1 Y durmió Josafat con sus padres, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de David. Y reinó en su lugar Joram su hijo.

Jehoshaphat died, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. His son Jehoram became king in his place.

2 E ste tuvo hermanos, hijos de Josafat, a Azarías, Jehiel, Zacarías, Azarías, Micael, y Sefatías. Todos éstos fueron hijos de Josafat rey de Israel.

Jehoram’s brothers were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of King Jehoshaphat of Israel.

3 Y su padre les había dado muchos dones de oro y de plata, y cosas preciosas, y ciudades fuertes en Judá; mas había dado el reino a Joram, porque él era el primogénito.

Their father gave them many gifts of silver, gold, and things of much worth. He gave them strong cities in Judah. But he made Jehoram king, because he was the first-born.

4 Y se levantó Joram contra el reino de su padre; y se hizo fuerte, y mató a espada a todos sus hermanos, y asimismo a algunos de los príncipes de Israel.

Now when Jehoram had become king in the place of his father, and had made himself strong, he killed all his brothers with the sword. He killed some of the leaders of Israel also.

5 C uando comenzó a reinar era de treinta y dos años, y reinó ocho años en Jerusalén.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king. And he ruled for eight years in Jerusalem.

6 Y anduvo en el camino de los reyes de Israel, como hizo la casa de Acab; porque tenía por mujer a la hija de Acab, e hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR.

He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as those of Ahab’s house did. (For Ahab’s daughter was his wife.) He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord.

7 M as el SEÑOR no quiso destruir la casa de David, por la alianza que con David había hecho, y porque le había dicho que le daría lámpara a él y a sus hijos perpetuamente.

Yet the Lord would not destroy the family of David, because of the agreement He had made with David. He had promised to give a light to him and his sons forever.

8 E n los días de éste se rebeló Edom, para no estar bajo el poder de Judá, y pusieron rey sobre sí.

In the days of Jehoram, Edom turned against the rule of Judah, and set up a king of their own.

9 E ntonces pasó Joram con sus príncipes, y consigo todos sus carros; y se levantó de noche, e hirió a Edom que le habían cercado, y a todos los príncipes de sus carros.

Then Jehoram crossed over with his captains and all his war-wagons. He went during the night and destroyed the Edomites who had gathered around him and the captains of the war-wagons.

10 C on todo eso Edom quedó rebelado, sin estar bajo la mano de Judá hasta hoy. También se rebeló en el mismo tiempo Libna para no estar bajo su mano; por cuanto él había dejado al SEÑOR el Dios de sus padres.

So Edom has been against the rule of Judah to this day. Libnah turned against Jehoram’s rule at the same time, because he had left the Lord God of his fathers.

11 A demás de esto hizo lugares altos en los montes de Judá, e hizo que los moradores de Jerusalén fornicaran, y a ello impelió a Judá.

And Jehoram made high places in the mountains of Judah. He caused the people of Jerusalem to give themselves over to sin. And he made Judah sin.

12 ¶ Y le llegaron letras del profeta Elías, que decían así: El SEÑOR, el Dios de David tu padre, ha dicho así: Por cuanto no has andado en los caminos de Josafat tu padre, ni en los caminos de Asa, rey de Judá,

Then a letter came to him from Elijah the man of God, saying, “The Lord God of your father David says, ‘You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat, and the ways of King Asa of Judah.

13 a ntes has andado en el camino de los reyes de Israel, y has hecho que fornicara Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalén, como fornicó la casa de Acab; y además has dado muerte a tus hermanos, a la casa de tu padre, los cuales eran mejores que tú,

But you have walked in the way of the kings of Israel. You have caused Judah and the people of Israel to give themselves over to sin, as those of Ahab’s house did. And you have killed your brothers, your own family, who were better than you.

14 h e aquí el SEÑOR herirá tu pueblo de una gran plaga, a tus hijos a tus mujeres, y a toda tu hacienda;

So see, the Lord is going to send a bad disease upon your people, your sons, your wives, and all you have.

15 y a ti con muchas enfermedades, con enfermedad de tus entrañas, hasta que las entrañas se te salgan a causa de la enfermedad de cada día.

You yourself will suffer a bad sickness, a disease of your stomach. Your insides will come out because of the sickness, day by day.’”

16 ¶ Entonces despertó el SEÑOR contra Joram el espíritu de los filisteos, y de los árabes que estaban junto a los etíopes;

Then the Lord made the Philistines and the Arabs who were near the Ethiopians angry against Jehoram.

17 y subieron contra Judá, e invadieron la tierra, y saquearon toda la hacienda que hallaron en la casa del rey, a sus hijos, y a sus mujeres; de modo que no le quedó hijo, sino Joacaz el menor de sus hijos.

They came and fought against Judah, and carried away all the things they found in the king’s house, together with his sons and his wives. No son was left to him except Jehoahaz, his youngest.

18 D espués de todo esto el SEÑOR lo hirió en las entrañas con una enfermedad incurable.

After all this the Lord caused a sickness in Jehoram’s stomach, which could not be cured.

19 Y aconteció que, pasando un día tras otro, al fin, al cabo de dos años, las entrañas se le salieron por la enfermedad, muriendo así de enfermedad muy penosa. Y no le hizo quema su pueblo, como las había hecho a sus padres.

After that time, at the end of two years, his insides came out because of his sickness. And he died in much pain. His people made no fire for him like the fires made for his fathers.

20 C uando comenzó a reinar era de treinta y dos años, y reinó en Jerusalén ocho años; y se fue sin ser deseado. Y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, mas no en los sepulcros de los reyes.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for eight years. And no one felt bad when he died. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the graves of the kings.
