1 ¶ Y cuando toda la gente hubo acabado de pasar el Jordán, el SEÑOR habló a Josué, diciendo:

When all the nation had crossed the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua,

2 T omad del pueblo doce varones, de cada tribu uno,

“Choose twelve men from the people, one man from each family.

3 y mandadles, diciendo: Tomaos de aquí del medio del Jordán, del lugar donde están firmes los pies de los sacerdotes, doce piedras, las cuales pasaréis con vosotros, y las asentaréis en el alojamiento donde habéis de tener la noche.

Tell them, ‘Take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan. Take them from the place where the religious leaders’ feet are standing. Carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you stay tonight.’”

4 E ntonces Josué llamó doce varones, los cuales él había preparado de entre los hijos de Israel, de cada tribu uno;

So Joshua called the twelve men he had chosen from the sons of Israel, one man from each family.

5 y les dijo Josué: Pasad delante del arca del SEÑOR vuestro Dios por en medio del Jordán; y cada uno de vosotros tome una piedra sobre su hombro, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel;

And Joshua said to them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan in front of the special box of the agreement of the Lord your God. Each of you take a stone on his shoulder, one for each of the twelve family groups of Israel.

6 p ara que esto sea señal entre vosotros; y cuando vuestros hijos preguntaren a sus padres mañana, diciendo: ¿Qué os significan estas piedras?

Let this be something special among you. Your children will ask you later, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

7 L es responderéis: Que las aguas del Jordán fueron cortadas delante del arca del pacto del SEÑOR cuando ella pasó el Jordán, las aguas del Jordán se cortaron; y estas piedras serán por memoria a los hijos de Israel para siempre.

Then you will tell them that the water of the Jordan was cut off before the special box of the agreement of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the water of the Jordan was cut off. So these stones will become something to remember to the people of Israel forever.”

8 Y los hijos de Israel lo hicieron así como Josué les mandó; que levantaron doce piedras en medio del Jordán, como el SEÑOR lo había dicho a Josué, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel, y las pasaron consigo al alojamiento, y las asentaron allí.

The sons of Israel did as Joshua told them. They took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as the Lord told Joshua. There was one stone for each family group of the sons of Israel. They carried them over with them to the place where they stayed, and put them down there.

9 J osué también levantó doce piedras en medio del Jordán, en el lugar donde estuvieron los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto; y han estado allí hasta hoy.

Then Joshua set up twelve stones at the place where the feet of the religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement were standing in the middle of the Jordan. They are there to this day.

10 ¶ Y los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca se pararon en medio del Jordán, hasta tanto que se acabó todo lo que el SEÑOR había mandado a Josué que hablara al pueblo, conforme a todas las cosas que Moisés había mandado a Josué; y el pueblo se dio prisa y pasó.

The religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement stood in the middle of the Jordan. They stood there until everything was finished that the Lord told Joshua to tell the people, all that Moses had told Joshua. The people crossed in a hurry.

11 Y cuando todo el pueblo acabó de pasar, pasó también el arca del SEÑOR, y los sacerdotes, en presencia del pueblo.

When all the people were over, they watched the religious leaders carry the special box of the agreement to the other side.

12 T ambién los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, pasaron armados delante de los hijos de Israel, según Moisés les había dicho.

The sons of Reuben and Gad and the half-family group of Manasseh crossed over ready for battle before the people of Israel, just as Moses had told them.

13 C omo cuarenta mil hombres armados a punto pasaron hacia la campiña de Jericó delante del SEÑOR a la guerra.

About 40, 000 soldiers ready for battle crossed before the Lord to the desert plains of Jericho.

14 E n aquel día el SEÑOR engrandeció a Josué en ojos de todo Israel; y le temieron, como habían temido a Moisés, todos los días de su vida.

On that day the Lord gave Joshua honor in the eyes of all Israel. So they honored him as a great man just as they had honored Moses all the days of his life.

15 Y el SEÑOR habló a Josué, diciendo:

The Lord said to Joshua,

16 M anda a los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del testimonio, que suban del Jordán.

“Tell the religious leaders who carry the special box of the agreement to come up from the Jordan.”

17 Y Josué mandó a los sacerdotes, diciendo: Subid del Jordán.

So Joshua told the religious leaders to come up from the Jordan.

18 Y aconteció que cuando los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto del SEÑOR, subieron de en medio del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes estuvieron en seco, las aguas del Jordán se volvieron a su lugar, corriendo como antes sobre todos sus bordes.

The religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement of the Lord came up from the middle of the Jordan. When their feet stepped on dry ground, the water of the Jordan returned to its place. It flowed over its sides as before.

19 Y el pueblo subió del Jordán el diez del mes primero, y asentaron el campamento en Gilgal, al lado oriental de Jericó.

The people came up from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month. Then they stayed at Gilgal on the east side of Jericho.

20 ¶ Y Josué erigió en Gilgal las doce piedras que habían traído del Jordán.

Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.

21 Y habló a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Cuando mañana preguntaren vuestros hijos a sus padres, y dijeren: ¿Qué os significan estas piedras?

He said to the people of Israel, “Your children will ask their fathers some time in the future, ‘What do these stones mean?’

22 D eclararéis a vuestros hijos, diciendo: Israel pasó en seco por este Jordán.

Then let your children know that Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.

23 P orque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios secó las aguas del Jordán delante de vosotros, hasta que pasasteis, a la manera que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios lo había hecho en el mar Bermejo, al cual secó delante de nosotros hasta que pasamos;

For the Lord your God dried up the water of the Jordan before you until you had crossed. It was just as the Lord your God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed.

24 p ara que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan la mano del SEÑOR, que es fuerte; para que temáis al SEÑOR vuestro Dios todos los días.

Now all the people of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is powerful, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”
