1 ¶ Y cuando Adonisedec rey de Jerusalén oyó que Josué había tomado a Hai, y que la habían asolado, (como había hecho a Jericó y a su rey, así hizo a Hai y a su rey;) y que los moradores de Gabaón habían hecho paz con los israelitas, y que estaban entre ellos;

Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and had destroyed it. Joshua had done the same thing to Ai and its king that he had done to Jericho and its king. Adoni-zedek heard that the people of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them.

2 t uvieron gran temor; porque Gabaón era una gran ciudad, como una de las ciudades reales, y mayor que Hai, y todos sus varones fuertes.

He was very much afraid. Because Gibeon was a large city, like one of the cities of a king. It was larger than Ai. All its men were strong.

3 E nvió pues a decir Adonisedec rey de Jerusalén, a Hoham rey de Hebrón, a Piream rey de Jarmut, a Jafía rey de Laquis, y a Debir rey de Eglón:

So Adoni-zedek of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon. He said to them,

4 S ubid a mí, y ayudadme, y combatamos a Gabaón; porque ha hecho paz con Josué y con los hijos de Israel.

“Come and help me. Let us go fight against Gibeon. For it has made peace with Joshua and the people of Israel.”

5 Y cinco reyes de los amorreos, el rey de Jerusalén, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jarmut, el rey de Laquis, el rey de Eglón, se juntaron y subieron, ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y asentaron campamento sobre Gabaón, y pelearon contra ella.

So the five kings of the Amorites, the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon, gathered together with all their armies. And they went and set up their tents by Gibeon, to fight against it.

6 Y los hombres de Gabaón enviaron a Josué al campamento en Gilgal diciendo: No aflojas tus manos para con tus siervos; sube prestamente a nosotros para salvarnos y ayudarnos; porque todos los reyes de los amorreos que habitan en las montañas, se han juntado contra nosotros.

Then the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua at the tents at Gilgal, saying, “Do not leave your servants alone. Hurry and help us. For all the kings of the Amorites who live in the hill country have gathered against us.”

7 ¶ Y subió Josué de Gilgal, él y todo el pueblo de guerra con él, y todos los hombres valientes.

So Joshua went up from Gilgal. He took with him all the men of war and all the strong soldiers.

8 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: No tengas temor de ellos; porque yo los he entregado en tu mano, y ninguno de ellos parará delante de ti.

The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them. For I have given them into your hands. Not one of them will stand in front of you.”

9 Y Josué vino a ellos de repente, porque toda la noche subió desde Gilgal.

So Joshua came upon them by surprise by traveling all night from Gilgal.

10 Y el SEÑOR los turbó delante de Israel, y los hirió con gran mortandad en Gabaón; y los siguió por el camino que sube a Bet-horón, y los hirió hasta Azeca y Maceda.

The Lord brought trouble upon the Amorites in front of Israel. He killed many of them at Gibeon, and went after them on the way up to Beth-horon. He killed them as far as Azekah and Makkedah.

11 Y cuando iban huyendo de los israelitas, a la bajada de Bet-horón, el SEÑOR echó sobre ellos del cielo grandes piedras hasta Azeca, y murieron; muchos más murieron de las piedras del granizo, que los que los hijos de Israel habían muerto a espada.

They ran from Israel. And while they ran from Beth-horon, the Lord made large hail-stones fall from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. More died from the hail-stones than the sons of Israel killed with the sword.

12 E ntonces Josué habló al SEÑOR el día que el SEÑOR entregó al amorreo delante de los hijos de Israel, y dijo en presencia de los israelitas: Sol, detente en Gabaón; y tú, Luna, en el valle de Ajalón.

Then Joshua spoke to the Lord on the day when the Lord made the Amorites lose the war against the sons of Israel. He said, in the eyes of Israel, “O sun, stand still at Gibeon. O moon, stand still in the valley of Aijalon.”

13 Y el sol se detuvo y la luna se paró, hasta tanto que la nación se vengó de sus enemigos. ¿No está escrito esto en el libro de la rectitud? Y el sol se paró en medio del cielo, y no se apresuró a ponerse casi un día entero.

So the sun stood still and the moon stopped, until the nation punished those who fought against them. Is it not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the center of the sky. It did not hurry to go down for about a whole day.

14 Y nunca fue tal día antes ni después de aquel, escuchando el SEÑOR a la voz de un hombre; porque el SEÑOR peleaba por Israel.

There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man. For the Lord fought for Israel.

15 ¶ Y Josué, y todo el pueblo con él, volvió al campamento en Gilgal.

Then Joshua and all Israel returned to the tents at Gilgal.

16 P ero los cinco reyes huyeron, y se escondieron en una cueva en Maceda.

Now these five kings had run away and hidden themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

17 Y fue dicho a Josué que los cinco reyes habían sido hallados escondidos en una cueva en Maceda.

Joshua was told, “The five kings have been found hiding in the cave at Makkedah.”

18 E ntonces Josué dijo: Rodad grandes piedras a la boca de la cueva, y poned hombres junto a ella que los guarden;

And Joshua said, “Roll large stones against the opening of the cave. Then put men there to watch over them.

19 y vosotros no os paréis, sino seguid a vuestros enemigos, y heridles la retaguardia, sin dejarles entrar en sus ciudades; porque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestra mano.

But do not stay there yourselves. Go after those who hate you. Follow after them and fight. Do not let them go into their cities. For the Lord your God has given them into your hand.”

20 Y aconteció que cuando Josué y los hijos de Israel acabaron de herirlos con mortandad muy grande, hasta destruirlos, los que quedaron de ellos se metieron en las ciudades fuertes.

Joshua and the sons of Israel finished killing many of them, until they were destroyed. Those who were left alive went into their strong cities.

21 Y todo el pueblo se volvió en paz al campamento a Josué en Maceda; que no hubo quien moviera su lengua contra los hijos de Israel.

Then all the people returned to Joshua at the tents at Makkedah in peace. No one said a word against any of the people of Israel.

22 E ntonces dijo Josué: Abrid la boca de la cueva, y sacadme de ella a estos cinco reyes.

Then Joshua said, “Open the mouth of the cave and bring those five kings out to me.”

23 Y lo hicieron así, y sacaron de la cueva aquellos cinco reyes: al rey de Jerusalén, al rey de Hebrón, al rey de Jarmut, al rey de Laquis, y al rey de Eglón.

The five kings were brought to him from the cave, the king of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon.

24 Y cuando sacaron estos reyes a Josué, llamó Josué a todos los varones de Israel, y dijo a los principales de los hombres de guerra que habían venido con él: Llegad y poned vuestros pies sobre los cuellos de estos reyes. Y ellos se acercaron, y pusieron sus pies sobre los cuellos de ellos.

When they brought those kings out to Joshua, he called for all the men of Israel. He said to the leaders of the men of war who had gone with him, “Come near. Put your feet on the necks of these kings.” So they came and put their feet on their necks.

25 Y Josué les dijo: No temáis, ni os atemoricéis; sed fuertes y valientes, porque así hará el SEÑOR a todos vuestros enemigos contra los cuales peleáis.

Then Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid or troubled. Be strong and have strength of heart. For the Lord will do this to all who hate you and fight against you.”

26 Y después de esto Josué los hirió y los mató, y los hizo colgar en cinco maderos; y quedaron colgados en los maderos hasta la tarde.

After this Joshua killed the kings. He hanged them on five trees, and they hung on the trees until evening.

27 Y cuando el sol se iba a poner, mandó Josué que los quitaran de los maderos, y los echaran en la cueva donde se habían escondido; y pusieron grandes piedras a la boca de la cueva, hasta hoy.

When the sun went down, Joshua had them taken down from the trees and thrown into the cave where they had hidden. Large stones were put over the opening of the cave. And they are there to this day.

28 ¶ En aquel mismo día tomó Josué a Maceda, y la puso a espada, y mató a su rey; a ellos y a todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin quedar nada; mas al rey de Maceda hizo como había hecho al rey de Jericó.

Joshua took Makkedah on that day. He destroyed it and its king with the sword. He destroyed all of it and every person in it. No one was left alive. He did the same to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

29 Y de Maceda pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, a Libna; y peleó contra Libna;

Then Joshua and all Israel went from Makkedah to fight against Libnah.

30 y el SEÑOR la entregó también a ella, y a su rey, en manos de Israel; y la hirió a filo de espada, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, sin quedar nada; mas a su rey hizo de la manera que había hecho al rey de Jericó.

The Lord gave it and its king into the hands of Israel also. Joshua destroyed it and every person in it with the sword. He left no one alive. So he did the same to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.

31 Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Libna a Laquis, y puso campamento contra ella, y la combatió;

Joshua and all Israel went from Libnah to Lachish. They stayed beside it and fought against it.

32 y el SEÑOR entregó a Laquis en mano de Israel, y la tomó al día siguiente, y la metió a espada, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, como había hecho en Libna.

And the Lord gave Lachish into the hands of Israel. Joshua took it on the second day. He destroyed it and every person in it with the sword, just as he had done to Libnah.

33 E ntonces Horam, rey de Gezer, subió en ayuda de Laquis; mas a él y a su pueblo hirió Josué, hasta no quedar ninguno de ellos.

Horam king of Gezer came to help Lachish. But Joshua won the battle against him and his people. He left no one alive.

34 D e Laquis pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, a Eglón; y pusieron campamento contra ella, y la combatieron;

Joshua and all Israel went from Lachish to Eglon. They stayed beside it and fought against it.

35 y la tomaron el mismo día, y la hirieron a espada; y el mismo día mataron a todo lo que en ella había vivo, como habían hecho en Laquis.

And they took it on that day and destroyed it with the sword. He destroyed every person who was in it that day, just as he had done to Lachish.

36 S ubió luego Josué, y todo Israel con él, de Eglón a Hebrón, y la combatieron;

Joshua and all Israel went from Eglon to Hebron. And they fought against it.

37 y tomándola, la hirieron a espada, a su rey y a todas sus ciudades, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, sin quedar nada; como habían hecho a Eglón, así la destruyeron con todo lo que en ella había vivo.

They took it and destroyed it. They destroyed its king, all its cities and all who were in it with the sword. He left no one alive, just as he had done to Eglon. He destroyed all of it and every person in it.

38 Y volviéndose Josué, y todo Israel con él, sobre Debir, la combatió;

Then Joshua and all Israel returned to Debir. And they fought against it.

39 y la tomó, y a su rey, y a todas sus villas; y los hirieron a espada, y destruyeron todo lo que en ella había vivo, sin quedar nada; como había hecho a Hebrón, así hizo a Debir y a su rey; y como había hecho a Libna y a su rey.

He took it, its king and all its cities. He destroyed them with the sword. Every person in it was destroyed. No one was left alive. He did the same to Debir and its king as he had done to Hebron and Libnah and their kings.

40 H irió pues Josué toda la región de las montañas, y del mediodía, y de los llanos, y de las cuestas, con todos sus reyes, sin quedar nada; destruyó todo lo que respiraba, de la manera que el SEÑOR Dios de Israel lo había mandado.

So Joshua won the war against the whole land, the hill country, the Negev, the valleys, the hill-sides, and all their kings. He left no one alive. He destroyed all who breathed, just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had told him.

41 Y los hirió Josué desde Cades-barnea hasta Gaza, y toda la tierra de Gosén hasta Gabaón.

Joshua killed them from Kadesh-barnea as far as Gaza. He killed them in all the country of Goshen as far as Gibeon.

42 T odos estos reyes y sus tierras tomó Josué de una vez; porque el SEÑOR el Dios de Israel peleaba por Israel.

Joshua took all these kings and their lands at the same time. Because the Lord, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

43 Y volvió Josué, y todo Israel con él, al campamento en Gilgal.

Then Joshua and all Israel returned to the tents at Gilgal.
