1 ¶ Aconteció después de esto, que teniendo Absalón hijo de David una hermana hermosa que se llamaba Tamar, se enamoró de ella Amnón hijo de David.

Now David’s son Absalom had a beautiful sister whose name was Tamar. And David’s son Amnon loved her.

2 Y estaba Amnón angustiado hasta enfermar, por Tamar su hermana; porque por ser ella virgen, parecía a Amnón que sería cosa dificultosa hacerle algo.

Amnon was so troubled because of his sister Tamar that he became sick. She was a woman who had never had a man, and Amnon thought how hard it would be to have her.

3 Y Amnón tenía un amigo que se llamaba Jonadab, hijo de Simea, hermano de David; y era Jonadab hombre muy astuto.

But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab. He was the son of David’s brother Shimeah. And Jonadab was very good at making plans.

4 Y éste le dijo: Hijo del rey, ¿por qué de día en día vas así enflaqueciendo? ¿No me lo descubrirás a mí? Y Amnón le respondió: Yo amo a Tamar la hermana de Absalón mi hermano.

He said to Amnon, “O son of the king, why are you so sad from day to day? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I am in love with Tamar, the sister of my brother Absalom.”

5 Y Jonadab le dijo: Acuéstate en tu cama, y finge que estás enfermo; y cuando tu padre viniere a visitarte, dile: Te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, para que me conforte con alguna comida, y aderece delante de mí alguna vianda, para que viéndola yo, la coma de su mano.

Then Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be sick. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘I beg you, let my sister Tamar come and give me some food to eat. Let her make food ready here so I can see it and eat it from her hand.’”

6 S e acostó, pues, Amnón, y fingió que estaba enfermo, y vino el rey a visitarle; y dijo Amnón al rey: Yo te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, y haga delante de mí dos hojuelas, que coma yo de su mano.

So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to him, “I beg you, let my sister Tamar come and make two loaves beside me, that I may eat from her hand.”

7 Y David envió a Tamar a su casa, diciendo: Ve ahora a casa de Amnón tu hermano, y hazle de comer.

Then David sent home for Tamar, saying, “Go now to your brother Amnon’s house, and make food for him.”

8 E ntonces fue Tamar a casa de su hermano Amnón, el cual estaba acostado; tomó harina, amasó e hizo hojuelas delante de él, y las aderezó.

So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house. He was lying down. And she took dough and made loaves so he could watch. Then she baked them ready to eat.

9 T omó luego la sartén, y las sacó delante de él; mas él no quiso comer. Y dijo Amnón: Echad fuera de aquí a todos. Y todos se salieron de allí.

And she took the dish and held it out in front of him. But he would not eat. Amnon said, “Have everyone leave me.” So everyone left him.

10 E ntonces Amnón dijo a Tamar: Trae la comida a la alcoba, para que yo coma de tu mano. Y tomando Tamar las hojuelas que había aderezado, las llevó a su hermano Amnón a la alcoba.

Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food to my room, so I may eat from your hand.” So Tamar took the loaves she had made and brought them to her brother Amnon in his room.

11 Y cuando ella se las puso delante para que comiera, él la asió con fuerza, diciéndole: Ven, hermana mía acuéstate conmigo.

When she brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said, “Come, lie with me, my sister.”

12 E lla entonces le respondió: No, hermano mío, no me hagas fuerza; porque no se hace así en Israel. No hagas tal locura.

But she said, “No, my brother. Do not make me. For such a thing is not done in Israel. Do not do this bad and foolish thing!

13 P orque, ¿dónde iría yo con mi deshonra? Y aun tú serías estimado como uno de los locos de Israel. Te ruego, pues, ahora que hables al rey, que no me negará a ti.

As for me, where could I get rid of my shame? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. So now I beg you, speak to the king, for he will not keep me from you.”

14 M as él no la quiso oír; antes pudiendo más que ella la forzó, y se echó con ella.

But Amnon would not listen to her. Being stronger than she, he made her lay with him.

15 L a aborreció luego Amnón de tan grande aborrecimiento, que el odio con que la aborreció después fue mayor que el amor con que la había amado. Y le dijo Amnón: Levántate y vete.

Then Amnon hated her very much. He hated her more than he had loved her. He said to her, “Get up! Go away!”

16 Y ella le respondió: No hay razón; mayor mal es éste de echarme, que el que me has hecho. Mas él no la quiso oír;

But she said to him, “No! Sending me away is worse than what you have done to me!” But he would not listen to her.

17 a ntes llamando a su criado que le servía le dijo: Echame ésta allá fuera, y tras ella cierra la puerta.

He called the young man who helped him and said, “Throw this woman out of my house, and lock the door behind her.”

18 ( Y tenía ella sobre sí una ropa de colores, traje que las hijas vírgenes de los reyes vestían.) Y su criado la echó pues fuera, y cerró la puerta tras ella.

Now she was wearing a dress which covered her arms. For this is how the king’s daughters dressed when they had never had a man. The man who helped Amnon took her out and locked the door behind her.

19 E ntonces Tamar tomó ceniza, y la esparció sobre su cabeza, y rasgó su ropa de colores de que estaba vestida, y puestas sus manos sobre su cabeza, se fue gritando.

Then Tamar put ashes on her head. She tore the dress she was wearing which covered her arms. And she put her hand on her head and went away with a loud cry.

20 Y le dijo su hermano Absalón: ¿Ha estado contigo tu hermano Amnón? Pues calla ahora, hermana mía; tu hermano es; no pongas tu corazón en este negocio. Y se quedó Tamar desconsolada en casa de Absalón su hermano.

Absalom her brother said to her, “Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet now, my sister. He is your brother. Do not take this to heart.” So Tamar stayed in her brother Absalom’s house, sad and alone.

21 ¶ Y luego que el rey David oyó todo esto, estuvo muy enojado.

When King David heard about all this, he was very angry.

22 M as Absalón no habló con Amnón ni malo ni bueno, bien que Absalón aborrecía a Amnón, porque había forzado a Tamar su hermana.

But Absalom did not speak good or bad to Amnon. Absalom hated Amnon because he had put his sister to shame. Absalom Kills Amnon

23 Y aconteció pasados dos años, que Absalón tenía esquiladores en Bala-hazor, que está junto a Efraín; y convidó Absalón a todos los hijos del rey.

After two full years, Absalom had men cut the wool from the sheep in Baal-hazor, near Ephraim. And Absalom asked all the king’s sons to come.

24 Y vino Absalón al rey, y le dijo: He aquí, tu siervo tiene ahora esquiladores; yo ruego que venga el rey y sus siervos con tu siervo.

He came to the king and said, “See, your servant has men to cut the wool from the sheep. Let the king and his men go with your servant.”

25 Y respondió el rey a Absalón: No, hijo mío, no vamos todos, para que no te seamos gravosos. Y aunque porfió con él, no quiso ir, mas lo bendijo.

But the king said to Absalom, “No, my son. We should not all go, or we will be trouble for you.” Absalom tried to talk him into going. The king prayed that good would come to him, but he would not go with him.

26 E ntonces dijo Absalón: Si no, te ruego que venga con nosotros Amnón mi hermano. Y el rey le respondió: ¿Para qué ha de ir contigo?

Then Absalom said, “If you will not go, let my brother Amnon go with us.” And the king said to him, “Why should he go with you?”

27 Y como Absalón lo importunara, dejó ir con él a Amnón y a todos los hijos del rey.

But when Absalom kept asking him, he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

28 Y había Absalón dado orden a sus criados, diciendo: Ahora bien, mirad cuando el corazón de Amnón estará alegre del vino, y cuando yo os dijere: Herid a Amnón, entonces matadle, y no temáis; que yo os lo he mandado. Esforzaos pues, y sed valientes.

Then Absalom told his servants, “Watch when Amnon’s heart is happy with wine. When I say to you, ‘Kill Amnon,’ then put him to death. Do not be afraid. Have not I myself told you to do it? Have strength of heart.”

29 Y los criados de Absalón hicieron con Amnón como Absalón lo había mandado. Se levantaron luego todos los hijos del rey, y subieron todos en sus mulos, y huyeron.

So Absalom’s servants did to Amnon just as Absalom had told them. Then all the king’s sons got up on their horses and left in a hurry.

30 ¶ Y estando aún ellos en el camino, llegó a David el rumor que decía: Absalón ha dado muerte a todos los hijos del rey, que ninguno de ellos ha quedado.

While they were on their way, the news came to David, saying, “Absalom has killed all the king’s sons. Not one of them is left.”

31 E ntonces levantándose David, rasgó sus vestidos, y se echó en tierra, y todos sus siervos tenían rasgados sus vestidos.

The king got up and tore his clothes, and lay on the ground. And all his servants standing beside him tore their clothes.

32 Y Jonadab, hijo de Simea hermano de David, habló y dijo: No diga mi señor que han matado a todos los jóvenes hijos del rey, ya que sólo Amnón ha muerto; porque en la boca de Absalón estaba puesto desde el día que Amnón forzó a Tamar su hermana.

But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, said, “Do not let my lord think they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons. Only Amnon is dead. Absalom has wanted to kill him since the day he put his sister Tamar to shame.

33 P or tanto, ahora no ponga mi señor el rey en su corazón tal palabra que dice: Todos los hijos del rey han muerto; porque sólo Amnón ha muerto.

So do not let my lord the king take this to heart and think that all the king’s sons are dead, for only Amnon is dead.” Absalom Goes to Geshur

34 A bsalón huyó luego. Entre tanto, alzando sus ojos el joven que estaba de atalaya, miró, y he aquí mucho pueblo que venía a sus espaldas por el camino hacia el monte.

Now Absalom had run away. And the young man who kept watch looked up and saw many people coming from the road behind him by the side of the mountain.

35 Y dijo Jonadab al rey: He allí los hijos del rey que vienen; porque así es como tu siervo ha dicho.

Jonadab said to the king, “See, the king’s sons have come. What your servant said is true.”

36 Y cuando él acabó de hablar, he aquí los hijos del rey que vinieron, y alzando su voz lloraron. Y también el mismo rey y todos sus siervos lloraron con muy grandes lamentos.

As soon as he had finished speaking, the king’s sons came and cried in a loud voice. The king and all his servants cried also.

37 M as Absalón huyó, y se fue a Talmai hijo de Amiud, rey de Gesur. Y David lloraba por su hijo todos los días.

Absalom ran away and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. And David was filled with sorrow for his son every day.

38 Y después que Absalón huyó y se fue a Gesur, estuvo allá tres años.

So Absalom had run away to Geshur, and was there three years.

39 Y el rey David deseó ver a Absalón; porque ya estaba consolado acerca de Amnón que había muerto.

The spirit of King David wanted very much to go out to Absalom. For he was comforted about Amnon, since he was dead.
