1 ¶ Y dieron aviso a David, diciendo: He aquí que los filisteos combaten a Keila, y roban las eras.

Then they told David, “See, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah. They are taking the grain from the grain-floors.”

2 Y David consultó al SEÑOR, diciendo: ¿Iré a herir a estos filisteos? Y el SEÑOR respondió a David: Ve, hiere a los filisteos, y salva a Keila.

So David asked the Lord, “Should I go and fight these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David, “Go, fight the Philistines, and save Keilah.”

3 M as los varones que estaban con David le dijeron: He aquí que nosotros aquí en Judá estamos con miedo; ¿cuánto más si fuéremos a Keila contra el ejército de los filisteos?

But David’s men said to him, “See, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”

4 E ntonces David volvió a consultar al SEÑOR. Y el SEÑOR le respondió, y dijo: Levántate, desciende a Keila, que yo entregaré en tus manos a los filisteos.

Then David asked the Lord again. The Lord answered him, “Get ready and go down to Keilah. For I will give the Philistines into your hand.”

5 Y partió David con sus hombres a Keila, y peleó contra los filisteos, y trajo antecogidos sus ganados, y los hirió con grande estrago; y libró David a los de Keila.

So David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines. He killed many of them and took away their cattle. And David saved the people of Keilah.

6 Y aconteció que, huyendo Abiatar hijo de Ahimelec a David a Keila, vino con el efod en su mano.

When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech ran to David at Keilah, he came with a linen vest in his hand.

7 ¶ Y fue dicho a Saúl como David había venido a Keila. Entonces dijo Saúl: Dios lo ha traído a mis manos; porque él está encerrado, habiéndose metido en una ciudad con puertas y cerraduras.

When Saul was told that David had come to Keilah, he said, “God has given him to me. For he has shut himself in by going into a city with iron gates.”

8 Y convocó Saúl todo el pueblo a la batalla, para descender a Keila, y poner cerco a David y a los suyos.

Saul called all the men for war, to go down to Keilah to trap David and his men.

9 M as entendiendo David que Saúl ideaba el mal contra él, dijo a Abiatar sacerdote: Trae el efod.

David knew that Saul was planning against him, so he said to Abiathar the religious leader, “Bring the linen vest here.”

10 Y dijo David: SEÑOR Dios de Israel, tu siervo ha oído que Saúl procura venir contra Keila, a destruir la ciudad por causa mía.

Then David said, “O Lord God of Israel, Your servant has heard for sure that Saul is planning to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me.

11 ¿ Me entregarán los señores de Keila en sus manos? ¿Descenderá Saúl, como tu siervo ha oído decir? SEÑOR Dios de Israel, te ruego que lo declares a tu siervo. Y el SEÑOR dijo: Sí, descenderá.

Will the men of Keilah give me to him? Will Saul come down just as Your servant has heard? O Lord God of Israel, I pray, tell Your servant.” And the Lord said, “He will come down.”

12 D ijo luego David: ¿Me entregarán los señores de Keila a mí y a los varones que están conmigo en manos de Saúl? Y el SEÑOR respondió: Te entregarán.

Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah give me and my men to Saul?” And the Lord said, “They will give you up.”

13 D avid entonces se levantó con sus hombres, que eran como seiscientos, y salieron de Keila, y fueron de una parte a otra. Y vino la nueva a Saúl de como David se había escapado de Keila; y dejó de salir.

Then David and his men, about 600, got up and left Keilah. They went where they could go. When Saul was told that David had run away from Keilah, he gave up going there. David Stays in the Hill Country

14 ¶ Y David se estaba en el desierto en peñas, y habitaba en un monte en el desierto de Zif; y lo buscaba Saúl todos los días, mas Dios no lo entregó en sus manos.

David stayed in the safe places in the desert. He stayed in the hill country in the desert of Ziph. Saul looked for him every day, but God did not give David to him.

15 V iendo, pues, David que Saúl había salido en busca de su alma, se estaba él en el bosque en el desierto de Zif.

David saw that Saul had come out to try to kill him. David was in the desert of Ziph at Horesh.

16 E ntonces se levantó Jonatán hijo de Saúl, y vino a David en el bosque, y fortaleció su mano en Dios.

Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and gave him strength in God.

17 Y le dijo: No temas, que no te hallará la mano de Saúl mi padre, y tú reinarás sobre Israel, y yo seré segundo después de ti; y aun mi padre así lo sabe.

He said to him, “Do not be afraid, because my father Saul will not find you. You will be king of Israel, and I will be next to you. My father Saul knows this also.”

18 Y entre ambos hicieron pacto delante del SEÑOR; y David se quedó en el bosque, y Jonatán se volvió a su casa.

So the two of them made an agreement before the Lord. And David stayed at Horesh, and Jonathan went home.

19 ¶ Y subieron los de Zif a decir a Saúl en Gabaa: ¿No está David escondido en nuestra tierra en las peñas del bosque, en el collado de Haquila (oscuro) que está a la mano derecha del desierto?

Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is not David hiding with us in the strong places at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah, south of Jeshimon?

20 P or tanto, rey, desciende ahora presto, según todo el deseo de tu alma, y nosotros lo entregaremos en la mano del rey.

Now come, O king, as you desire to come. And we will give David into the king’s hand.”

21 Y Saúl dijo: Benditos seáis vosotros del SEÑOR, que habéis tenido compasión de mí.

Saul said, “May the Lord bring good to you. For you have had pity on me.

22 I d, pues, ahora, apercibid aún, considerad y ved su lugar donde tiene el pie, y quién lo haya visto allí; porque se me ha dicho que él es en gran manera prudente.

Go and make sure. See where he is, and who has seen him there. For I am told that he is very good at fooling people.

23 C onsiderad, pues, y ved todos los escondrijos donde se oculta, y volved a mí con la certidumbre, y yo iré con vosotros; que si él estuviere en la tierra, yo le buscaré con todos los millares de Judá.

Look and learn about all his hiding places, and return to me with news that is sure. Then I will go with you. If he is in the land, I will find him among all the thousands of Judah.”

24 Y ellos se levantaron, y se fueron a Zif delante de Saúl. Mas David y sus varones estaban en el desierto de Maón, en la llanura que está a la diestra del desierto.

Then they got up and went to Ziph before Saul. Now David and his men were in the desert of Maon, in the Arabah, south of Jeshimon.

25 Y partió Saúl con sus varones a buscarlo; pero fue dado aviso a David, y descendió de allí a la peña, y se quedó en el desierto de Maón. Lo cual cuando Saúl oyó, siguió a David al desierto de Maón.

Saul and his men went to look for him, and David was told about it. So he went down to the rock in the desert of Maon.

26 Y Saúl iba por un lado del monte, y David con los suyos por el otro lado del monte; y David se daba prisa para ir delante de Saúl; mas Saúl y los suyos habían encerrado a David y a los suyos para tomarlos.

Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. David was in a hurry to get away from Saul. For Saul and his men were closing in upon David and his men to take them.

27 E ntonces vino un mensajero a Saúl, diciendo: Ven luego, porque los filisteos han entrado con ímpetu en la tierra.

But a man came with news to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have come into the land by surprise to fight us.”

28 S e volvió, por tanto, Saúl de perseguir a David, y partió contra los filisteos. Por esta causa pusieron a aquel lugar por nombre Sela-hama-lecot (peña de las divisiones).

So Saul returned from going after David, and went against the Philistines. So they called that place the Rock of Getting Away.

29 E ntonces David subió de allí, y habitó en los parajes fuertes en En-gadi.

David went from there and stayed in the strong places of Engedi.
