1 Y aconteció en el año undécimo, en el mes tercero, al primero del mes, que vino Palabra del SEÑOR a mí, diciendo:

On the first day of the third month in the eleventh year, the Word of the Lord came to me saying,

2 H ijo de hombre, di a Faraón rey de Egipto, y a su pueblo: ¿A quién te comparaste en tu grandeza?

“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his people, ‘Who can be compared with you in greatness?

3 H e aquí era el asirio, cedro en el Líbano, hermoso en ramas, y umbroso con sus ramas, y de grande altura, y su copa la más alta entre densas ramas.

Look at Assyria, once a cedar in Lebanon with beautiful branches and many leaves. It was very high, and its top was among the heavy branches.

4 L as aguas lo hicieron crecer, lo encumbró el abismo; sus ríos iban alrededor de su pie, y a todos los árboles del campo enviaba sus corrientes.

The waters made it grow, and the water under the ground made it grow high. Its rivers flowed all around its base, and spread water to all the trees of the field.

5 P or tanto, se encumbró su altura sobre todos los árboles del campo, y sus ramas se multiplicaron, y se alargaron sus ramas a causa de sus muchas aguas que enviaba.

So it was higher than all the trees of the field. And it grew many long and spreading branches because it had so much water.

6 E n sus ramas hacían nido todas las aves del cielo, y debajo de su ramaje parían todas las bestias del campo, y a su sombra habitaban muchos gentiles.

All the birds of the air made their nests in its branches. And under its branches all the animals of the field gave birth. All great nations lived in its shadow.

7 S e hizo hermoso en su grandeza con la extensión de sus ramas; porque su raíz estaba junto a muchas aguas.

It was beautiful in its greatness with its spreading branches, for its roots went down to much water.

8 L os cedros no lo cubrieron en el huerto de Dios; las hayas no fueron semejantes a sus ramas, ni los castaños fueron semejantes a sus ramos; ningún árbol en el huerto de Dios fue semejante a él en su hermosura.

The cedars in God’s garden could not compare with it. The fir trees and the chestnut trees could not compare with its branches. No tree in God’s garden was like it in beauty.

9 Y o lo hice hermoso con la multitud de sus ramas; y todos los árboles del Edén, que estaban en el huerto de Dios, tuvieron de él envidia.

I made it beautiful with its many branches. And all the trees that were in Eden were jealous of it.

10 P or tanto, así dijo el Señor DIOS: Por cuanto te encumbraste en altura, y puso su cumbre entre densas ramas, y su corazón se elevó con su altura,

‘So the Lord God says, “Because it has grown high with its top among the heavy branches, its heart has become proud,

11 Y o lo entregué en mano del fuerte de los gentiles, él lo tratará; por su impiedad lo derribé.

I will give it over to a powerful ruler of the nations, and he will punish it. Because of its sin, I will drive it out.

12 Y lo cortarán extraños, los fuertes de los gentiles, y lo abandonarán; sus ramas caerán sobre los montes y por todos los valles, y por todos los arroyos de la tierra serán quebrados sus ramos; y se irán de su sombra todos los pueblos de la tierra, y lo dejarán.

Rulers from other nations will cut it down and leave it. Its branches will fall on the mountains and in all the valleys. Its spreading branches will be broken in all the deep valleys of the land. All the people of the earth will go away from its shadow and leave it.

13 S obre su ruina habitarán todas las aves del cielo, y sobre su ramas estarán todas las bestias del campo,

All the birds of the air will live on its broken pieces. And all the animals of the field will be on its fallen branches.

14 p ara que no se eleven en su altura todos los árboles de las aguas, ni levanten su cumbre entre las espesuras, ni en sus ramas se paren en su altura todos los que beben aguas; porque todos serán entregados a muerte, a la tierra baja, en medio de los hijos de los hombres, con los que descienden a la sepultura.

This will be so that no trees by the water will grow high with their tops among the heavy branches. No trees that drink water will ever grow so high. For they have all been given over to death. They will go to the earth below, among men who die and go down to the grave.”

15 A sí dijo el Señor DIOS: El día que descendió al Seol, hice hacer luto, hice cubrir por él el abismo, y detuve sus ríos, y las muchas aguas fueron detenidas; y al Líbano cubrí de tinieblas por él, y todos los árboles del campo se desmayaron.

‘The Lord God says, “When it goes down to the place of the dead, I will make the waters under the ground cover it in sorrow. I will stop its rivers of water and fill Lebanon with sorrow over it. All the trees of the field will waste away because of it.

16 D el estruendo de su caída hice temblar a los gentiles, cuando lo hice descender a Seol con los que descienden al hoyo; y todos los árboles del Edén escogidos, y los mejores del Líbano, todos los que beben aguas, tomaron consolación en la tierra baja.

I will make the nations shake in fear at the sound of its fall when I send it to the place of the dead with those who go down to the grave. Then all the well-watered trees of Eden, the best of Lebanon, will be comforted in the earth below.

17 T ambién ellos descendieron con él al Seol, con los muertos a espada, los que fueron su brazo, los que estuvieron a su sombra en medio de los gentiles.

And those who lived under its shadow among the nations will go down to the place of the dead with it, to those who were killed by the sword.

18 ¿ A quién te has comparado así en gloria y en grandeza entre los árboles del Edén? Pues derribado serás con los árboles del Edén en la tierra baja; entre los incircuncisos yacerás, con los muertos a espada. Este es Faraón y todo su pueblo, dijo el Señor DIOS.

“Which of the trees of Eden can be compared with you in beauty and greatness? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth below. You will lie among the sinful, with those who were killed by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his people!”’ says the Lord God.”
