosa en el corazón del rey, para honrar la Casa del SEÑOR que está en Jerusalén.

Honor and thanks be to the Lord, the God of our fathers, Who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to make the house of the Lord in Jerusalem beautiful.

28 Y sobre mí extendió misericordia delante del rey y de sus consultores, y de todos los príncipes poderosos del rey. Y yo, confortado según la mano de mi Dios sobre mí, junté los principales de Israel para que subieren conmigo.

He has shown loving-kindness to me in front of the king and his wise men, and in front of all the king’s powerful leaders. I was given strength, because the hand of the Lord my God was upon me. And I gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.
