This letter is from Paul and Timothy. We are servants owned by Jesus Christ. This letter is to all who belong to Christ Jesus who are living in the city of Philippi and to the church leaders and their helpers also.

2 A vocês, graça e paz da parte de Deus nosso Pai e do Senhor Jesus Cristo. Ação de Graças e Oração

May you have loving-favor and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul Gives Thanks For the True Christians

3 A gradeço a meu Deus toda vez que me lembro de vocês.

I thank God for you whenever I think of you.

4 E m todas as minhas orações em favor de vocês, sempre oro com alegria

I always have joy as I pray for all of you.

5 p or causa da cooperação que vocês têm dado ao evangelho, desde o primeiro dia até agora.

It is because you have told others the Good News from the first day you heard it until now.

6 E stou convencido de que aquele que começou boa obra em vocês, vai completá-la até o dia de Cristo Jesus.

I am sure that God Who began the good work in you will keep on working in you until the day Jesus Christ comes again.

7 É justo que eu assim me sinta a respeito de todos vocês, uma vez que os tenho em meu coração, pois, quer nas correntes que me prendem, quer defendendo e confirmando o evangelho, todos vocês participam comigo da graça de Deus.

It is right for me to feel like this about all of you. It is because you are very dear to me. While I was in prison and when I was proving that the Good News is true, you all shared God’s loving-favor with me.

8 D eus é minha testemunha de como tenho saudade de todos vocês, com a profunda afeição de Cristo Jesus.

God knows what I am saying. He knows how much I love you all with a love that comes from Jesus Christ.

9 E sta é a minha oração: Que o amor de vocês aumente cada vez mais em conhecimento e em toda a percepção,

And this is my prayer: I pray that your love will grow more and more. I pray that you will have better understanding and be wise in all things.

10 p ara discernirem o que é melhor, a fim de serem puros e irrepreensíveis até o dia de Cristo,

I pray that you will know what is the very best. I pray that you will be true and without blame until the day Christ comes again.

11 c heios do fruto da justiça, fruto que vem por meio de Jesus Cristo, para glória e louvor de Deus. Os Sofrimentos de Paulo Contribuem para a Expansão do Evangelho

And I pray that you will be filled with the fruits of right living. These come from Jesus Christ, with honor and thanks to God. Paul’s Being in Prison Has Turned Out to Be a Good Thing

12 Q uero que saibam, irmãos, que aquilo que me aconteceu tem, ao contrário, servido para o progresso do evangelho.

Christian brothers, I want you to know that what has happened to me has helped spread the Good News.

13 C omo resultado, tornou-se evidente a toda a guarda do palácio e a todos os demais que estou na prisão por causa de Cristo.

Everyone around here knows why I am in prison. It is because I preached about Jesus Christ. All the soldiers who work for the leader of the country know why I am here.

14 E os irmãos, em sua maioria, motivados no Senhor pela minha prisão, estão anunciando a palavra com maior determinação e destemor.

Because of this, most of my Christian brothers have had their faith in the Lord made stronger. They have more power to preach the Word of God without fear.

15 É verdade que alguns pregam Cristo por inveja e rivalidade, mas outros o fazem de boa vontade.

Some are preaching because they are jealous and want to make trouble. Others are doing it for the right reason.

16 E stes o fazem por amor, sabendo que aqui me encontro para a defesa do evangelho.

These do it because of love. They know that I am put here to prove the Good News is true.

17 A queles pregam Cristo por ambição egoísta, sem sinceridade, pensando que me podem causar sofrimento enquanto estou preso.

The others preach about Christ for what they get out of it. Their hearts are not right. They want to make me suffer while I am in prison.

18 M as, que importa? O importante é que de qualquer forma, seja por motivos falsos ou verdadeiros, Cristo está sendo pregado, e por isso me alegro. De fato, continuarei a alegrar-me,

What difference does it make if they pretend or if they are true? I am happy, yes, and I will keep on being happy that Christ is preached.

19 p ois sei que o que me aconteceu resultará em minha libertação, graças às orações de vocês e ao auxílio do Espírito de Jesus Cristo.

Because of your prayers and the help the Holy Spirit gives me, all of this will turn out for good.

20 A guardo ansiosamente e espero que em nada serei envergonhado. Ao contrário, com toda a determinação de sempre, também agora Cristo será engrandecido em meu corpo, quer pela vida, quer pela morte;

I hope very much that I will have no reason to be ashamed. I hope to honor Christ with my body if it be by my life or by my death. I want to honor Him without fear, now and always.

21 p orque para mim o viver é Cristo e o morrer é lucro.

To me, living means having Christ. To die means that I would have more of Him.

22 C aso continue vivendo no corpo, terei fruto do meu trabalho. E já não sei o que escolher!

If I keep on living here in this body, it means that I can lead more people to Christ. I do not know which is better.

23 E stou pressionado dos dois lados: desejo partir e estar com Cristo, o que é muito melhor;

There is a strong pull from both sides. I have a desire to leave this world to be with Christ, which is much better.

24 c ontudo, é mais necessário, por causa de vocês, que eu permaneça no corpo.

But it is more important for you that I stay.

25 C onvencido disso, sei que vou permanecer e continuar com todos vocês, para o seu progresso e alegria na fé,

I am sure I will live to help you grow and be happy in your faith.

26 a fim de que, pela minha presença, outra vez a exultação de vocês em Cristo Jesus transborde por minha causa.

This will give you reason to give more thanks to Christ Jesus when I come to visit you again. Fight for the Faith

27 N ão importa o que aconteça, exerçam a sua cidadania de maneira digna do evangelho de Cristo, para que assim, quer eu vá e os veja, quer apenas ouça a seu respeito em minha ausência, fique eu sabendo que vocês permanecem firmes num só espírito, lutando unânimes pela fé evangélica,

Live your lives as the Good News of Christ says you should. If I come to you or not, I want to hear that you are standing true as one. I want to hear that you are working together as one, preaching the Good News.

28 s em de forma alguma deixar-se intimidar por aqueles que se opõem a vocês. Para eles isso é sinal de destruição, mas para vocês, de salvação, e isso da parte de Deus;

Do not be afraid of those who hate you. Their hate for you proves they will be destroyed. It proves you have life from God that lasts forever.

29 p ois a vocês foi dado o privilégio de não apenas crer em Cristo, mas também de sofrer por ele,

You are not only to put your trust in Him, but you are to suffer for Him also.

30 j á que estão passando pelo mesmo combate que me viram enfrentar e agora ouvem que ainda enfrento.

You know what the fight is like. Now it is time for you to have a part in it as I have.
